I removed the resonators on my R/T Challenger & weighed them...19 lbs. each. And yes, the resonators are the mufflers all the way in the back. Some people call the mid muffler a resonator.
Thanks Racer X! I actually am not saving weight, but am changing out the seats in my 14 rt to heated/ventilated ones and didn't know what tools I needed to accomplish this. Rock on!
Most people don't consider the fact that the SRT seats weigh more than the cloth ones do in lesser trims. I've thought about removing the back ones because they never get used, and will take every bit of savings I can get. Is why I'm getting rid of the American racing 22s that were on when I purchased it, and am replacing them with 17" racestar drag stars wrapped in either SS or R sticky mickey drag radials. I haven't decided which ones I want to go with yet, but am leaning towards the street/strips though. Reducing 5" on the rims alone will save me some decent weight, and is another issue that people don't think about much. Unfortunately as heavy as our big beautiful pigs are, this is what we have to consider and is why I got rid of the stock pipes on it as well. Those huge & heavy suitcase style resonators had to go, and replaced everything from the cat's back. We went a real simple aftermarket setup with SLP loudmouths 1s, and are super light because there's not much to them. They basically consist of open chamber racing bullets on 3", and flow so much better than stock. A lot of guys are straight piping their Mopars and consider that myself, but these are better because of the increased diameter and sound incredible together with it's 6.1 hemi. I've got 295s on the 22s and will be going 315s on the racestars, so that should really give it some decent traction and finally be able to hook em up
RacerX Look at the difference between the Durango SRT and charger scat pack. They have the same transmission, same engine, the Durango is over 800 LBS heavier less aerodynamic ect. The 0 to 60 and quarter mile are 2/10 of a second different When you look at vehicles with similar applications it’s typically 300 to 500 LBS for .1 seconds at the dragstrip. You need to tell people the truth on how little this matters because the gears are the exact same shift points are the exact same and everything is the exact same whether you have 4 people in the car (600lbs of extra passengers) or just by urself
RacerX that would be a great video putting three extra people in your vehicle and doing a drag time then just you doing a drag time. You could show how a few hundred pounds makes no difference with the same application it’s a way ricers use to market them. Nissan GTR weighs 3910 pounds without any extras and it’s the fourth best track car ever made. Weight has very little to do with the track car it’s how you place everything. Dodge is made to feel like a more heavy muscle car and the weight is up higher so if you take some weight away from down lower it will only make it more top-heavy. Again just want to be informative but you should do another video about how Subaru is a well-known LGBT vehicle that from the 1960s to15 years ago no one drove at them until high school punks who didn’t understand it was part of the LGBT movement decided it would be cool to have a brand no one else has even though it’s fastest car is slower than a Kia stinger. Subaru is one of the Brands that markets themselves as a track car but is one of the slowest brands of track cars and never gets above 70th place on any professional driver track record and even eight dodge charger and challenger usually gets in the 60th Place and their not made for the track.
RacerX I hope you take my advice for that next video and everything is out of respect and sharing info but now that you bought a 2.5L “sports car” you should name your channel Ricer X I don’t know where people got the 100lbs is .1 sec on every single car out there if that was true then Why does anyone who does research and test runs prove them wrong not to mention there’s so many different factors and applications. If that were true you could prove it wrong on so many things from charger, challenger, Durango, ram, Journey all those different applications with the same engine and transmission prove weight matters very little. The only reason that 100 LBS .1 sec caught on is because it’s such an easy conversion. It’s so easy it’s obviously not correct
RacerX The charger/challenger SRT 392 weighs over 200 LBS more than the scat pack and with the same engine and transmission it’s actually faster. There are so many other factors and weight has very little to do with it. In fact way over the rear tires could actually help it get more traction If that doesn’t prove it doesn’t matter I don’t know what would and you should make a video on cars like that with the similar engine but the heavier one is typically faster because of whatever they did to improve its performance even though it’s the same engine, HP, and transmission
If I wanted a lighter car, I would have bought one. The Challenger offers neck snap speed with a larger cab, a more comfortable smooth ride, usable backseat, and a hefty trunk. I was cramped in the mustang and felt every bump I ran over on the road. You could barely get golf clubs or more than two suitcases in the trunk. Challenger is in a class of its own and I love mine zoom zoom.
It's funny that you mention the fuel level and always keep it about a 1/4 full, which is another thing that people don't consider like you said. I'm also wanting to replace the heavy battery with an arc angel, and amazes how much lighter they are than stock. Even looked into speedcore for the carbon fiber replacement parts to lighten it up, but need to call for pricing. Which means that they are going to be expensive, but you got to pay if you want to play
I pull the anti-sway bar out, for drag race weekends. Helps with weight transfer and its weight off front of the car. At least 20 lb, I'm surprised you didn't mention it. It's easier than bumper supports and it costs nothing. 6 bolts
RacerX I recently as of last week did the muffler delete but I’m not quite thrilled about it , so I’m thinkn of possibly installing a cat back exhaust later on down the road . Cheers

