We had a 11 night stay here in August ’24 and thought it would be worthwhile letting everyone know whether it is a hotel to book or a hotel to miss.
Menorca is a Spanish Island situated in the Mediterranean. Known for its hospitality and for being one of the quieter and more family friendly of the Balearic Islands. From the main airport in Mahon the capital, it is approx. a 1-hour bus transfer to the Talayot Apartments, which are located in Cala n Forcat, next to Cala n Blanes.
The Talayot Apartments is described as a 2-star self-catering resort. So, to be honest, we were not expecting luxury, and was hoping that the 2-star grading it had was not accurate…

The question was, would a 2-star self-catering resort be able to match that, or would we be disappointed.
Firstly, the Room - We had a 1 bedroomed apartment. In this we found we had good cooking facilities, dining table and sofa beds, and in the bedroom, you had a lot of wardrobe space and 2 single beds. All beds, even the sofa beds were very comfortable. Both living room and bedroom had air conditioning, which we did really put to good use. The bathroom had a good shower, that even though was one operated via the bath mixer taps, never failed to give hot water. Then the balcony, this was huge! We had table, chairs, two sun loungers and still excess room to amble around. We di have two parasol bases, but no parasols, so that was a bit confusing and when it was hot, is certainly something we could have done with. It is also worth noting that every other day the cleaner visits tidying the room, leaves fresh towels and changes the sheets!
The Complex - This is where the Talayot Apartments came into its own. It is a large complex and has 7 pools in total! It actually kept us occupied trying to fin all of them and even after 11 days we had only tried 5.
Pool 1- paddling pool for kids next to the restaurant.
Pool 2 - main pool below the snack bar
Pool 3 - splash pool with slides etc next to the snack bar
Pool 4 - a pool consisting of two, one deep for adults and one 0.5metres deep for children
Pool 5 - next to the S block behind the restaurant building - which a lot of people were unaware of, so it was always quiet
Pool 6 - In the apartments over the road, we saw this on the last day and again it looked great for kids and adults but was a bit smaller than the others
Pool 7 - An indoor pool, with spa (we think) that had to be booked in advance.
Basically, you could always find somewhere to swim and we found that with exception of certain times at the main pool, you could always find a sun bed!! This is something that we were never able to do at the 4-star resort up the road and it actually made the whole holiday experience far nicer.
Activities - The TUI reps at the resort ran kids' clubs throughout the day, entertained people next to the main pool and were always on hand to assist if required.
There was two pay areas and outdoor amusements for kids and adults. Crazy golf, Go carts and a small indoor arcade. Then each evening there was different entertainment, ranging from magicians and bands through to Karaoke and Disney shows. In summary, something for everyone.
Location - this again, where the Talayot Apartment stood out. It is 0.5 miles from Cala n Blanes beach and approx. 1 mile from Cala n Forcat beach. In between the hotel and Cala n Forcat beach there are tens of restaurants ranging from Spanish, English, Indian, Italian and Chinese. All have varying prices and some offer menus of the day for anyone that is looking to budget the money. Ciutadella is a €10 taxi ride and Cala n Bosch is €20 taxi ride, so if you do want to venture afar there are easy options. And we can say that both are worth visiting.
You also have the water park approx. 400 metres from the hotel. This is great for younger kids, but older ones i.e. above 13 may find it a bit tame. Video of water park here: - • Aqua Centre Water Park...
So how did we find this 2-star resort? In all honesty, we were blown away, it is actually better than the 4-star all-inclusive down the road room wise as well as pool wise! Would we go back again, most definitely and we have no hesitation recommending the Talayot Apartments to anyone with a family who wants a quick getaway on the beautiful island of Menorca
