(06-21-2021) - In a 2016 interview (with 2021 visuals including pictures from his collection), Richard Carpenter of the Carpenters tells Randy about his Classic Cars, what car he first came to California in and which cars from his family's past he still owns. Also why he likes to collect cars other people do not. Plus the cars on their album covers and why he's a fan of "Nervous Norvis"

Great interview. YOu can hear how interesting and engaging Richard is to talk about cars. I am sure he gets a little tired of being asked the same questions about music and Karen. I loved the questions you asked about driving to California and all the things along the way. Richard seeing an A&W for the first time!!!! Route 66!!!! RIchard is right about the 60's and all the unique looking cars. NOwadays most of the cars look the same.

A very enjoyable interview and being a Mopar fan myself made it all the more interesting. Thank you!

My favorite car back then was the 57 Chevy. In the late 50s and early 60s we had a 55' Rocket 88 Olds 2 door. The epitome of a 1950s classic.

Love how Richard has such great taste in cars, and that he bought them because he liked them, whether they had “collector value” or not 🙂! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interview before where Richard talks cars, although I did know the Ferrari Daytona Coupe (365 GTB/4) on the cover of Then and Now was actually his car 😁❤️. The story of that cover is hilarious 😂, and I’m with Richard that it was a sacrilege to (visually) cut Karen’s face in half 🤣! Something I’m surprised that neither you nor he mentioned was that the house in the background was their folks’ house, when they first moved out to California 😮!

My Grandparents first new car was a 60' Dodge Phoenix. Before that they had 36' Ford.

Was the Plymouth Satellite a re-trimmed Dodge Dart?
@tootiredguysprod.talkingab4347
@tootiredguysprod.talkingab4347 Месяц назад
More like a variation of the 64 Dodge Polara or Plymouth Fury…..in 1965 they were still B bodies….in ‘65 the Fury and Polara became C bodies. The Dart was more a clone of the Plymouth Valiant.

I saw a Carpenters publicity photo of Richard and Karen standing next to a (I think) 1972 Ford Econoline van with the Carpenters logo painted on the side and "powered by Bear" painted on the driver side door. I would love to ask Richard what ever happened to it? Did A&M Records own it or him?
