Morgan having a chance to move forward from this tragedy, but choosing to slip into further darkness. Barris being offered the chance to embrace that darkness, but chooses to seek the light again. It’s an interesting dichotomy. Although I think an extra episode, one for each arc, would’ve been nice.
I can’t believe none of the reactions I’ve watched have made a comment on the music in that final scene. It carries so much emotional weight in that scene, it gives me full body chills every time.
I love the music. It's so good. I can't wait to get the soundtracks to listen in isolation. (Also: they FINALLY released an official Rebels S3/S4 soundtrack!)
4:52 I'm SOOO Glad you understood Baris's character right from the get-go SOOO many people are complaining they didn't get their dark story because they didn't understand Baris's motives AT ALL
Bariss' story is certainly an interesting mirror to Morgan's, letting anger make poor choices but one remembered the core of their beliefs whilst the other was consumed
25:37 Not just Ashoka, but her Master included. You know, she was heartbroken to know that her padawan was taken by the dark side. But she would also be proud that she hasn’t lost her way.
What people don't know is that Barriss didn't just casually bombed the jedi temple and framed her Ahsoka. In the short story a Jedi's Duty, by Karen Strong out of Barriss perspective before she began to fall to the dark side, is it explained. Palpatine searched for vulnerable Jedis like Barriss, to get them on the dark path, he planned the turning of Jedi to Inquisitors and so many other things. Really a mastermind. Mirialans actually have a pretty long live span, so it needs to be her force healing that makes her older. Lyn is also really far down the dark path and that makes her age slower. I'm curious if we see Barriss/Lyn in Ahsoka S2. 🤔 Kenobi is after Ep5, that explains also why Lyn is so silent/absent, she lost her only friend 😏
The Way Out is set a few months after the Kenobi series by the way guys. Now it makes sense why we don’t see Fourth Sister past this. Great reaction though.
The fluffy basic-speaking mole alien is a Mohsenian, there’s one in Rise Of Skywalker. What’s crazy is that the Visual Dictionary talks about them being able to “Smell illness and injury” and their body’s having “natural defence’s” against sickness. The one in TROS is a medic who can diagnose patients “quickly and accurately” Having one be a healers assistant for Barriss is PERFECT! Lucasfilm going deep on the lore details AGAIN! 🔥
23:58 that’s not Project Necromancer, it’s like a decade after that. It’s Inquisitors kidnapping children for the Inquisitorious program, like we see in the Vader comics and Rebels Season 2.
definitely after Project Necromancer or the events of Bad Batch. I do believe in the Vader comics, the purpose of having Vader retrieve the full list of children from the Jedi Archives was for both Project Necromancer and Inquisitorious recruitment but since he destroyed it, both were put on severe delays. As for Rebels S2, i think it was at that point The Inquisitorious are really running short on numbers to the point Vader has to be on-field, to which he prefers that than a desk job.
Project Necromancer wasn't scrapped after bad batch it was just forced to start from scratch. They probably did still kidnap force sensitive children for project necromancer.
TOTE e6 “The way out” is set months after “Kenobi”…when Barriss said:I’m sending you to an old friend THAT told me Ahsoka & Barriss reconnected & Ahsoka forgave Barriss for what happened in “The Wrong Jedi”….only question this episode left me with is what planet is Barriss on is it Hoth?
This was what I thought as well. Months after Kenobi but some time before the Jedha assault on Jedi Survivor. It just threw me off a bit because they made Bariss look older than she probably would've been at this point.
In the last episode, I think it's pretty clear this takes place after the events of Kenobi. Though I was expecting Vader to come after Barriss just to bring her character to full circle, make it poetic. (Anakin imprisoned her, Vader freed her kinda way) I've noticed that some of the Inquisitors seem burnt out, tired and lost their cool easily compared to what they initially were. This is evident in The 4th Sister as shown and The 9th Sister from Jedi (in Fallen Order, she was smart and brutal and by Survivor, she's but a suicidal raging beast)
I mean the second sister, was a brilliant duelist but she lost her mind in the end. Probably because she slowly turned on the light side and couldn't handle her pain.
