While it is tempting to say that Julia got it easy with getting the black knight halberd I think she more than evened out the difficulty for herself. -Never kindled ANY bonfires for more estus -Never resorted her humanity to summon an NPC for help - Never upgraded her pyromancy flame and barely used it despite starting as a pyromancer - She never did any grinding - 2 handed her weapon the whole time, so almost never used a shield. - Didn't restore Firelink Shrine bonfire after it went out. - Didn't use the necklace for the Manus fight - Never opened the Sif shortcut All in all I think Julia did a fantastic job given all of that. Such a fun playthrough! Never seen a Dark Souls like this ever before.
The last episode of Granny Souls has a bad pun in the title, the camera died, and Julia defeated the difficult boss while Jacob was distracted. What an on-brand stream!
My older brother plays a lot of video games. Like, a lot of them. Today, after I told him about this playthrough, he called Julia “a true gamer.” This is official.
How fitting that I started this series at the beginning of this school year and finished it right as the year was ending. I appreciate you all for getting me through these rough semesters while I work through a multitude of studio projects and essays.
@@Martyr9991 It's still about a 1 in 5 supposedly, but I've always had the worst luck dropping the halberd. I'm pretty sure in my first playthough it took me upwards of 20 kills to actually see one.
Julia's total disregard for healing has baffled me this entire playthrough. Right up to the end. She is somehow still alive with nothing left in her health bar and instead of healing, what does she do? Run toward the boss. 🙃🤯
Julia giving moment to moment commentary while still being in tune enough with what’s happening around her to comment on what Jacob is doing, and still playing nearly perfectly, is again. Absolutely wild.
I’m pretty sure the age of dark is the age of man. Humanity is dark. The age of fire was the age of gods, not man. That’s why Gwyn wanted it to continue, to maintain his power and not allow man to rise up to rule
What a magnificent playthrough. Thanks, guys. Fun Fact: Julia playing this game is what got me to finally come back to it and finish a playthrough after years of waffling (previously, Bloodborne was my only cleared Souls game). Now I'm most of the way through DS2, and excited to keep going. Granny really clowned 'em. Clowned 'em hard. All hail.
This is a random Khaz appreciation comment: We appreciate you Khaz and hope you have a baller day/night/afternoon/twilight/dusk/dawn/limbo between dimensions.
love how the cam goes out right after jacob said "byyyye" lol maybe fitting given the whole "age of Dark" thing tho sad 1:04:00 i can phil it collins in the air tonight is excellent lol I loved this series, would be very very excited to see julia play bloodborne or other souls type game sometime!!
Gosh I can't believe I have been watching this stream for over a year. Its a bit sad to see it go, but I look forward to the next series. Thanks for giving me something to listen to while I draw!
Watching the wheels turn in Jacob's head before he started singing in the best French accent I've ever heard was such a delight. These streams make my whole day. Thank you for the always-excellent content!
Congratulations to Julia on finishing this epic journey. And thank you to Julia and Jacob for sharing all of it with us. And thank you, Khaz, for posting the videos to the youtube channel.
I'm truly blown away by Julia's skill in this game. I hope she plays other DS games on stream because this was so fun! congrats Julia and Granny on a rousing victory!
If Julia plays another souls game, I feel like her next character should be Grampy Smith. Or maybe Grampy Pappy. Or maybe Pappy... What other sort of fruit has lots of varietals? Pears? Pappy Bosch? Or maybe Pappy Cutie. Like the oranges.
@50:20 Dang, I remembered being surprised when Jacob read my comment about Gough out loud but my live audio missed that lil chuckle. Tfw senpai notices you, lol 😆
If anime has taught me anything, it's that "friend necessary for win" but that, because Jacob is a adult with a happy home life, nobody will listen to him
I literally hopped on the channel because I was looking for a longform video to nap to and the fact that this is only like nine minutes old when I’m watching it really says a lot about how will I know when these are going to be uploaded
I have loved watching this series so much. It has been such a delightful treat over the last 9 months that always brightened my days (which often were in great need of brightening). Thanks for playing and sharing!
