Lex's mom took a vacation and came to visit us. During that vacation we sat down and had a conversation about some hot topics. This conversation was not meant to be a debate. It was more about giving you a peak into a different mindset and to give you an idea of Lex's origins.

Personal responsibility isn’t the answer because personal responsibility is relevant to the society, and not all societies are the same. A ghetto, for example, is a smaller society within a dominant society, and will have standards that run counter to the dominant society’s standards. To avoid the creation of smaller societies, such as ghettos, the dominant society should avoid segregating segments of its population. Unfortunately for America, that ship has sailed. The answer in my opinion is replacing the public school system with nationalized boarding schools.

I love the fact that the Mom can be honest with the fact that she feels one way and knowing that Lex and Brad feels a different way but she not going to let politics or anything else get between her and her loved ones. Everyone has there own options and she is open and honest about hers and I have a huge amount of respect for her. God bless her and the two of you also. My ancestors was brought to this country as indentured servants and worked their entire life as such and when they had children, they too was forced into servitude to help pay off their parents debt and they also worked their entire lives to pay it off to the family that held that note of debt and anytime anyone of my ancestors would get hurt and or need medical help that also was tacked onto the what their family owed. Eventually the grandchildren of the original indentured servants only got freed from the debt when they fought back and took their freedom because the family that held the note was never going to let them pay it off. I remember hearing stories about that from my great grandmother. My family originated from Ireland and the family that indentured them was from England.

As a Hispanic, I feel so pushed out of this so-called civil movement. It sounds as if the country is black and white and Hispanics are only used as pawns when it’s convenient then tossed aside. I look around and I went to the same schools and had the same advantages/disadvantages as lower income blacks did in my city/state. But that is completely ignored. I look around and I see others like me who worked hard and made good lives for themselves whether that was in blue collar jobs or through college…but it all depended on how determined people were to do the work. Being a minority and in the lower income bracket actually helped with college funding/loans and with small business owners getting loans. So I feel like the country’s image is being tarnished and distorted when it sounds like people are not helping themselves and taking advantage of what this great country has to offer…but then again, I’d say most of us minorities are doing better than we want to admit because it doesn’t help the agenda. ☹️
@toddhutchins2492
@toddhutchins2492 2 года назад
If you think about it, at least politically speaking, blacks are used as pawns for an election, and then tossed aside. I find it interesting that some people (not necessarily you) who think that white people are so privileged. The truth is that most people, whatever their race, have had to work hard to get to where they are. I paid for my own college. I joined the military and earned a poverty-level income. I've moved up the ranks from job to job. I've enjoyed my life. And really, isn't that really what we all want, to enjoy life. But you have to be willing to get yourself there. No one is going to hand it to you. Like the old saying goes... There is no such thing as a free lunch.

My Dad said to me when I was a 17 year old kid. Somewhat, to varied degrees, going through a period of youth based struggle. He just said, " Keep a cool clear eye on the wicked ways of the world. Look for those who bring positivity into your world and do good work." That's been my M.O. Now at age 57. I just feel that being altruistic. Driven by the core ideals of unity and love. Brad and Lex and other folks from the younger generation, please? Continue to spread the "good". We live in a place that sometimes feels irreparable,ie; The Divided States of America. But we all must keep United. In community, in faith and at the dinner table. Stay positive. Keep listening and keeping up with the music vibes. Peace and Love to you all.

Best comment Jamie so true! It's crucial to humanity that we stop looking at the color of skin just love everyone. I have two mixed children my daughter who is 40 said she does not feel like she fits in on the white side or the black side. It broke my heart that she feels like that. I taught her to love herself that skin color does not matter but what she see's is division and being mixed puts her in a separate group she said other's feel the same way. We all have the same DNA we are all brothers and sisters lets come together and not separate in groups against each other we are of one race. This is a deep subject it was done very well.

Couch Momma said something profound early in this video about bonding. We bond with people we have something in common with. For some this can be racial, but, for many, it is more about class and under what conditions you are raised. There are others who transcend racial or class systems and bond with people purely on emotional and intellectual levels. Who we bond with has everything to do with how we view the world.

