This week’s lesson is called “Beautiful Practice” for a reason. Our exercise this week creates a lush harmony and texture all while working out our theory and technique at the same time

Frau Cap. You are an excellent teacher and clearly a master bassist. After recently coming back to music and the Bass after > 10 years I have found that one of the best things I have done to drastically improve my playing has been to lose my foolish pride (such a hinderance to learning things properly!), go back to the shed, play slowly and work on correcting bad habits I have accumulated since the early 1980's. I have already learned a tremendous amount from just a few your videos I have watched and your book. I plan on becoming a student soon (if you'll have me). I am very glad you didn't stick with the recorder! Vielen Dank.

My sad Consat has been sitting idle for days. I have been getting sucked into all the iPad tools available since I just bought a used iPad 4 - my 1st one. If you don't have the app. "Chord!" I seriously would check it out. It is the best 5 bucks I have ever spent.

Fret buzzy bass you got there. Got it on them triads. I do this with 7th chord arpeggios. Took a little work and a 5 string to get it. But first I had to get rid of my low set buzzy fret string height. I now roll all exercises on my high string bass. Try that. Serious work out. Great lesson lady bassist. 👍🏼

Just fantastic Ari you are such a good teacher and you teach the things that are really helpful not just fluff I'm trying to understand what it is you are playing to make it so melodic? I have downloaded the PDF and him playing the 3 notes in each measure going down but it doesn't sound as melodic as what you are doing it almost send sounds like your playing each measure ascending and descending is that what I am hearing?

Awesome lessons, I've just started watching ur stuff the last couple days. I like how u focus on technique and kind of show how to practice correctly. Which once u get this stuff down u can groove so much better. Lately I'm having trouble playing the lines and grooves I hear in my head, they don't come out the way I hear them in my mind. Any tips? I'm sure it's a tough topic to tackle but what can I do to develop this skill?
@wolfcomposer4853
@wolfcomposer4853 5 лет назад
that'd be a great topic for another video (I produce them together with Ari). here one starter exercise to build the inner hearing to bass connection: pick two notes - ply them until you got their sound in your mind. now imagine a short phrase using these 2 notes (can be less than 1 measure long) - hear it internally - then play it. repeat often. once that works well, use 3 notes and/or make the phrase a little longer - keep building.

Arianne great lesson as always! Quick question. on the accompanying pdf it goes pattern 3/area 3 to pattern 5 / area 5. typo?
@LearnBassWithAri
@LearnBassWithAri 7 лет назад
Hi Mahesh, it is not a typo, but I realize that it looks like one and that an explanation there would help. In my pattern system there is no pattern 4 because it is contained in pattern 3 already. There is also no pattern 7 (contained in pattern 1). I have a book coming out on this this year.

When we play the fifth at the bottom, the third in middle, and the root at the top (e.g. G E C), do we call it the 'first inversion' or the 'second inversion' of an open-voiced chord? (To my mind, it follows the pattern of first inversion, so that's what I call it. Am I correct?)
@wolfcomposer4853
@wolfcomposer4853 5 лет назад
the lowest note determines the inversion. so in your example, this is a 2nd inversion. The top note is sometimes called the position (not to be confused with the position on the neck = which fret the first finger plays), but it is independent of the inversion. in other words, the voicing on top of the lowest note does not change the inversion. a fifth of a triad as the lowest note will always be a 2nd inversion.

Thomas, it is all bass - it is a plug in that puts a sustain on certain notes and their over tones. Idea of my sound wiz.

hi Ariane, I am watching this video from Paris (france), I also downloaded the page showing the open positions for each chord. but I still have one question: in the example you play at the beginning, do you play every lowest note of each chord? because it is a bit difficult for me to catch since you play very fast. keep doing what you do on the tube, because i love your pedagogical style.
