Interesting discussion. Larry Roberts comes across as a very nice guy and knowledgeable as well. I have never met him but he has answered questions I have posted on some of his videos and is always helpful and courteous. I wish I could say the same for some other folks on social media.

no belt knife, axe, big saw combo covers all the bases. It can't dig worth a hoot. It cant clear vines and brush worth a hoot. It can't clamp onto anything, and it's 3 items, not just 2 as is the case with the Crunch and the sawblade. I replaced the serrated blade with a carbon steel regular blade, replaced the bit driver with another file blade, sharpened both of the screwdriver ends of the file into chisel points, removed the screwdriver blades, added an awl. You only need one each bowl and spoon, and you can whittle/burn them in half a day with the modified crunch.given the can opener having been modified into a scoop knife.

you dont have to split or chop big wood. You can break off plenty of dead branches with a big club or use your saw blade, held in the Crunch.

No one knife can do all that's needed, so I choose one of Condor's new e tools, modified to have a REAL saw edge, and a modified Crunch multitool, with a Silky saw blade to be held in the Visegrip of the Crunch. This combo is SO far ahead of any one knife that there's simply no comparison. Dave M has told me that I'd not cut thru a mile of bamboo with it. My answer is that I'd not be doing so with anything. Any place with that much bamboo, you'd just h ave to cut thru another 100 miles beyond the first mile. so what would be the point of chopping thru the first mile? You're still gonna have to go around it. I aint some missionary seaching for lost tribes to convert

Say Heah Larry Roberts, Yeah, I like the Kephart L@@K, I also like the Woodlore L@@K a little better, But I started liking the Gasconade L@@K too, That gave me grounds to turn a Battle Horse Attitude into something personal. When I got a e-mail for a March previewed Attitude from B H, I started to think What If. I liked the handle alot better than the sausage handle. When I asked to have a it Slightly Curved the peak off the Pommel was taken off. Which in turn helped me hold the knife in many positions and knife functions like like chopping. I also had a High Scandi Grind put on it and finally I had the Drop Point Lowered that sort of resembled the Gasconade. It turn out outstanding. I love it. I was surprised with a Black Square Bottom Leather Dangler Sheath a perfect match. Later on I got a e-mail for tgeir Mad Hatter Machete, which again I had it modified. I had a matching handle made which my Modde Attitude had a White G-10 Handle with Blue Liners, so the Mad Hatter Machete also was made with that kind of handle. I also had the spine made rounded and the edge Convexed except for part of it in a Scandi Grind also a part of a 90° to strike my ferro rod. In turned what I ended up with was actually a large knife to compliment my Smaller Modde Attitude. I love it, Infact I love the combo. The way I'm able to hold my Modde Attitude I can slice as if it has a continuous curve. Both knives compliment eachother perfectly too. But I didn't stop just their, I commisioned Mr. William Collins to make a set that I could use together. I like my knives to match. Infact I posted pictures of my combo that's unfinished in my Google Plus your welcome to L@@K and tell me what you think. I would greatly appreciate that. Please L@@K.,,.p

TJack Survival True That Larry, Infact I also have a LT Wright GNS with Coyote Black Mountain Handle Simply TiT's, Beautiful. But I can't wait for my Customs Mr. William Collins is making me. Those unfinished photos of the blades are what I designed. Both will be in 3V. with White G-10 Handles with Red, White and Blue Liners they still could even match my White G-10 Adventure Sworn Guide in 3V. As far as Bark River I also have Sets in A2 and I'm still working on my 3V Set. Nice to have met you Larry.,,. p