Demon Performance also makes a 2-piece direct replacement rotor for the rear to replace the factory 1-piece(For all Hellcats & 392 cars)...Not a cheap mod, but they're super high quality & reducing unsprung weight is GOOD ...I think I'm gonna look at the light weight battery, Demon Perf rear rotors, Speedlogix bumper supports and pull seats to get my girl down to a more advantageous fighting trim👍
I'm running Vision 4.5 x 17 with MT front runners, total weight 32 lb each. That's almost 9 lb lighter than the Racestar with M&H front runner but the Race Stars definitely look better. Here are a few more small weight reductions. Floor mats 5 lb, windshield wipers 4 lb, owners manual 2 lb, sway bar 16 lb for a total weight reduction of .025 seconds. Thanks for the good video.
I have that rear seat delete kit for sale! I just bought my 2020 scat pack and it came with it. So I pulled it out and bought seats for the back. $450 shipped.
I have heard the floor pans on these cars are really thicc and that is where lot of the weight comes in. People have removed the floor pans for lighter ones. Course this would changed the crast test rating

Idk if you said it but Take into consideration that getting lighter wheels and tires is unsprung weight, meaning if you saved 40lb in actual weight then that translates to 80lbs unsprung weight lost... which makes a noticeable difference
Oh, for a 392, put a 25% underdrive crank pulley on. Much lighter than stock. Also, a Mishimoto radiator and complete silicone coolant hoses are lighter as a whole than stock components. Although the extra half gallon of coolant capacity in the radiator will offset about 4 pounds.
I recently took my aftermarket subwoofer and amp out of my trunk. All the seats out and gutted the trunk. Also have no cats, resonators, or mufflers. I have the srt8 core so whatever weight comes with heated seats and adaptive suspension... I dont have that. Havnt weighed the car but the car got loose around 40 mph when i was shifting into 3rd with the barton. Got loose with 315 tires. The heaviest things ive gotta say is the passenger seat and that subwoofer...the subwoofer was stupid heavy lol. So heavy that my tires dont rub anymore lol. I plan on getting racing seats, rear seat delete, and carbon fiber hood and trunk. That should put me in a nice spot. Especially once i put the procharger on
Honestly, I would probably start with a base model shell if I was to build a track car... Mercedes aluminum subframes also! And some suspension components. Rest of stuff mentioned makes sense. Then you gain a good bit back with the cage... Which you can then save by doing composite doors (huge change on a challenger.) Electric P/S. Gotta be more but you hit the stuff available for street cars

