Ponsonby and Grey Lynn were significant areas where Polynesians from the islands would settle from the 1940's onwards.
For 13 years the Pua brothers, Reverend Mua Strickson-Pua and Sofi Ulugia-Pua have told their story in historic walks through Ponsonby and Grey Lynn.
We joined them as they take Sofi's son Iosefa Ulugia-Pua on one of those walks particularly talking about growing up in 'the hood' during the 70's and 80's.

Thank you for the memories. My parents worked at the laundry in newmarket aired here and even saw a familiar face in their younger days, and has since passed just as my parents have. We were in Crummer Road next door to Five Star Family home and were privileged to hear all their famous music being recorded and practised. My mum also a relative to the Yandall sisters. Grey Lynn lives on as home in our hearts always. Faafetai Lava.

Hey sorry for the random. But my grandfather and mother also worked at that laundromat as well during those days. My grandfather couldn't stop talking about that place and all the nice people he made friends with during that time.

I wish someone would put the chch and Wellington version up as I grew up in welly and I know it was a similar transition from Wellington central newtown to porirua east similarities from Auckland city to otara migration I still remember the dawn raids as a child of the late 70s early 80s but would love to hear and watch the Wellington/ chch version if any ?
