Full Review and Off Road Test of the Talaria Sting Electric Dirt Bike. The Talaria looks a lot like a Sur Ron X but we wanted to find out how this E-Dirt Bike compares in the dirt.

I spent a few weeks aboard Ebikezilla’s pre production Talaria Sting and wanted to review the bike to see how it stacks up to a Sur Ron X. This E Moto is not stock has been modified with some upgrades. It’s got a Fox 40 fork, a Fox X2 shock, a 54 tooth rear sprocket, GritShift 2” riser stem and Dunlop MX53 tires.

Great review! I've been thinking about getting a Sur Ron for a while, but just ordered a Talaria instead. Like you say, both are great bikes, but I think the gearbox and slightly larger size (since I'm 6' 2") will make the Talaria a little better for me. Just looking for something to putz around the yard and neighborhood on, and I'm super excited to see what all the fuss is about.

Competition is nice, the surron used to be alone in its category but now they gotta do better in the updated 2023 version, so thats a plus for the consumers. I've always wanted a surron X but if the next version talaria is still better than the updated surron version, I'll go with talaria instead.

Sounds like larger or taller riders would benefit from the Talaria's scale and weight. What I'd like to know is how they each perform in slower conditions or flat paved or hard pack roads going to the dirt riding sites. How do they do in 25mph road driving conditions, that may be less exciting but part of a realistic experience? Tucker is such an amazing rider, it's like a video game watching his ride, and a bit hard for me to relate to, without seeing some paved road shots showing the bike ride by, straight.

Hey Tucker, Ebikezilla offers the Talaria Sting with a Fast Ace fork, a DNM, or a Talaria Factory fork. Do you like any of these, or should I opt for the least expensive one, and discard it, to buy the Fox 40 fork and Fox F2 shock that you recommend?... or are there other forks and shocks that you'd also recommend, in a lower price range? I'm assuming that the shock is the most important upgrade, then the fork?... or are they important to both do at the same time. Budget, budget....damn
@LarryRichelli

The biggest problem with the Talaria is that the folks the make the bigger controller and bigger battery for the Sur Ron that will not work on this. Having had two sur rons know that most people buying this will want to upgrade to more power and I'm sure it will be a while before you can get upgraded controllers and bigger batteries for this.

There is another comparison video which said the distance from seat to peg is within 0.5” or so on both bikes. So while the Talaria stands taller and has more ground clearance, it doesn’t really translate to accommodating taller riders any better. Granted, you have more distance to the ground for peg extenders. It was also mentioned the seat to stem depth is more shallow on Talaria stock, so you’ll be in more of a froward lean position while seated.
@ElectricCycleRider
@ElectricCycleRider 2 года назад
@Chad Rabe Thanks for pointing that out. I have not measured that distance but you're correct, dropping the pegs will be more feasible on the Talaria for that reason.

Hey Tucker! Love your videos ! Last time I commented on your Varg video you and your great content made me consider getting one of these bikes and now a couple of weeks later I've decided to get one soon so thank you for that haha, you did influence me :D I've also watched your previous Talaria video where you rode with your mates, one of which had a KX85 front fork on the Surron. Can you please give us any information about it in terms of performance compared to other aftermarket forks for Surrons ? Also, will it fit Talaria ? And what do you think overall of that modificiation ? It makes sense to me as getting one of those KX85 forks will be significantly cheaper than brand new Fox forks so I'd like your insight as I have no clue whether that's good or not. I'm planning to do light trails with the bike. Thank you
@ElectricCycleRider
@ElectricCycleRider 2 года назад
@Richard Hey Richard! That's awesome to hear! In regards to the fork: Yes, for sure. I am going to be doing a build in the coming 1-2 months that will feature this exact topic. I'll need to ride it more in-depth to give my thoughts but please stay tuned for that. The quick answer is yes the bike was designed for a DH MTB fork but there are plenty of downsides to running those. They just are not designed for this much weight or type of riding. Manitou Dorado is another great fork for these bikes but expect to replace seals often and they do flex some - (Ebikezilla should be selling the Talaria with the Dorado). The downside to the 85cc forks is they are much heavier, although, that could be considered a pro depending on who you ask. I would only do the 85cc conversion if you're doing a power upgrade like BAC4000/8000 with a battery and are prepared for the bike to handle more like a "dirt bike". Hope that helps, more to follow. Thanks for the note 👍

$450 for shipping on top of the $4,200 price tag? Fuck outta here.

4200 is pretty decent for what you’re getting. There’s nothing comparable in the dirt bike world.

yeah, i started looking into these things as well. the price and range on these is just horrible. i can buy a hawk dlx 250 for 1/2 the price. id rather go the enduro route tbh. i dont have to lug around a battery in a backpack. the range on these is 30 or less depending on riding. im looking for something to mess around on and this just isnt it.

@@parkersgarage4216 that literally has nothing in common with the sur ron at all...idk why you would even compare them.

@@tigerrider6711 it's 1/2 the price and way more fun. The range is also alot better as well haha. Oh, it's also street legal as well. I know it doesn't as it's cheaper and better.

A 18/21 and bigger battery talaria will be near 170lbs or more 😳 surrons bigger bro

The Talaria actually weighs ~135lb stock, not 150. There are videos our there where they're weighed.
@Zackattack94
@Zackattack94 2 года назад
@@nxdboi my fully modded surron went from 110lb stock to about 140lbs with 18/21 and everything upgraded. I added that ~30lbs in upgrades to stock talaria. A surron at 140lbs is already pushing the limits on the best mtn bike forks and shocks, especially if youre a heavy rider.
@nxdboi
@nxdboi 2 года назад
@@Zackattack94 The stock wheel setup on the Talaria is heavier. The Talaria battery is also something like ~10lbs heavier, so swapping them out with the same setup on your Sur Ron won't just be simple as just adding the weight difference from stock. The change in weight won't be as dramatic as it was on your Sur Ron.
@Zackattack94
@Zackattack94 2 года назад
@@nxdboi the talaria tire is still the same just slightly bigger then surron in the rear. The oem wheel set is extremely light. 21 front upgrade adds a lot of weight too. So that weight change will be huge if you go 18/21 on either bike. The weight gain on the talaria is going to be in the 25 to +30lbs if you go the full mx routewith power upgrades, no way around it. At 135lbs stock it almost the same weight as fully modded surron which already feels big to me going over jumps on hard landings. Adding any weight to the talaria is going to be noticable. The talaria needs 1000w more power and larger battery capacity just to feel the same and get the same range as stock surron. But only time will tell how the mtn bike parts hold up to abuse from these bikes.
@nxdboi
@nxdboi 2 года назад
@@Zackattack94 The hub is more substantial on the Talaria than that on the Sur Ron. Also take into account that changing the belt to a chain also adds a couple of pounds. All in all, taking into account all the changes that you _dont_ have to do to the Talaria and usually make on a Sur Ron, the Talaria is more like 15lbs heavier after all is said and done.

You put the battery down on the sand then you put it back in the bike without cleaning the bottom of it, you know right the electric contacts are right at the bottom!
