Smiled when I heard this in the grocery store today. 40 years on and 80s classics are still going strong! I promise you back in 1984 they weren’t playing music from 1944 in the grocery stores. Todays music won’t be playing in stores 40 years from now. I guarantee it. 80’s music is absolutely timeless and I’m so glad I grew up with it.
It's interesting listening to the selection of music used in contemporary adverts: the same selection of music you'd find in a top of the 80's compilation
@@jimmycain8669 It doesn't have qualities of vocal athleticism which I expect you have in mind, but it's very expressive and quite capable of moving flourishes.
The very very best of times, i was so lucky (although i did not understand) to be 16 at the start of the 1980's, no phones, no internet, no social media.......... Bliss.
And what's really peculiar is at the time this was considered New age pop lol Believe it or not early '80s this was actually way ahead of its time anything that was synthesized or driven with Simmons drums or a programmed drum track was way way ahead of its time we were just coming out of '70s soul Zeppelin and some of the earliest 1980s and mid to late '70s rock and roll artists so this was actually called Progressive and New Wave at that time
It sounds like what the cure model themselves after a lot of the alternative new wave pop music groups heading all the way into the '90s and the 2000s kind of model themselves after this and flock of seagulls and so many others
I’m going to have to agree with you 100 percent. I’ve always loved this song, but watching it performed live in the way that Mark Hollis gets into the song, unlike the video, was pretty cool. Plus the audio and video for something 40 years old is absolutely amazing.
@@ctfan1486 Millie Vanilli deserved it, they were conning people. Back in the 80s bands could actually play outside of the studio and singers could sing live
I graduated in 1984 and this song takes me back to huge house parties. Painful to listen because the 80s were the best time of my life. Carefree and fun!!
....the creativity of todays music is stand still of musical noise. It goes with the age. Musicians today are uninspired, deterred for fame, glory, money..etc. There's no catapult for wanting to create on larger scale. The 70's/80's generation was a rush of genius creativity. It was music for the people, by the people creating a collective experience. As we can see. when we look back. The further we move away. The more its appreciated. As for myself, more I miss.
@@skopas this is a disgusting sentiment that is all too present nowadays. art is a forever transforming medium. when Talk Talk debuted, this exact “this isn’t real music” was used against them. music is in its best time now. whine and moan all u want or move on, it’s just cold facts.
Driving home in 1986 after the birth of our first son. The showcased the Color of Spring. First time I ever heard Talk talk or Mark. I am not sure what it was but I fell in love with the uniqueness of their music that night. Rest in Peace Mark. You are missed
I listened to these guys in the eighties…and thought they were really good….then I rediscovered them in the nineties…and thought they were better than good…they were great….then I re-rediscovered them again this year and can’t believe how truly awesome this group was….Unbelievably talented. Unfortunately music today can’t even come close to Talk Talk
The way the crowd reacts and claps along makes this even better. I always loved Mark's goofy persona and seemingly down to earth way he came across in their videos. RIP, Mr Hollis. You gave people a gift that was honest and meaningful.
Bringing me to tears listening to this, so many happy memories of the 80s and it's music, especially TalkTalk. So sad Mark and his wonderful voice isn't with us anymore. But we still have this!
One of the best songs of the 80s and such a powerful song.Marks voice was incredible better than the crap today....and if you have a brother KW then it's me LW👍
The audio is the most impressive to me. Remember, this is 40 years ago and I am right now blasting this on my Soundsystem and I can’t believe how good the audio is.
The audio wasn't bad back in the day, it's youtube that makes such crappy compression of music and video, plus many people have uploaded poor quality items. When one is better than average it really stands out.