God, even if it is in a book in the future, I just want Ahsoka to see Barris in the World Between Worlds, and them reconcile. Even though she did frame Ahsoka, deep down she never really meant to do it. She let her emotions take control. Her frustration with the militarization of the Jedi Order made her mad, which is understandable when you are taken at a young age, and trained by people who tell you "Our job is to keep peace". Barris is very much a pacifist to an extent, this is proven in "The Way Out" where she wields no weapon and focuses on helping others.
I think living in a harsh environment (snow can reflect much UV), working as a force healer (that may use a bit of her own life-force), and perhaps spending time on self-reflection and repent, accelerate Bariss's ageing.
I wonder if the Fortress under construction is for trainees and new inductees, and that's why we only see 4 inquisitors and the trainees. The other dozen are at the Coruscant Inquisitorium already taking assignments. So once construction is complete, then the entire organization settles in the tower.
@@voiceofraisin3778 nah in the vader comics Vader discovers the existence of the inquistors when vader is sent after the grand inquistor by palps who tells him the GI is an intruder. After a brief fight Palps reveals the truth and shows him several other inquisitors (fifth brother, sixith brother, seventh sister, ninth sister and tenth brother) and informs Vader they are now under his command weather he likes it or not. Vader proceeds to teach them the meaning of suffering by removing a limb from each of them. The episode's batch of inquisitors is likely the class 2/ the second batch of recruits. The comic goes on to show that the inquisitors were based on Coruscant until 14 bby where a public incident between vader, the thirteenth sister and an unnamed male inquisitor leads to Palpatine moving them to the Fortress inquistorius on Nur to avoid another such incident and to stop them causing chaos on "his world". The event also leads Vader to requesting his own world. However we know the fortress existed before this incident as Cere was tortured there in the years prior to the events of fallen order (also set in 14 bby).
You are so right - Barriss grows into THE Jedi that most encapsulates the ultimate principles of the Jedi Order - I REALLY hope we get to see Ahsoka and Barriss meet as friends once more....
I take Lyn's redemption as the Force saw she needed help so it helped her cross paths with Bariss as a way to convince the former to leave the Empire and find the light again.
Kyle, Bendu, I think Filoni and his Team are setting up a Star Wars: The Hidden Path Animated series, continuing the story We saw with Barriss Offee and Lyn Rakish, along w/ many others. May The Force Be With You.
The theory of them building the modern Fortress around an existing structure underwater is fascinating, and actually makes a lot of sense. They had a LOT of it built for how soon after the war it was- it makes a lot more sense they were just building on top of something else, upgrading the structural integrity and whatnot. And it would fit kind of how like I think the Project Necromancer lab in Mount Tantiss seemed to be built into an ancient Sith site of some kind. Palpatine has been shown to be very into ancient Sith mysticism and cults, and so rebuilding an old, forgotten Sith fortress or outpost would make sense for him from both a personal and also economical standpoint. It has symbolism and it’s also cheaper and more efficient than building a new one outright.
Qui-Gon died because Obi-Wan didn't know how to Force Heal. Obi-Wan was powerful but he was a very slow learner. He almost quit Jedi training before EP1 because he had a hard time learning the basics.
i enjoyed barriss's story here. i think there's some within fandom that wanted her to go full darkside more akin to what we got from the 4th sister here but barriss always questioned. and perceived the jedi to have become corrupted she wasn't going to just fall in line with the inquisitors or the empire. her ultimate rejection of the dark path felt true to her. i liked her becoming a hermit healer but what i really loved what the first time i saw barriss in animation was in the clone wars shorts on illum. one snow mysterious snow planet to another.
