Being new to this, around 10 months into it, we've been purchasing our chicks at the feed store but now.... Now we have a roo! This too is as busy as a young teenager boy wants to be. We just hatched our first chick. She (he, maybe) is just approximatel;y 20 hours old. I've got it in the play-pen in my office. I hold it often but let it in the pen to be alone as well. (Got to work eventually!) It's precious. At first it was a bit scared of a monster like us humans but now runs to our open palm. Love the idea of the egg mixture/chick feed. I'll be making that soon for it as she still hasn't eaten or drank anything as they sometimes won't so soon to hatching, to my understanding. Great video's thank you for sharing.
someone said to me that you can use human hair is deterrent they say fox's do not like the smell of human hair not sure if this works or how true it is i think it's free from the your local hair dressers shop worth try for the chickens .
I got a question all close to the same size but one the oldest is I say 4-5 the others 3 or 4 then the smallest one is 3 I Wana say is that ok to be together with 3 different sizes the smallest as been acting like the boss and trying to push them around so idk if it’s ok to habe a little one with biger size
Hi Shiann, different kind and different size chicks can be mixed while they are younger. However it is the best to keep same age chicks together when possible. Since yours are doing well I would suggest you let them stay together.

#1 I would say medicated or non-medicated chick feed. #2 Or, you can just let them scratch around eat bugs and give them old food scraps. They love it! #2 is healthiest. :) If you are wondering... I've grown chickens since I was 7. So...I have 4 years of experience. :) I have 4 chickens 2 of them are 3 days old and the others are 1 year olds. I gave the chicks from another lovely hen to ma chickens, "Scratch" and "Tiny". Now they have new mommas. ;)
I am not sure what could be the problem. Chicks need warmth, food and water for beginning...Did you have a chance to watch out video about Week 1. taking care of chickens? I suggest you do, it might help.
Hi, after doing this video I decided to enclose top as well to protect them from crows, hawks and other predators. So I would suggest you do the same. :)

AsianAngler you can grab their legs and put them upside down, make sure it is short and quick to prevent too much stress. If it tries to fly up, its a rooster, if it stays, its a hen. You can usually trust this method
AsianAngler this method could cause harm if you dont know what to do. i would suggest looking up some methods for you on google, that are safer and much more straightforward. it was only a suggestion that had worked for me.