6 parallel sets of 4 in series of 18650 lithium ion batteries is more than enough to replace a lead acid battery and weighs about 2.4lbs plus maybe 1/2 a pound in wire, connectors and a housing.
I’ve removed the entire stock exhaust from my R/T and placed a full Corsa Exhaust on it. It’s definitely lighter. But I’ve noticed I’m braking a bit harder now, cause I just don’t realize how fast I’m driving through town.
it will be nice to understand it is better to make it lighter in a front or back ? because a lot of weight is in front, if you loose wight at the back it maybe cant give good result ? and what will happen with timings if you put sand bags in back ?
Honestly when I get my RT (It’s base don’t judge me I just want a V8) I just want to have better acceleration so it can be more fun on the street. I’m not a track guy and I’m not a reckless street racer… I just want to have as most fun as I can when I get mines. Everyone is welcome to pitch in and give me tips if you have any. ❤️💯
I did a mid muffler delete on my 2020 dodge challenger scat pack and I lost a lot of torque. It was a big waste of money and I had them weld a 2.75 inch pipe on there with the proper bends And was a big waste of money. I ended up taking the whole exhaust off and getting a Borla s type cat back exhaust system And that brought my torque back up. And the sound of a mid muffler delete sounds really crappy in my opinion. The Borla s type Makes it sound like an old school muscle car with headers
Dodge should have made a mid engine 2 seater to compete with the corvette and or the Ford GT with a supercharged 6.2 for the corvette and a twin turbo 426 for the Ford GT.
Yeah they are awesome, and amazes me how much lighter they are. Whenever the one in my Challenger goes, I will be replacing it with an arc and will take all of the savings that I can get with as heavy as our big beautiful pigs are
@@snek9353 Most of us are building drag cars, so the dead wt does matter and not so much for turning. That's not what these cars are designed for to begin with, and is why Dodge produced the Viper
@@lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374 That's fair but you still need traction so weight distribution still matters. And these cars will turn, and turn well if modded for it. That you don't doesn't apply to everyone. Nothing wrong with a lighter battery, but I'd prioritize things like the front bumper support.

I have awd and having a tough time finding lgt wheels and tires. im 4500 pounds with me in it and i want to get to 4100. oh and i want to keep interior. i will do front seats.
Do they make lightweight Flywheel and Clutch setups for the Manual cars? I have driven more then one car with one with one, but you lose some driveability on the street, but I think there could be gains on the Road Course, and possibly the Strip.
Have you done the weight removal with all the seats and tire? Was it worth it.? Noticeable? Also. Can the bumper supports be removed without a replacement?
I just want to add a couple comments. Gasoline only weighs about 6 pounds per gallon. Water is much heavier at 8.4 pounds per gallon. You still lose weight but not as much as you might expect by reducing fuel. As stated in the video, make sure you have enough fuel. My father used to make that mistake and would run out of fuel at the end of the quarter mile because all the fuel sloshed to the back of the tank. Another comment I have has to do with brakes. If you replace the brakes with lighter ones, stopping becomes more difficult as the rotors heat up. If you like doing spirited driving on winding roads, I wouldn't recommend reducing weight by replacing the original equipment with lighter ones. Finally, replacing the rear tires with shorter tires can also be helpful. Not only do you lose weight, you effectively change the gear ratio because it takes more revolutions for the shorter tires to cover a given distance. If you replace the 305/70r20 you find on a widebody and replace them with 315/70r17, you change the effective gear ratio from 3.09 to 3.41 in a Scat Pack. I used the Scat Pack as an example because some Hellcats and R/Ts use a 2.62 gear. The effect is the same no matter which gear set you have. I used numbers to put things in contest. The effective ratio with a 2.62 gear would become effectively a 2.90 gear.
Brakes - No not necessarily 2 piece rotors with aluminum hats can be both lighter and better braking. Tires - Shorter is a crutch to make up for high ratio and low power. Otherwise with decent ratio and power the lack of traction is a much bigger issue.
@snek - Although you are correct with the brakes, what you're suggesting is expensive. Most drag cars generally use smaller brakes. For example, the Dodge Demon uses smaller versions of the brakes smaller disc brakes than Hellcat. When it comes to tires it depends on the car. For example, a Mustang doesn't make much low end torque. However, they will outperform s Hemi at higher RPM assuming they are both similarly equipped. It doesn't mean the Mustang lacks anything. Ford uses a different design. At the dragstrip the Scat Pack will get the jump on the Mustang because of Hemi's higher torque. At the end of the dragstrip, it becomes more of a drivers race with the Mustang trapping higher.

Firefighter_ 392 I would suggest go to the manufacturer website and locate the weight of the respective wheels you are thinking about for comparison. Centrifugal force and unstrung weight is a big factor with wheel size. A long time ago, to make a point, a racer buddy tied a big washer to the end of a string and swung it in a circle down by his side. The longer the string he let out represented the bigger wheel, and shorter string represents smaller wheels. Once the weight is moving, it took more effort to keep the longer string moving in a big circle than a smaller circle. Same guy put one hole in the bottom of a cup with water, and then a second hole in the cup to illustrate the benefits of dual exhaust over single exhaust....Hope that made sense.
