My set! I have them in the bag since January and I love them. Two things, however... I do feel that the CBs are a touch "harsher" than the MBs and sort of semi-regret not having gone the full MB way. And the finish on the clubs is a bit "fragile"... The sole of my 9i (which I do use a lot, many par 3s in that range) starts to almost show the steel behind the chrome plating. Now, I play almost every second day and we have mats on a number of tees that I think are more abrasive than turf. Still, great irons and great price too. I've found that heely contacts are barely punished at all (until you're just so heely that it's an unmentionable; that is) and thin contacts are doing just fine. High on the face contacts loose a good bit of distance and toe strikes are the worse.
thanks for that! I always used blades and was thinking of getting this combo but probably wont since I was wondering if the feel is the same. Since you said the CB's are a bit 'harsher' I will go with full MB's. very helpful review!
S20C is the Japanese name for the 1020 steel... The softest of the series. Then the 1025 is a bit harder (well, that's marginal) and finally you have 1030 (corresponding the S25C and S30C). So the steel is the same family as on the Mizuno blades (or most of the forged blades in the world, really), possibly a touch softer even. Now the geometry, the layer of copper, the forging process may play a role as well, but it's the same family for starters.
@@AskGolfNut I'm not totally sure, not having played them, but DT4 is a "stainless steel", not a carbon steel like the 10XX or SXXC series, so theoretically it will be not as soft (elastic) and possibly it might be harder to forge it to good results. It's fairly much an unknown as it's not something you see often in golf clubs.

Glad to watch this review. I've been playing the Takomo 201 irons this season and swapping between them and my PXG 0311 Gen3 P irons. Same steel on the 201 as on the ones you hit. Totally agree that they feel great. With the cavity backs I get a bit more penetrating ball flight compared to my hollow PXGs. I really appreciate the section of the video where you explored what swing speed can play the 301 combo along with the in depth testing on forgiveness. I'm low 80 mph on my 7 iron and worry about gapping getting too bunched up down low and too big a gap between longest iron and first hybrid. Would love to see that gapping experiment done with your reviews going forward. Also second the request mentioned in the comments already about comparison to Mizuno Pro 223. I'm curious how much, if any, additional distance the micro slot gives on the 7 iron. From your 223 review it seems that it's more about forgiveness than distance. I found a gently used set of Pro 223's at a great price with same shaft I use and it's quite tempting.
I answered my question regarding the Pro 223 irons during a practice session at the local PGA Superstore. Compared to my Takomo 201 7 iron, I'm getting consistently 6 to 7 additional yards of carry and a tighter front to back dispersion indoors. Shafts were Project X LZ 6.0 in both irons. The Takomo measured at 31.5 degrees of loft and the Mizuno at 31.0. I did get a few shots on the Takomo to go as far but had to work much harder to achieve that result. Had to exaggerate shaft lean and max effort with some landing angles dipping just under 45 degrees. The Takomo irons feel softer in the 7 iron where Mizuno goes to a mixed metal and has the micro channel. Going on feel, the Takomo's win out at the top of the bag but if I'm honest about my game, I need a little help from 7 onward. In my head, my 7 iron needs to carry just over 150 yards and the Takomo irons are really 145 to 148 in my bag. It was a bit easier to change launch angle with the Takomo but more consistent and higher decent angle with the Mizuno.
Please compare them to the Mizuno 221 Pro and JPX 923 Tours if you can! If Takomo can deliver a similar product to my door for half the price, that's absolutely insane

Jay, what is your feeling on "forgiveness" between CB and MB in the same lofts (i.e. 7,6,5 irons)? How would you compare feel/looks with the Taks vs the Miz 923 Tours? Takomo is supposed to launch a limited run of copper and black MBs and I am toying with the idea of purchasing them when they release (even though I love my Miz 923 tours).
Can't wait to test the new 245s, will be receiving my review samples very very soon. A more apples for apples comparison would be the 101T irons vs 245. These are firmly in the 241 and JPX923 Tour category 👍🏻
Hi Jay, thanks for the review. I'm currently playing a combo set Mizuno MP4 pw-j8, MP15 j7-4 (though I switch to a hybrid instead of j4). Do you think these Takomos combo would be slightlier more forgiving? Thinking about buying new clubs...Swing speed 78 ish in j7.

I'm hesitating to get a set of T150s but considering also these or the 101T (not in the same category but just to have a distance player set). I'm keen on your insight. thanks
I wouldn't say they is any real difference between the two! The MMC will have additional help out of the toe over that of the 301 and would marginally feel / sound slightly duller maybe with the exception of the MMC due to the multi material part. But it's very neck and neck, if you already have the MP20s I would see the 301s as an upgrade rather a decision if someone was looking at a 2nd hand set of MP20 vs a new set of 301 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Kirk, they ship around the world and everyone has different rates of shipping and also taxes that may or may not apply. I've just checked and currently Takomo offer a 4-PW set customised with a lie adjustment and steel shaft for £728. Assuming that different places around the world will have greater or lesser taxes and shipping costs 👍🏻

Very difficult to say as it very much depends on how you load the shaft in transition.... I would suggest if you can going for an independent custom fitting using the Mizuno Swing DNA Shaft Analyser to see how you load the shaft and which option would work for you best. This way you'll be making a purchase based on some good measurements rather than a best guess 👍🏻👍🏻
I have browsed their website. The consumer direct is great for alot of things. I dont think golf clubs is one of them. Having a retail store to try out a set is a major plus. My fitting is scheduled for the end of the month. Im leaning p7mc/mb. But if i do better with another set, that is what i will get. This isnt an option with consumer direct purchasing. Some kind of store that acts as a middleman where you can try and get fit for these type of brands would be nice.
