Hey guys here is a link if you need springs for your knives. You will need dimensions... hope this helps www.thespringstore.com/springs-for-knives.html
I know you made the video 9 months ago but the most helpful video I could find thank you so much I fixed my OTF knife just because I saw your video thank you
Remember me? Took the autocrat apart and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt fire and it was tighter on one side and i didnt know so thx for the advice, take care. TSO 4 life.
I have one similar to this with trapezoid plates, no idea which way they’re supposed to go but seems to be working now with the fat part towards the bottom.
I took this knife apart to lube all the internals and it fell apart on me and I figured I’d never get it back together so I saved all the pieces and when I get around to it I’m gonna try putting it back together. Thanks man
Thank you this really helped my brother got me this for my birthday and I didn't release the springs behind the squares I didn't know they went there 😅
If the small springs dont work or are damaged, you can take a really small section of a pen spring and put it in, for some reason my springs were both ruined after 1 day of use, but pen springs are alot sturdier, but its difficult to get the right tension for the knife to lock in place correctly.
Helpful vid, thanks man. I grabbed a couple of those el-cheapo OTFs off of Wish a couple years ago (they make cool letter openers.) The smaller of the two just quit one day--turns out the spring broke. Disassembled, scrounged around, found new spring (in an old toaster, actually). Sharpened, oiled and works like new--maybe a little stronger action now. Your vid here was helpful. So, thank you.
Hey thanks for this I just got one of these out of the spring let loose inside. I took it apart but didn’t quite understand how it was supposed to work and go back together completely. Now they see how it all works hopefully I still have the little springs that go with those tabs if not I will have to maybe come up with something as a replacement spring. OK thanks a lot now I have a chance to fix it.
Thanks! Received one as a gift & really enjoy it as never had an OTF. It jammed after 2-3 wks of daily carry. I was concerned it might fly-open, spring and all, but your video showed me its innards, and it could be fixed. Now, it’ll be a fun fix!👍🇺🇸
If anyone wants a knife like this from a reputable supplier, Perry Knife Works sells them. They don’t have the Benchmade logo on them. You will probably pay a couple of bucks more than you will on Wish, but I like to support vendors I feel like I can trust. Thanks for the great tutorial btw.
I know the little lock plates w the springs(4x) are alot thinner on the Chinese ones,(clones) if you can get thicker plates it be 80% better...for a nail test type test ...
Yeah, having a fun time trying to locate innards for these knives. I'm curious just how much different they really are... but not enough to open up my real deals. Thanks for sharing man!
If you contact a few of the Chinese sellers, some are connected w makers of the Knives and springs and innards can be obtained, Chinese love the American dollar...I recently received a protech copy and I was very impressed by the to aluminum body n layout of knife..the godfather 920....I despise they clone private makers Knives though, there cloning just anything popular over here.m
Thanks for the demo. I was having trouble visualizing how these worked. I do wish the “fake” knives would quit using brand names. The “Lightning” OTF’s are about the same price and quality without the need to try and trick someone. I respect that a lot more than the copycats. I think there is a real market for the inexpensive OTF’s; they are fun and not everyone has a extra $300 laying around.
Hey buddy thanks for that I really appreciate it cuz I had a couple of them and they were apart and I had no idea how to put them back together that video helped me a lot and the springs are hell wouldn't back in that one smaller one but thanks I got it in there I wanted to ask you, I have another blade that I can't well I want to take it apart and put it back together but I don't even know how to take it apart it's one of those old Italian stiletto switchblades you know with the push button and it opens up can you do a video on that if you can beat regards jimmy
Thats a big 10 4 there good buddy! Im extremely blade savy & I knew better then to take any of my double action knives apart, proper care, usage & maintenance & the occasional little shot of WD then wiped clean w/ a paper towel should be sufficient.
Thanks to your video I was able to put my knife back together again.. brilliant. The issue is the reason I took it apart is that the switch/mechanism is so stiff I need two fingers to open it or even a tool. I thought I’d find the issue but I just can’t Sort it. What do you think could cause that? I’ve tried loosening both screws on either side of the spring to no avail
Just a good-to-know FYI about your mention of blue loctite usage. Do not use this on the synthetic/plastic frame otfs. The loctite will eat plastics. I use only on the small screws of ALL metal framed otf knives because of the inevitable loosening on the top plate.
Hmm, definitely sounds like an internal malfunction, like there is something out of place. Have been able to open it and fix it yet? I know I'm late on this comment.