i can move my sleeping shelter and hammock 100m in 20 minutes, takedown and set up. If I need a raised bed, I can build one in half a day and move it, too, no further than I have to move it to get to where there's more squaw- wood. In the time that it takes to build a log cabin and stock up a winter's firewood, I can just walk and raft far enough south that I' wont be in the cold for the winter, so why stay where the plants are died back for the winter, the animals are nearly all hibernating or migrated? Duh.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
Because you can't really do what you think you can do. Because meat that has been processed and trap lines that have been worked weight way more than you can carry. Have you ever seen the movie Dick Proenneke made? Have you ever done historical research or tried this theory of yours? There is value in being mobile and value in having one home to return to. If you can't see that I can't help you.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
You also forget that he didn't have much of any choice in not rafting south or movement.
@donrussell8889
@donrussell8889 6 лет назад
oh yeah? Larry has said (in some other interview that they were allowed a 5 mile radius, and the bairds were free to move around in their boat. Ditto Mike Loewe. This show is one thing, actual survival is another No way in hell I'd be out there, trying to forage for real, without some conibears, a lot more treblehooks and a couple of pistols. One being a silenced .22lr and one a pocket 9mm. Have to have spices, sedatives, stimulants, antibioties and painkillers, too, so you can carry one. Such meds total the most vital one oz of gear possible.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
We agree on that point then. They were limited outside of what a normal person would use. 5 miles is maybe looking around camp area. Not even close enough for average hunting. The .22 is an amazing hunting tool for sure. Very under utilized.

Say Heah, I could understand why you speak so highly about the Genesis, I have a very similar, I have a Vintage Blind Horse Bushcrafter, and your right, It works wood great. But it's a 4" blade and I like my knives a little longer. So I had Battle Horse modify the Attitude, WoW, It came out Aces, Similar to the Genesis and Bushcrafter but mine is also a 5 1/4" blade. Thanx for a educational discussion, Job well done. Oh, If you want to see my Modified Battle Horse Attitude, check it out on Google Plus just search Paulie 4X and tell me what you think, Again, Thanx.

California Republic??? Anyway. So where you are going is really humid and wet and you bring a carbon steel knife? LT Wright makes great knives but carbon steel is not for wet conditions. My guess would be this guy did not win the competition. Right?
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
You really should have watched it. He was the runner-up. He did better than all but one. Larry knows his craft inside and out. So much so that he went back and is in the current season that is running right now. Also, carbon steel does just fine in the Jungle. Don't believe me? Just ask the hundreds of thousands of the natives using carbon steel machetes down there all the time.
@stevanoutdoor
@stevanoutdoor 6 лет назад
Here in Europe they are on the air much later so maybe they will come up. The episodes of Alone I mean. Always wondered why on all these American shows only Americans can apply. ;) Anyway. True. In the jungle the machetes are mostly carbon steel. But the machetes are not the same as a food prep knife. Different intended uses. It also has to do with production cost and availability. Do these natives you are talking about have a choice? Or is it carbon steel machete or no machete? When I was in Colombia it was even very hard to find a halfway decent machete. Next time I bring my own machete. But for a main knife also used for food prep I would always take a stainless knife. I do like BHK and LT Wright. Don't get me wrong. But for wet conditions there are many other options. Really good knives in stainless steel. Less maintenance means calories saved.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
I don't know why we don't see Europeans on Alone. We had a Brit on the show I was on with Discovery. The Bushcraft Buildoff show. Maybe they aren't applying? I don't know. I'm ok with stainless knives. My only concern is the more stainless the more brittle. This isn't an issue if it is a small knife but can become a big issue if it is a big knife. Maybe apply for Alone season 6 and see what they say.
@stevanoutdoor
@stevanoutdoor 6 лет назад
+TJack Survival. The machetes I use are carbon steel but all the rest, including big knives, can be both and I never had any issue with stainless. For food prep I prefer stainless. A lot of the American survival shows seem to have started out as open to anyone and changed to Americans and Canadians only. Same with Naked and Afraid. Maybe it's the cost or liability issues. I don't know. I just think it would be nice to have people from all over the world be in one show and learn from each other.
@TJackSurvival
@TJackSurvival 6 лет назад
I'd love to see people from all over the world. I assume thoug yes it's cost. Flying someone from Europe cost two or three times as much as taking them from the US.