Everybody refers to Gui-Gon's death as being the only one that really takes when getting stabbed through the torso. But what everyone forgets is that he DIDN'T die right away. He _fell_ right away, but Maul just left him there and waited for Obi-Wan to be free to come at him, they then had a full lightsaber duel, Kenobi cuts him in half and he falls...*and the Kenobi and Jinn have a conversation where where he gets a "deathbed promise" out of Kenobi to train Anakin.* In every other case, the person stabbed has 1.) received help fairly quickly (Ahsoka shows up _immediately_ after Sabine is stabbed, for example, and Palpatine comes for Anakin right away) or, 2.) they're already on the Dark Side and so filled with hate and rage that it keeps them going (Reva, the Grand Inquisitor [who probably also received help fairly quickly], Maul). See, that was the stupid part of bringing Maul back. Nothing about the way he died should have been survivable; the severed spine should have paralyzed him, and he lost a lot of organs when he was cut. But if he could survive _that,_ then nobody in the SW galaxy should ever die from any wound provided that they are found and given adequate triage within a reasonable amount of time. When Anakin was the *only* one who survived having his limbs cut off and being burned alive on Mustafar, it made him an extraordinary and epic character, someone who stood out as the only example, making him superhuman, basically. When Maul came back, it broke everything. After that, it's "Hey you got the Force? Oh, well you can't be killed, then. And btw lightsabers aren't as deadly a weapon anymore as you think they are, they're basically just swords now. No, scratch that...they are swords that can heal the injuries they give you, because they cauterize the wounds. But thy can still deflect blaster bolts, and swords can't deflect bullets, so that's something, right? Right?"
It is funny how they handled this - we've been asking if Barris was alive or dead since the Clone Wars, we get an answer, and now we are back at the same question - is she alive or dead after this? XD
Absolutely loved Bariss' arc! Did what she needed to survive but when confronted with the obvious evil of the Empire she chose the light. Beautiful shots too. Second episode was quite confusing, I was waiting for the kid's master or friend to show up but then "they" is just one dude. Completely took me out of the story. Third episode brought it home though, Lynn getting lost in the caves was so cool. I dig the the cave trapping the dark side, making it impossible to get out. Sad that Bariss sacrificed herself, or got killed in the process, but at least she saved Lynn in the end.
My headcanon is that Fortress Inquisitorius is build on the ruins of an ancient Sith temple. The reason why it's flooded is because of ancient Sith Dark Side practices.
It’s also interesting when you remember Bariss force choked letta Thurmond leading to ahsoka trial nice call back it’s interesting how the two very much become grey Jedi from totally opposite ends of the spectrum.
@@benji7888 Don't forget, though, that Bariss straight up murdered a bunch of people in the temple bombing and set up her best friend by darkside force-choking a witness. Bariss certainly repented, but her path to how a Jedi is supposed to act spent a lot of time deep in the dark side doing dark things.
@@jeffandjoannbauer9567 Well, that's why he searched for vulnerable Jedi in the first place. Convert, manipulate and turn them. If the Jedi weren't so blind, they could have saved Barriss, Dooku and so many other Jedi. However, she is one of the few who was able to come back to her true self. You can say what you want, but Palpatine was a true mastermind.
Barriss visibly stops breathing before Lyn picks her up, and the nearest ship is out of the cave and across the wasteland who knows how far. It's Star Wars, but at the very least, I'd avoid getting my hopes up.
The Animation Dude! I mean Rukk already was so upgraded as well as Thrawn skin texture from Rebels... but the looks from the Jedi temple burning from her cell, Nur and the Inquisitorium under construction. The Grat Inquisitor from the very poor ones from his species on Episode 3 to the one on rebels to this... Vader's helmeth at the end of Part 4. You set such an interesting question there... There was a previous temple on this Nur Inquisitorium Base? An old Sith one? A corrupted Jedi one? The open hands of Barriss before Lyn stabs her, she totally was expecting Lyn to open at least a lil bit to the light side to sense her or sense the path out and she gave her life for the 4th Sister to defeat darkness... Thinking that line from the villager before been slaughtered "we are always judged by our actions" will have acho somehow on Lyn's destiny.
I really like how Barriss' story starts, and how her approach to being an Inquisitor is "we want to help you, not slaughter you", but I wasn't really sold on the ending. It was almost too similar to stories we've seen before, I dunno. I guess I expected something a bit different from the jump from 2nd to 3rd episode.
The Fortress Inquisitorious is being built on top of some old ruins: if you check out the training chamber and then the gladiator ring, there are runes carved into the walls. Maybe it's on top of an old Sith temple?
@@corynydam2361 actually I don’t. I frankly made an assumption, given the trend in Star Wars where a structure (e.g., the Jedi temple) is built over something older. And those two areas look dramatically older than the surrounding areas of the Fortress Inquisitorious.