Sad. I'm in my 60's and I'm glad my parents never told me that the color of my skin was going to hold me back. Too many tell their kids that they will never get a fair shake because they're Black and that's starting our kids out with a handicap. Of all the millionaires in the US, only 3% inherited $1 million or more. And of all inheritance in the US, only 21% of people inherit anything. Hard work, financial discipline, and saving are what we should be teaching. Unfortunately, too many spend their money on shit that don't matter, clothes, shoes, hair, ect..

Like your mom, I grew up in a heavily democratic backing household. My mom my dad my grandfather we’re all Teamsters, that should say what it needs to write there. My parents were what I would like to call that deep south democrat, they did view race far differently than I did. I went into the military, what I thought, and was told as a child, about Black people, was wrong. While in the Navy, I found some of my closest friends, or Black people. I grew to trust and depend on Black, Latino, Asian, and all everyone I served with. If you really want race relations to get better, everyone coming out of high school, go through boot camp, and let a chief petty officer, a gunny sergeant, or any other senior enlisted personnel trained you. I remember being called some of the most vile names you can imagine, but everybody was called those names. Thank you for bringing your mom on, as a 50 something myself, I really appreciate learning from people with different backgrounds than my own.

Black, white, the crap about WHITE PRIVILEGE, it's unnerving to point to name calling, prejudice, radical racism, I will tell "anyone" and stand up, and stand out and SAY---EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY PERSON...*-*-HUMANS*-*- HAVE SOME KINDA RACISM WITHIN THEMSELVES, AND ANYONE THAT DOESN'T KNOW OR BELIEVE THIS-- IS TOTALLY IN DENIAL, AND WILL CHOOSE TO TURN THEIR HEADS AWAY!! Throughout each of our lives we have been taught on how we should believe, what is the right way to talk, the wrong way, our parents, their parents and on down the long line of descendants it is pounded and ingrained into our minds about what we stand for, but more importantly, who we ultimately are and that being of a certain race we are Superior to all others!! I, just me, and me alone, ((AM DAMN PROUD OF MY RACE; AND WILL NEVER BE SORRY FOR MY "WHITENESS")) No one should ever be sorry about their color, race, and who they were born to be!! I have some racism in me, but it's an assortment of different races, or about how they may be, but I also recognize that I'm so very wrong in a lot of things I think about other races! We are a Nation full of different races, and colors. I do not care what your skin color is "PERIOD!!" I AM ONLY ONE PERSON HERE MAKING A COMMENT, BUT WHAT I SAY AND STAND FOR IS REALLY PRETTY SIMPLE. ((THERE IS GOOD AND BAD AROUND ALL OF US. IF WE AS HUMAN BEINGS WOULD JUST TAKE IN A DEEP BREATH, TAKE A SMALL STEP BACK, TAKE AHOLD OF OUR COMMON SENSE, AND THINK BEFORE WE OPEN OUR BIG MOUTHS, STOP WHATEVER WAS GETTING READY TO COME OUT IF OUR MOUTHS....STOP-THINK- AND ACT-REACT ACCORDING BEFORE WE SPEAK!! WE REALLY NEED TO STOP PLACING BLAME ON PEOPLES COLORS, MY GOD, ARE WE NOT BETTER THAN THIS?? FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, THIS RACIST B-O-L-O-N-G-A IS SO FREAKING OLD ALREADY!! CANT WE DO SO MUCH BETTER?? People would rather not have conflict and go with the flow than actually question why they're feeling the way they do. I share Brad's dream of seeing future generations move on from the color divide. Identity politics has taken us several steps back from the unity we all truly seek. In my opinion Brad has such a holistic view by putting himself in everybody else's shoes getting everybody else's perspective! The personal responsibility that y'all take is life changing! "no desire to put in the effort". Therein lies the crux of the situation. It's a first-world issue - or non-issue - imo. Self responsibility.

