This is an amazing video! I'm thinking of getting a chicken to(hatching it from an egg), but for your kids, I would prefer that they don't pick them up...just pet them because in all of you videos, I noticed that all of the chickens they hold look uncomfortable and don't force them into you arms .

please can you tell me the necessary of vitamin D3 vitamin B12 for chicken?
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 9 лет назад
Hi, I just replied to your earlier question, I hope you will get it. My mom used to add mixture of vitamins to help boost chicks immune system after transportation. Vitamin D3 and B12 is what I had in my home at the time of their arrival. Vitamin D3 is good for bones and B12 for nervous system. Keep in mind this is not mandatory.

Do you think I would be safe to put the chicks outside during day after they are 4 weeks old? I'm in -5 zone. So far they've stayed in my house with a heat lamp.
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 9 лет назад
Christopher M Hi Christopher, thank you for your question. Not knowing area in which you live its hard to tell. At this age chicks are still small and they make a easy prey for many different animals, including squirrels and ravens. At this age I allow my chicks out in our yard but only under supervision and only for about an hour.
@namepleaseenteraname3namec267
@namepleaseenteraname3namec267 7 лет назад
What age should you stop using the heat lamp for the chicks?
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 7 лет назад
Hi Dino, depending on the outdoor temperature you could stop using heat lamp as early as 4- 5 weeks. I live in California, temperatures here are usually high so timing may be different here that it would be on East Coast. Bottom line, if outdoor temperatures are above 65' you could stop using heating lamp after 5th week. I hope this helps. :)

I don't have a backyard like yours. I have 2 chicks Will they grow normally indoors ?
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 7 лет назад
Hi Vasudev, chickens do need outdoors however many today never see the sunlight their whole life. Even indoors, chickens will grow but by nature chickens are outdoor animals. I am sure you are taking a great care of yours and if you have to keep them enclosed, please make sure enclosure is large enough. Best of luck, Vlada
@vasudevtr520
@vasudevtr520 7 лет назад
Can you say how many hours of sunlight should chickens be exposed to per day ? Also I am worried, since they are young they might fall prey to crows if I let them outside . ( There are lots of crows in my locality )
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 7 лет назад
To be honest with you I don't have the answer to how many hours of sun light chickens might need. Mine are outdoor, in shady area, all day long. Regarding the crows, please do be careful as crows will kill young chicken for food.

Hi, we had chicks for the past 3-4 years but last year my brother`s hen died of an unknown illness. Then a month later mine was killed by a hawk or fox. Do you think its worth getting chicks again. We have them as companions for our horses when one is sick and also for eggs. We let them roam. Just felt like asking.
@57Vlada
@57Vlada 8 лет назад
+PaintedEqustrian13 I lost some chickens in past too...But as soon as I did I would get a new batch. Chicks grow fast...:)
@takenotesresearchalloption8508
Hawks etc. think twice about bothering a large chicken like Jersey giants ... just a suggestion ... hatcheries have them cheap and they are hardy birds