I think this was only twelve to thirteen years before Rebels started, and the friend that Barris mentioned was Quinlan Vos, because I don't think she would've reconnected with Ahsoka considering their past. Vos, however, would've understood the principal of why Barris did what she did. The other thing, did the parents of the child remind anyone of someone from Rebels? I know the baby doesn't have blue eyes, but imagine them changing over time, and you have Ezra Bridger. As for her aged appearance, when you heal someone you use a bit of your Force energy to remove disease, or heal a wound, drawing the energy out of your body and replacing it in theirs. Barris must've healed dozens, if not over a hundred people by the time we saw her in the third episode. That would've been a decent reason why the Jedi kept that particular skill held back, because Jedi would've sacrificed themselves just to heal the Galaxy at large.
She would not reconnect with Ahsoka? Thats bull. Of course they would. The friend is clearly mentioned as SHE and an old friend. So Ahsoka makes the most sense, Ventress or Cere are possible candidates but nothing like "old" friends.
I always wonder why ppl were upset that characters survive those impales/stabs... not Disney started it... watch the 1st SWTOR trailer with Malgus's master. I never ever heard ppl complain about that one despite it was waaay earlier :D
I'm pretty sure Barriss sent her padawans to put those parents and kid to an old friend named... The Martez Sisters!!! LOL Nah... just kidding... Bro, Barriss was being a badass with those moves with no saber, rhyme with Great Inquisitor taining her and also very used by Dooku, and I think also Cere...
I feel like the final episode takes place further down the line, maybe towards either Empire or even Return. Also, I think Barriss has aged so much is because she lives in that harsh area, so the elements have taken their physical toll.
Na, her home planet is pretty harsh and cold. She can handle that. Maybe they wanted to show her growth, like an old wise Jedi Grandmaster. Her species can life for hundreds of years. 🤔
Vader has more important things to do than to settle a petty vendetta when the whole reason they were enemies in the first place was because Vader was a Jedi who was fighting to protect the Jedi Order.
I like how they made the Grand Inquisitor masochistic. Like he probably enjoyed getting stabbed in Obi-Wan. I thought the dad with the kid in the last one was the Jedi she saved in the previous episode. I think 🤔
Barriss is one of the best characters in Star Wars, I hope we are going to see if she's really dead because to me it was a weird scene and rushed ending but overall really unexpected and special. Barriss isn't evil and I'm glad!
I don’t think a terrorist bombing and framing your best friend constitutes standing by her convictions and being purer than the rest of the order. But I like where her story got her, I just wish they’d taken her further into the darkness before she got herself out. But I guess that’s the best they could do with three shorts.
Bariss following the Jedi old tradition of yeeting dark siders from great heights. 😈 I don't think Bariss was recruited the next day considering there were already inquisitors there (4th Sister and Grand Inquisitor) and the Fortress Inquisitorius was already being build in Nur. Since Vader defeated Grand Inquisitor and took control of their training i believe it is more likely that he was the one who chose to build the Fortress close to his castle in Mustafar. Also GI admonished Bariss for fighting defensively like a Jedi and that is something that Vader did with him (Darth Vader Volume #2 from 2017-2019). Vader said he would train GI to change this "flaw" and then he should transmit those teachings to the inquisitors. But i agree that Vader was definitely looking at her during their "graduation" ceremony. 😆 Knowing that she is likely working with the Hidden Path opens so many possibilities, like seeing Bariss and Lyn finding Ahsoka, Cal, Merrin and Greez. So long as she is still alive, which i think she is with how open the ending was. Lyn choosing to take Bariss away from that cave for me is a indicative she was still alive. Also worth noticing, was that Jedi non binary? Bariss and Lyn kept refering to them using the third person pronouns they and them. And i quite like how they made a point of showing how the Inquisitors' training serves to hinder the progression of their skills. A exausted Jedi was still able to defeat 4th Sister, just like a Jedi master Bariss was easily able to avoid Lyn's attacks. We saw this before with Ahsoka and Cal too. Agree, last episode was after Obi Was Kenobi series. Lyn leaving her red bladed lightsaber behind is a clear indication she is leaving that life and coming back to the path of Light. Seriously those three episodes were amazing. Story, fighting choreography and the character development for Bariss and Lyn.
