Better yet, you're told that the information you send them only includes the "necessary" information (aka to keep the secrecy of the Little Guy existing) So you get a pamphlet like "cracks in your wall? Leave out some cheesecake every night" as if that's normal anti-termite advice. You have to wonder what the [obedient] callers are assuming about these pamphlets. We know from experience one guy gets a Bogart because he refused to leave out some cheese for the Common Hobb, but of the people that actually follow instructions what are they thinking?? Are they like "...maybe termites have dairy allergies?" and just scratching their heads in puzzlement? Lmao

Oh! Just in case anyone was worried, I went ahead and checked and there isn’t any AI art in the game! The dev is against utilising stuff like that/believes it to be unethical. The little joke about the bug spray made me a *little* worried so I went to check. Very glad I did because this definitely makes me more likely to grab the game when I’m able to.

warning! the image they show as a bed bug, IS NOT a bed bug. that is a shield bug (Pentatomidae) or more commonly known as a stink bug. it can be very important to know how to actually identify real bed bugs, they can be a real issue in homes.

Seriously folks, make sure you have at least one carbon monoxide detector, especially if you're in a home. I almost died a few years ago because I had an ancient heater giving off CO. My alarm went off and my dumb butt thought it was malfunctioning so I threw it out. Then I almost asphyxiated! So don't be like me!

@@kemmli I wouldn't say that! My mom came over and said she smelt something hot or burning. I didn't smell it at all, but she brought it up again the next day and we called the public service. A person came over and tested the air and had to turn off my gas because the CO levels were so high. I like to think I never passed out because my old house had equally old windows and the poor insulation probably vented out enough for me to have been okay.

The Fae in this game give a weird vibe of like, mildly common information? Like, you can totally look up anything you're curious about nowadays, but back in the 90s, internet was either so slow or non-existent that you couldn't just search up something that wasn't in an encyclopedia. So it makes sense that these doctors and cops (careers with job training and therefore a reliable dissertation of information) will know about the fae while also not wanting to directly talk about them due to the amount of fae that react violently to being mentioned. So it's this weird give and take of like, the Fae are _technically_ common information, but people are either so unwilling to notice or too engrossed in other things to care, so it takes an expert in a field mentioning something for it to come up. Maybe if this universe took place about a decade later, there would be more of a conspiracy effort to keep the fae metaphorically locked away, whereas in the 90s it's super easy for the information to sorta fester and die somewhere in the chain of communication. TL:DR - I think Fae are common knowledge, but most people just willfully ignore them, akin to vaccine disbelief or tax rules

I'd always understood Pookah (or pucca) to just be a literal translation of the world goblin and had no idea they were this specific type of animal thing. That being said the word "goblin" is much like the word "fairy" in that it's often just an encompassing umbrella term for "anything not human".

I remembered the Spiderwick version so well because it said they often took the form a black dog and there was this neighbor I had who had a larger black poodle and I would just think "It's a golbin dog!" I think it especially stuck with me because there was a story attached about this kid who was getting bullied and how the pookah (as a black dog) protected him and walked him home but didn't do anything beyond that. I always thought that was cool. Technically I think the spiderwick guide was about fairies, goblins and trolls, but the word fairy stuck with me because of that michevious but sometimes harmless kind of creature and i liked that. It's interesting and I feel like this game definitely nailed that idea.

I'm really facinated by the ways this game strikes me of having themes around mental illness? A lot of the more supernatural elements remind me of the ways some mental illness symptoms can feel inscrutible to the person experiencing them. Sure, I know *now* that my paranioa and insomnia are linked, but when I started experiencing it, it could have been Night Gnomes! It felt just as possible. I resonate with others too: false beets, the hoard ect. Really curious about if A) that was intended or B) if I dug more into the extra lore on this game, I would find more stuff about this. Just a cool thing I noticed :D Rad game

That may have more to do with the actual fae myths and folklore that inspired this game than the game itself. Mental illness and neurodivergence have often been linked to supernatural elements in such stories.

The Bed Hag is a classic as well - sleep paralysis has had many explanations over the years and in different places. What you see when you're hallucinating depends on the cultural ideas you have, which is why modern people (especially in the US) often see aliens. Some cultures see ghosts, some see demons, and some have Hags.

The teeth hurt thing was 100% supposed to be a clue about the dental work thing, the detail too completely aligns with the info in the entry. (Nothing on the call specified the crying was a teething, preverbal baby, and he could know the kid's teeth hurt because the kid had previously said so...)

I think it was a teething baby, but I think it was put in as foreshadowing if you get it wrong. I haven't played it or seen any other playthroughs yet, but I've got a feeling he'd call you back and you find out they ripped out his teeth with bridges or fillings and now *he's* crying about teeth pain

Since watching other gameplays of yhis, I alwyas thought the Weird caller was some strange entinity making weird calls, and that the final call was someone walking in on it at their house and being turned into a mouse! But it just being an actual prank caller that the company gets (especially paired with Carol's message), makes so much more sense lol

In addition to being interrupted by phone calls, the other most realest customer service thing is having to deal with people who already called in and got bad info from someone else. (IRL this is not often the individual employee's fault, but instead lack of training, or lack of time to properly serve a customer, driven by corporate/management mandates to keep call times down rather than pay attention to quality.)

Sorry but you were wrong, it's memory wisp. I played this game and put mirror sprite initially and it came back incorrect. On a 2nd playthrough I understood why: He's talking about not being able to "see" her face in his mind's eye, if she was in front of him right now without a face he'd be saying "her face is gone" rather than focusing on the fact he can't "see" it. He'd also probably be more scared and shocked about it rather than sad and despairing because it would be an immediate emergency.

A lot of people complain that the fae feast call is too ambiguous or hard to figure out, but here I am happy they got it wrong because the consequence call is one of the best ones in the game....