Can anyone tell me what American made otf that Chinese knife copies ? I know it says Benchmade on it but I couldn't find it. Great vid by the way, Coud come in handy 🙂
I need combat trodon spring u know wher I can get Amazon sells ones for ultratech only let me kno thsnks and halos I got on wish are sick no blade play an its definitely d2 or tougher I trade sharpening lightly an it doesn't even scratch im extremely impressed I might get blade testes to see what Rockwell an steel it actually is some of the ones I got like Dirac the blade steel was pretty soft anyway take care bro
Is there anywhere they sell a really good spring and knife replacement for the wish otf knife? I bought it and want to upgrade the spring and blade but don't know where to find those two parts before i take it apart
Have clone benchmade off Amazon couple weeks old not used much started to not open so opened and can't find one of the small screws after opening are there replacement spring
I left a link in the description, you might find springs there. If not look I up on ebay. I have seen replacement springs for otf knives there as well. Good luck!
@@levvy001 I'm referring to the long (main?) spring not the tiny ones if you happen to remember the size of that one. Sorry for not specifying which one. Thanks again
There isn’t a should that I’ve seen disassemble the real benchmade autocrat. Wish they would but I get it. Freaking $450 otf that wouldn’t be covered by benchmade if screwed up.
Well actually I plan on doing an autocrat and a clone comparison video soon where I will open them up. You're right about opening it up and warranty but I think you guys deserve it. So hopefully it will help with a lot of things including taking it apart. Stay tuned man.
I'm not Positive that OTF Tension Springs are all proprietary to the brand of knife , but I have seen tension Springs for sale on eBay. you may want to check there.
I ordered this exact knife from Wish a while back on accident. I ended up selling it because I hated how cheap it felt. For me, it was among the worst cheap/clones I've ever handled. The way the handle flares at the base of the blade makes it very difficult to sharpen the entire blade. I know this, because mine was so extremely DOA (dull on arrival) that I immediately decided to put a good edge on it. And that's how I found out the steel felt really soft to me. It may be that I'm so used to sharpening more premium steels like 20CV & S30V, this blade seemed so squishy in comparison. If it is, in fact, 440C, that's not terrible, unless it has a poor heat treat. This type of knife is great though, for learning how to sharpen, disassemble, & reassemble OTFs cheaply. Looking back, I'd have been better off taking the blade out completely before sharpening. Good video though, man. I'm all about education, & here you do a good job of giving step-by-step instructions on disassembly & explaining the role of the parts. I learned the workings of OTFs just by tinkering with my own, but this video will prevent others from going in blindly. One final note: If you haven't already, check out Vespa knives from ChinaHighEndEDC on DHgate. They provide extra lock springs & main springs with some of their knives. And for the more expensive ones (maybe $88+ I've found), they include a very nice tri-wing bit that works on both genuine & clone tri-wing screws. It's a good large size with knurling, & is now my favorite bit. And Vespa knives are incredible anyway. I got that bit with my Vespa Cypher D2. I'm planning on ordering their version of a Combat Troodon in the near future. One more final final note: If you ever have spring sing, get yourself some fluorinated grease from Amazon & it out on the main spring(s). Works like a charm & protects from corrosion.
Hey man! Thanks, yes I have checked out China hi end edc and vespa is on my list. They have a great line of knives I'm looking into. I agree about this particular knife. Although mine arrived sharp enough and hard enough for 440 of any kind. It performs and sharpens like 440c. It is definitely a bit junky. I edited it all out but I kinda went over the details and figured "eff it" keep it short. Lol. Managed to get 39 mins down to 17. 🤣
Actually blade play is unavoidable, unless it's a certain brand of OTF that costs a couple grand. Now the amount of blade play varies amongst all knives even of the same company. Not that you couldn't maybe come up with your own mod to fix or minimize. Good luck.
@@levvy001 when I put it back together the springs weren't fully centered in the indent plates but the blade still functions properly unless I overtighten the screw on the deploy/retract switch. Then it won't come out. Could the misalignment of the springs on the plates be causing a little blade play?
You wouldn't happen to know the size of those little strings in that knife do you. Thanks for your video as it was very helpful and once I finally got a back to get there one of those Springs went flying lol
I made a short but idk if it loaded under these comments or not. Sorry not too tech savvy. I usually only watch vids and thats not even very often. Any help is appreciated
Make sure you incremently tighten the screws a little at a time in a star pattern middle of handle across and work your way out . Also are sure spring is intact
Thankyou for the video. Mine came today not working straight out of the packing. So naturally i took it to bits and those 2 springs took off. After 1 hour I eventually found them both surprisingly far from my desk but had no idea where they had popped from. After watching your video I had no problem putting it back together and it worked ok. Sadly this only highlighted how poorly made the knife was, I certainly recommend no one waste there money on a Wish.com rubbish copy.