I would add the excausted Jedi beat Lyn because she was unnecessary playing. She actually looked competend until the spinning..., so they could land a pretty good kick.
Double commenting, but the ending with Lyn includes that shot of her looking straight up in the cave, accompanied by what sound like whispering voices. Whispering voices in Star Wars almost ALWAYS mean there’s Force-sensitive tomfoolery running amok, either the Dark Side doing evil chanting or the Light Side offering a helping hand. In this case, it might actually be a little of both. Symbolically, Lyn is looking up TOWARDS the light and away from the darkness. Accompanied by the whispers, it could symbolize her letting go of her fear, her anger, abandoning the Dark Side and heralding her return to the Light. The fact that the storm outside the cave stopped, and the image of Lyn emerging from the dark and into the light also adds to this theme of “returning to the Light.” It’s similar to the non-verbal messaging JJ Abrams did in The Force Awakens with Kylo Ren, when he kills Han on the catwalk, except that’s the opposite and it’s Kylo forsaking the Light and sinking into Darkness.
"Harvey Birdman, Inquisitor at Law." Man, fuck all these "Tales of" shows and just make that Disney. Get on it. But seriously, these new animated series are phenomenal.
It’s interesting how easy it is (imho) for those who watch Star Wars to somewhat forgive or have legitimate empathy for those who went to the dark side. We see this with Vader, Ventress, Bariss, and more. Vader and Ventress murdered thousands of people and were cold blooded killers. Barris was a terrorist and killed many people. It reinforces the idea that no matter how bad someone is, as long as they did it for the right reasons then we can forgive them, which I don’t subscribe to at all. This is a conversation that I think was had in the rebellion itself, as we saw it unfold in season 3 or 4 of Rebels, where Saw Gerrera was at odds with Mon Mothma over his way of fighting the Empire. Thats more forgivable (justified) because the Empire didn’t fight fair either. With that said, I think the Bariss story line was great. I do wish we had gotten some more time with her on repenting (for lack of a better word) for what she did during the Clone Wars.
Barriss might have looked older because she used her life to heal, and what about this planet Barriss lived on being Illum? I think Barriss died but she gave life to Lynn and gave her redemption so Lynn could take Barriss place as the healer.
I really liked where this story went, other than the ending being so open ended and uncertain! I wasn't sure from the dialogue if Lyn saved her, or just with "I'm going to get you out of here." wanted to prevent her body from being left in that maze. This is the first reaction I've watched to the last episode, so maybe others were more certain about her fate, but it seemed ambiguous for me at least. I'm pretty sure Barris lived, but the non-certainty of it rubbed me a little the wrong way. I wish we had a few more shots/scenes of that last episode.
Of course this is after Kenobi. If Barris is roughly the same age Ahsoka is, by the events of the fourth episode of Tales of the Empire (Order 66 happening) Barris must be 17-ish. Kenobi happens 10 years after Order 66, so by that time Barris has to be 27-ish... so TotE's last episode has to be way after that because of Barris aging, no 27 years old looks THAT old no matter how much spice and deathsticks given.
So I’m curious, if Lyn is one of the first inquisitors why is she named the Fourth Sister instead of the First Sister? If this is after Kenobi I wonder why the Fortress isn’t fully constructed yet considering it was fully built in Kenobi unless it’s a retcon
Barris story is set in the year 19 BBY while Kenobi is 10 BBY. That's a whole 9 years for the Fortress to be built. As for Lyn not being the 2nd Sister who's to say the others aren't around too just not in this series.
You are a little confused. Episode 4 and 5 are at the start of the Empire, while epusode 6 is much much later. So episodes 4 and 5 are before Kenobi and only episode 6 is after Kenobi
Hopeful thinking but if there's another Tales Of, I'd love it to be Tales of Rebellion. Not Tales of THE Rebellion, Tales of Rebellion which technically would include the Separatists and we can watch General Greivous go from being a proud Kaleesh warrior to the brutal and terrifying monster cyborg he became.
I enjoyed the Barriss arc, tho I think the execution od it could be handeled a little better. Netherless I don't think she was miserpresented. I really like her character in Legends where she is a healer. Thanks.
In 30 years we will be getting "Tales from Background Characters that appeared on screen for less than 3 seconds". I will probably still watch if I am alive.