I remember a conversation that I had with my father about 25 years ago. He basically sounded like Lex's mother here (I am paraphrasing), but he basically said "I'm not even arguing that you're wrong. I can see your point of view. But I'm almost 50 and probably won't change my mind just because you want me to" lol. Be grateful every day that she's there to have these kinds of conversations! Things can turn on a dime.

Thank you for this video I think we need to keep talking about this without being scared of it because as a 41 year old white person I want to know how we can break through all the racism. I love all people that are kind period.
@tieman3790
@tieman3790 2 года назад
You fix racism by getting equal opportunity for everyone and time will do the rest. That means investing in poor neighborhoods. Those tend to be more populated by people of color. That's is how you fix it. Also a great way to reduce inequality is by becoming not car dependent. But for that a lot of money needs to be invested in infrastructure and i have lost hope that'll ever happen. Every state will just put asphalt on everything untill the entire country is bankrupt
@scratchpenny
@scratchpenny 2 года назад
@@tieman3790 I think we should focus on investing in poor individuals rather than neighborhoods. The old thinking of investing in physical neighborhoods and infrastructure might not be as realistic with the way technology is driving change. I think the next 50 years will drastically alter how people live. The days of a lot of physical travel and activity are numbered. Many people prefer their devices and artificial reality to the chaos of the natural world, which will only increase with the advancement of virtual technologies. People will still interact with the world and experience nature, but it will be far less than it used to be IMO. The transportation problem is going to be partially solved with technology. Self-driving tech is real, and it's already here. It just needs to be refined and made safe for everyday use. Combine that with the fact that people will work/live in virtual space more and more in the near future, and we are going to drastically reduce consumption/infrastructure needs per capita. That's part of what those entities like the World Economic Forum are planning with "Build Back Better." And that's why companies like Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all heavily investing in virtual reality/augmented reality technology. It's going to change the way people operate in the world, and it will require a lot less physical transportation. For example, I work in a remote business analyst job and drive a total of about 3500 miles per year. I used to drive 20,000 plus miles just a few short years ago. I've also saved about $3500 in new clothes, eating out, and fuel costs. It's a win-win for the environment and me.

My dad's been gone 5yrs now, I miss these conversations. Dad was a JFK/LBJ Democrat in his politics, however as a father teaching life lessons he was a mix of Reagan & Goldwater. When we would discuss our opinions periodically I would remind him that I hold these conservative-libertarian views in large part because of how he raised me, hard work, self-reliance, determination, cautious but afraid to take risks. He'd smile & give a chuckle, knowing I was right but refusing to concede due to his personal politics.

The more conversations everyone has like that, the sooner we all can understand and appreciate where we are. And ultimately where we want and need to go. Like anything else worth striving for, it’s always going to be uncomfortable to start, and will take a lot of hard work to achieve a desirable result....✌🏼✌🏿✌️✌🏾✌🏻✌🏽

@@memetherapy oh okay I was wondering. I’m on an iPhone, my laptop devices, and even my kids chrome didn’t show them. Then a lot of RU-vidrs have been talking about the dislike in gone now in their videos. I was wondering how you seen it. It was the first comment I read lately that could see them. Thanks for writing back. Yeah it was the one thing a lot of RU-vidrs was upset about because they said, “how can they know what to not post, or what to fix, etc if they took away what they can’t see.” It’s been frustrating a lot of people I see to please a certain few people. Thanks for telling me I was so confused on how you seen them when no one has seen them in days.

Brad you are a smart man. I grew up poor and didn't get anything for being what most would consider white. My wife and I worked hard and God willing have done okay. Race has played no role with what has happened in our lives. I grew up and have experienced my share of racism, however, I understand that not all people are racist. Keep up your understanding and thinking, work hard and take some chances. Good things will happen.

That point about politics dividing family hits home. I've had numerous family members (though thankfully it was mostly extended rather than immediate family) and close family friends I've known all my life completely excommunicate me and some other family members/friends over simple political differences. It astounds me how the simple ability to agree to disagree is such a dying concept for so many.