Hey. ... ... I really want to watch Souls-series boss-fights narrated like twentieth-century baseball. Like, remember that announcer from Legend of Korra? Have whoever played that guy do color-commentary on Dark Souls.
@@alienbastard55 Actually it's joyeux anniversaire but its more or less the same thing, bon anniversaire is what u wish the person when talking but it doesn't have enough syllables for the song so that's why
@@D1E9B9B9I2E I was thinking of another song, the one that goes "bon anniversaire, les voeux les plus sincères" but yeah it is joyeux anniversaire in the regular birthday song
both my french teacher who grew up in the us but studied in france and my french teacher who was born in canada but lived in france since she was very small and well into her adulthood sing joyeux anniversaire when they're doing it to the tune of happy birthday, but my french french teacher also sings the bon anniversaire song that's it's own thing, like with more lyrics than just bon anniversaire
Me at the end of that boss battle: Just BAP him once! BAP! He'll go down! BAP! :D wonderful playthrough, I now consider myself a Dark Souls Master by watching.
Truly the Chosen Undead. Jacob, thank you. Julia, I am beyond impressed and in awe of your progress. You've come a long long way from getting so frustrated you spontaneously started playing guitar. Thank you so much
Hey, so to me, it sounds like there's some kind of audio compressor (A.K.A. dynamics compression) active. You can hear it in the beginning when you're adjusting the volume levels and the quiet ambient background noise gets amplified to a white noise-like hiss, then pumps back down whenever you talk; the audio is being squished so the difference between the loudest and quietest (the dynamic range) is being compressed, and then the overall volume is being raised to compensate (makeup gain). It can be a useful tool, but sounds quite bad if the settings are wrong. Given that you guys use OBS, it wouldn't surprise me if it decided to enable a compressor effect on it's own if you've updated recently, or something like that. It'd certainly be in line with stories that I've heard from people about it in the past.
I've had to do some audio adjusting in post to bring up the audio to YT levels, I'm still finding the best settings to avoid the problems you mention. -Khaztaroth
@@SecretSleepoverSociety Don't worry, you did a great job, and those problems are only really noticeable for a couple of minutes until Jacob adjusts the volume again. I had assumed that was from the original recording and didn't realize you'd already done a bit of post-production to the audio to correct issues. Sorry, didn't mean to second-guess your work, as it's certainly appreciated.
No worries, It's definitely something that I wanna keep in mind. I hadn't messed with audio until recently since people started pointing out that our videos were noticeably quieter than the midroll ads that youtube serves, so to avoid people getting blasted I gotta figure this out. I can tell from your comment that you know this stuff so I appreciate the feedback. -Khaztaroth
@@SecretSleepoverSociety I did notice that the volume for this video is a lot better than past vods, thanks for the hard work figuring it out, really appreciate all you do and trying to incorporate feedback!
So sure, Julia is using the BLH, but she also isn't kindling any bonfires so going into most fights with 5 estus xD That's some unintentional hardmode shit :p
Came to this playthrough a year later and it's such a fun time watching Julia conquer her FromSoft fears, and also hear how excited Jacob is for Elden Ring, knowing that he ends up beating the game and loving it. I dunno if Bloodborne is ever coming out of console hell, but if it ever does, I hope Julia plays it through like she's been wanting to. All hail the Dark Lord Granny!
Incorrect. Both work under the supposition that an eventual age of dark is practically inevitable and that there have been many ages of light and dark before. Ringed city takes place in the same timeline as 2 and at the end of time; 3 in general takes place either at the end of the final age of light or just prior to the last kindling.
Watching this series has been a pleasure and Julia is such a natural! beats the game with an impecible pace but also stuggled more with the Moonlight than many of the later game bosses.
I would sincerely like to see a full stream of Jacob speedrunning Dark Souls, I love the last part of this vod where he tries to get as far as possible in NG+. Maybe J+J could take turns after each death so it's not as stressful for one person. I'd have such a great time watching that lol
HOLY SHIT, THESE STREAMS WERE SO, SO GOOD! Thank you, Julia and Jacob, for streaming these, and thank you, Khaz, for editing them and putting them up! I love watching these!
