Today we're telling you the story about how we got finessed for $19,000 by a con-woman. This also doubles as the story of how we ended up in a rundown, rat infested trailer that isn't hardly worth $19k. Grab some popcorn because it's scammed story time lol.

My wife has gotten me to live by the 24 hour rule. If people rush you and don't even give you a day, always walk away. It has saved me so many times.

My mom does this too! I'm so glad because I can be super naive, but I always try to think about how she would handle a sales situation. If there's immediate pressure, deal is off. Nice thing is--at least for goods like used cars--that immediate pressure is totally fabricated anyway.

@Stonlee Ames I totally disagree if I'm reading what you're saying correctly. If you aren't letting someone take time to fully inspect (esp high ticket items) it's probably because there's something to hide. Not the other way around. If a deal seems too good to be true it usually is. You may miss out on some crazy good deals this way, but you also miss 99% of the scams

@Stonlee Ames I have no idea what you're talking about, but it sounds like you're part of an MLM. And yeah you're absolutely right, I have no interest in direct sales whatsoever. It's not flip flopping to want to make sure your purchase is quality. That's the expectation if you have a lot of money to spend

That is the truth and God I ask my husband and tears one day why all these people with money are all these people that are criminals have to be so evil. And you said to me because people are born innately evil they have to be taught to have a moral compass and compassion for others and most of all love if they are not taught these things or experience these things in their life they will become evil. And that is truly heartbreaking

Just like the amount of money a jobless addict comes up with over the course of their addictions. A house, sure, a car, sure, a vacation, why not. People assume drug addicts and swindlers are lazy when its very much the opposite. To get what they need the way they need it is a long road

If we could all just learn to handle what knocks us down the way you've shown here, we'd get through this life a whole lot better! Oh, and Brad saying he would trade in what he learned in college before he would trade what happen to you because he learned more for less money ~ that's golden! Thanks so much for being who you two are! ❤

Predators can smell vulnerability and desperation on people, especially when it’s compounded by youth and inexperience. So sorry that happened to y’all. That’s one hell of a series of learning experiences, and I have had some of my own when I was much younger. I think the most important lesson that everyone can take from this is that when you find yourself in a vulnerable position and you’re looking for an immediate solution, that’s when it’s imperative to fight that feeling of wanting to drop your guard and act quickly. You have to take a breath and resolve to be patient and make due diligence an “always thing” and never a “sometimes thing,” especially when money or safety is involved. Thank you sharing that that other people can avoid similar situations.

@SilverbladeDagger

My dad was a landlord of several rental properties from 1985 to 2016. His problem was being too nice, and some tenants took advantage of him big time. We had some good tenants, who took care of the properties, but the ones who were insane almost completely undid all the good that we got from the good tenants. The last tenant refused to pay her rent, or couldn't, so tried bartering things in exchange. Well, my dad went along for a month or two, but she kept trying to do it. She wouldn't answer her door, even though we knew she was home and could see her moving around. She wouldn't answer the phone, she was seriously ducking us. I lived next door in my dad's other rental property, and was there mainly to protect the property, do maintenance like lawn care and etc, and also manage both properties for him. She put up "No Trespassing" signs... on our property as if she owned it, and threatened to call the cops if we "got on her property". Well, he who owns the deed owns the house. She got the house red tagged while kicking her son out for being a d'mass and was living in the garage, and in the process of that, we got the cops there, and they went into the house. The poor officer had to get out and wear a mask just to breathe! She literally turned a beautiful old house into a shit hole. They let loose pit bulls in the house for months, preventing us from going in. Which we should have called animal control before that escalated, but didn't. The dogs ATE THE PVC PIPES. I mean, they ate and pooped out PVC drain pipes for the kitchen sink. They dug holes right through the bathroom floor, and the lady left the water to run in the bathtub not only for the dogs to drink, but also to rot the floor. They jury rigged the power box as well. We finally got them all out, but what they left behind was crazy, and you wouldn't believe the pictures I have. Needless to say, she skipped out on over $10,000 of back rent, the judge practically gave that to her. We were left with 10s of thousands of dollars worth of damage, from a hole in the ceiling where that fatass fell through it from the attic, to old polished oak floors being destroyed by doggy diarrhea, doggy claw marks, water damage, etc. The dogs literally wore out the pattern on the linoleum with their claws, so that the only place you'd see it was around the edges of the kitchen near the walls! In the end, my dad was fed up and defaulted it back to the back. A few months later, I moved out of the house next door, and while the house was perfectly fine, my dad defaulted on that house too. He was absolutely done with bad tenants, city tax creep, the bad neighborhood that used to be decent when we got the properties, all of it. There are more stories I could tell of other tenants, but this one was probably the craziest, and I don't think I even told 1/4 of the entire saga!

"she stole the bail bondsmans car" Thats one of the funniest things I've ever heard! That's someone going down in flames! Sounds like you ran across an actual sociopath. People that have never been in the lower income bracket don't understand that it's not just the lack of money or resources that make things hard, it's the fact that what comes with being without much money is that you are in a situation where you are surrounded by predators, sociopaths and psychos.

