you can't spare more than 2 picks for your cutting instruments, cause you also have to take one of the food rations, the tarp, the skillet, the sleeping bag, the fishhooks and line, the paracord hammock, the big roll of heavy duty duct tape, and one of Chief Aj's slingbows. A knife is just a knife, people, get that thru your head.
I’m not an outdoors expert, but I’ve watched a few seasons of Alone and some of the winners just used the dinky knife on their multi tools and used it to cut apart whole deer and moose. My conclusion from that was that having a big fancy knife is nice, but really not necessary. Especially since they almost all have axes for chopping. But if I didn’t have a limited list of items I’d definitely like to have a big fancy knife on me just because it’s more enjoyable to use
I would take my SCHF3N. Its tough as hell, and does everything I need it to do. A close second would Be the Condor Hudson Bay. Remember, you don't need to spend a pile of money to get a quality knife. Hell, back when, the older (preppers) woodsman made their knives from what was laying around. They didn't have the options we do today, and faced way bigger obstacles. Good video. Thanks!
But I TOTALLY agree. I am sure that Survivorman would outlast me with nothing, even if I had a ton of stuff lol. Mental toughness, knowledge, wisdom, and determination outweigh skills every time.
this was awesome!👍😎 I liked the contestants choices and yours! I would take the Alleghenyknifeworks m55 as my knife cause it's just a tank! and I can not wait to see your knife company! and hopefully I will be able to buy a superkhuk.
Very impressed with your knife knowledge and certainly appreciate your video on the Alone knives. The knife debate is analogous to space, limitless possibilities. Thanks a bunch. What I appreciate about the Alone series is the participants get to prove their opinions vs sharing them and certainly hope the show continues.
Thank you for the interesting video. My thought is that Greg has been a drywaller his entire adult life so he has a lot of experience working with knives and other tools. I'm sure his choice of knife will serve him well.
habilis srt would be the blade I would take on alone I have done so much with this blade from chopping banana trees down chopping cabbage pans for the hearts to feathersticks only time it leaves my side is when I'm in the shower
Great video. Of the knives that I have used it would be either between the ESEE-5 or the Browning FDX-686 (made by TOPS and is a modified version of the Tom Brown Tracker)
I would have brought a Cold Steel Tai Pan 8 inch dagger. That knife would have been the talk of the town, great for processing fish and it doubles as the end of a spear when boar hunting. Two edges are better than one.
What a great idea for a video. Well done, Jacob. I can't comfortably use a large knife for the myriad of smallish jobs called for around camp, and always carry it comfortably to boot. I wouldn't do well cleaning a fish with a large knife, etc. I'd likely go with the LTW Genesis or something very much like it. My Kephart is a jack of all trades and master of none, so it'd work nicely for that situation. The Genesis is a Kephart with a sharper point, which would be very handy for cleaning fish, smaller game, etc. Also, these knives are big and rugged enough to do enough batoning for the kindling, etc. to keep that ever important fire easier to start.
You should do one of these for each season!!!! Oh.....my choices are pretty limited but from what I own, I'd take a Cold Steel SRK-C......or a Buck 119. If I was to buy a knife for the show, I'd go with a Buck Selkirk.
It wil happen one way or the other! The difficult part of alone is the extremely limited gear and the extremely long duration. I do think the super khuk or something like it would be the go to. Maybe the gun slinger.
My Leatherman wave + with or without any modification with screw bit holder. And Coldsteel Letherneck . But If I allowed to have just 1 blade then I will close my eye and pick Mora Kansbol (even its not full tang , but it is amazing slicer and scandi grind very good in wood craft
no belt knife can do all that needs to be done. You also need the Cold steel shovel, modified to have a real saw edge, a Silky saw blade, to be held in the visegrip of the modified Leatherman Crunch mulitool. Those 3 tools give you all the needed potential. Get rid of the serrated blade, and replace it with a carbon steel regular blade, so that you can sharpen on a rock. You want 2 of the file blades, with flathead screwdriver ends, sharpened into chisel shapes. One of them should have a very fine knife edge. You need a scoop knife, which can be made out of the can opener. Dump the other screwdrivers and the bit driver, get an awl option.
I’m hesitant in trying kukri because they look like they’d be a challenge to sharpen opposed to a straighter edge knife. Especially in the field… think I’d have a harder time anyways. But never tried one so I can’t be sure….
I had to watch, you mentioned knives! The one knife I would probably have with me 100% of the time in the bush is my Kullcraven Bushpoint. I have others I REALLY love but that is a constant. Hey, when the Super Khuk goes back into production dont forget us wood handle and leather scabbard guys.
Id bring my becker bk 2 companion its still a smallish knife its made from 1095 cro van but its nice and thick and heavy and robust as hell u will never break a bk2 !
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors love your stuff brother and we def have very similar taste in knives. I have bought a few just off of your reccomendenation and videos!
Velvicut Council Tools 4lbs, Cold Steel Kukri, Victorinox Spirit. Maybe a medium knife too idk. I wouldn't take a fire steel. I'm better with a bow drill after winter and rain than a ferro rod ever. Three to four means of gathering food depending on location. A gill net on the coast, and extra knife else where. Maybe the shovel idk. Not needing a ferro rod leaves me with an extra option and an opening. I've taught over 1000 people to do the bow drill and it usually only takes me around 10 seconds once I start sawing away.
Man o man, so now having started your own knife company would your choice still be the same to take onto the show? Tell you what that dang super-kuk sure looks like a badass blade!
I think if i was really in that situation, i would rather have the multiple tools of a leatherman, and a thick kukri style blade that i could use as a hatchet. Then a large katana boy saw, it hurts not to take a fix blade but i really think they are not as useful!
Yes! I mean standard one around 4” even though thats the normal bushcraft size i feel you need a larger tool. The tool in this video is actually perfect
Great video, but I'd love to see links in the description. It was kind of tough searching for a couple of these manufacturers/knives - especially your #1 choice.
My prediction is that the winner of season 3 will have........a knife. It's not the knife but the user. I love the Super Khuk, great blade by the way. In the end it all comes down to the mental game, tools be damned.
Bravo 1 in cpm3v or cold steel master hunter in 3v or big knife would be terrava scrama which is 80crv2 or ontario sb53 bolo in 1075. If i had a $50 budget it would be the bushcraft black or jakarri pukko, both high carbon..
The genesis is the same knife Larry Roberts used but it's also offered in a full flat grind which is what we see this season. I think the genesis is an amazing knife and I have carried it every day since they first came out. I just ordered another one in desert ironwood handle and my son a next gen in desert ironwood.
ThePreppersBunkerOutdoors I don't mind a full flat grind, but I love my scandi genesis. That's why I ordered another scandi. My sons next gen is full flat grind because that's all it's offered in.
Of the knives I have now it would have to be Survive Knife GSO 5.0 but I like the weight of the ESEE 5 but it is a chuck of steel that can chop, prepare food, and do some wood work. I worry that I don't see any ESEE knives on the show. Are they a good enough blade to withstand the rigors of 3 months in the wild? If you make that Super Khukuri then I would be interested for sure. I am also looking into a Bradford 6 inch Knife with Micarta handles.
George Hicks in my opinion esee is certainly good enough for the show, I do find it interesting that you don't see any of their knives on Alone. at least not that I remember.
I just bought my first bark river and it was a Canadian special in cpm 3v. I have the lt wright genesis flat ground in 3v and its much thinner and has never failed. The bark river catastrophically failed instantly. Returned
What's the hump at the tip of your super kuk for? Just curious, also how would it do in mors khohanskie (no idea how you spell his name) test in that a knife should be able to carve a netting needle?
Shelley Raskin The hump serves two purposes, #1- it allows you to comfortably choke up to the belly of the knife for skinning, and #- creates more weight forward on the knife. I have no doubt that I could make a netting needle with it, and it may be the only blade that I can say that about, while being able to use it as an axe. if you would like to see more of the knifes capabilities, just youtube it. you can see a full description of the knifes design features and purposes.
Onix Pyro that it totally my goal. it's going to be a really, really hard goal to achieve though due to some logistical difficulties like handle scale side, blade shape, grind height, etc
i kinda want to buy the condor hd kukri. i know its got a thick grind but im good at thinning down edges so do u think its worth it. its kinda what i would bring
Keep Out hhhmmm, the Condor really does need thinning, but if ht was just a little bit off, it could end up disastrous. so I don't know for sure. the knife definately has a lot of potential.
no belt knife is versatile enough for this show. You only get 10 items, so having to take a big saw, axe, belt knife, and still having nothing with which to dig, clamp stuff or bend fishing arrowhead tines into fishhooks, or to straighten out a hook to make a sweing needled, or sharpen your chopper, or change the handle of your chopper, that's silly.
'Chopping and batoning...' How many people on Alone have you seen processing firewood with their knife? Zero! You don't need a knife that weighs as much as an axe / machete.