The last 30 years of my life 20 was married to someone with zero conscience, but still managed to put my family in a nice 1800 sq ft home and good school system. When all graduated, booted this person to the curb. Im now in a completely paid for mobile home on an acre in another state just trying to keep my head straight at 60. All selling moving etc in less than a year. Those people can really change your view of others (trust) Watch your back and continue to do the right thing. I feel for you. He lied about where he was from, his family, his education, everything. The last I heard about him he had duped his best friend out of a few thousand pounds. I’ve also dated a guy who pretended to be the nicest person, and as soon as he had me in a situation where I couldn’t easily leave he turned into a completely different person. You’ve told your story without looking for sympathy and I think that together you will be happy and successful in whatever you do. Mistakes are meant to be learned from. Wishing you a Happy and prosperous New Year 2022 💕

he main thing I got from this video... In todays world of "You don't make me Happy anymore", You two are an inspiration. You kept loving on each other, supporting each other and sticking out the experiences together... I n 'todays' world, that alone is a huge accomplishment and success! This video was also giving a very good message...but what was not said...was even better. Keep on grinding. You two are Awesome people!

Brad & Lex are going to do just fine. Anyone who can be so brutally honest with themselves (and us) about their mistakes is very unlikely to ever repeat them. Plus, they took their experience and turned it into one of the best videos on RU-vid.

Just went through this myself, starting to recover now and after you can always see the signs clear as day. I didn't lose as much as you but it was still thousands from my ex, we all make mistakes. Love your videos and wish you both the best!

You guys are 100% an inspiration. Rome wasnt built in a day. all of this is to prepare you for the day u 2 can build "your Rome". Keep being yourselves and being proud of what u have and have accomplished. Sometimes a little goes a very long way

It's good that your experience was so short and that you learned A Life Lesson so quickly. This is absolutely true and not a joke, I want you to know how lucky both of you are. My little brother is bipolar, a narcissist, a sociopath, he is violent, and a three-strike felon. We have had to deal with his abuse for a lifetime. The blessing is he has just been arrested by ATF, the US Marshal and the Davie Police Department. Hopefully he will go on a very long vacation for the rest of his life and the state a Florida can deal with him from now on. God willing, my sister and I deserve an extremely long break from him.

I totally understand. During the Great Recession I owned a small graphic design/marketing business. Long story short, a con man on federal parole was running a scheme on some NASCAR drivers, “went into business” with me and eventually took me for $40k, destroying my life. The feds busted him, but the money was gone.

I love your message, and y'all even more after seeing this! You two are solid people that seem perfectly matched❤️ I'd like to add to your message: Don't make any major decisions while you are grieving. And a tip for you two- don't let anyone harsh your mellow, sadly there are some people that resent happy people. They point to and accuse others to make themselves feel better. Thank y'all for keeping it real!

Smaller things make people bitter all the time. I've been avoiding watching this video for awhile because, I think you guys are awesome and, I didn't want to feel bad for y'all. Turns out, I feel better about the bad things that's happened to me. Keep putting out that positive energy. The world needs more of that. 🖖

She's not crazy - she's a con artist and grifter. Reminds me of my friend Lou Pearlman (who I mentioned on one of your Simon & Garfunkel reactions) who was already successful but also running a Ponzi scheme that ripped off $300 MILLION from investors. Sometimes it's not just about the money. but also the thrill of getting away with it.

First warning for a person being a psychopath....charm, like way more charm than you'd usually show a stranger and pushing an appearance of huge success from the get go. Then its the speed with which they try and get you to do what they want...huge redflag. But they're subtle, come in a wide range of types...but gravitate to jobs that rely on sales skills. Not all sales and marketing people are psychopaths...but it's a position they can operate under the radar from, as they're perfectly suited to doing the job well, so no one spots the shady stuff going on behind the scenes

I ended up in the same boat - bought an old trailer that turned out to have far more problems than the seller let on - and then found out the seller didn't have a title. But, the owner of the trailer park was facilitating sales of trailers (for a cut, I presume). So I called the local prosecutor about being sold a titled item (car, boat, trailer) without a title - and was told that was definitely a crime. So I called the trailer park owner and threatened to have her prosecuted for fraud if she couldn't produce a title, and also said I would be calling the tv news 'troubleshooter' to publicize their schemes. A few days after i contacted the D.A. they actually called me back and said they would not prosecute the claim (that they acknowledged was fraud) and I'd have to pursue a civil case - I kept that little bit of judicial negligence to myself, and ended up getting a refund and walking away.

Always guard the nest egg. Luckily you're young and optimistic, you can take a few hits like the one you've been through and rebuild. My advice to you (having been there in another way) is slow and steady in all things, patience always. You have only so many disasters you can absorb and you won't know when you have used them up till it's too late. So go slow, guard that nest egg and keep adding to it. May God bless and keep you well. Happy New Year.

I know how you feel, we got fleeced for around $30,000 with a time share in Las Vegas . We don't live in the US , we were there on holiday. Finally managed to GIVE it back to them so that we weren't paying Maintenance fee's every year.

Omg... I know a guy just like that... he used to be a friend of mine. Years later, I had a manager that was getting evicted from her place... turns out, it was this guy I used to know that she was renting it from... but he didn't own the place. He was also just renting it, and wasn't paying the rent.

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune, and I can certainly empathize. I too fell victim to deceit, probably around the time your two were born. I bought what I thought was a neat little "house" that turned out to be two single-wides put together, remodeled, with a roof build on. The owners knew and arranged for the building inspector, land surveyor, title clerk, property assessor, and the homeowner's insurance agent, hence nobody ever disclosed the truth of the property to me. I was naive and trusting. I was still in the military and had only been living in this country for about seven years. I closed on the property the night before going on a more than a month-long deployment. They were still living in the house, waiting to close on their new property, so I let them stay for free. I felt almost guilty because they told me that they were barely breaking even on the sale. Turns out that they acquired the property in a total auction for pennies on the dollar and tripled their money with me. I learned the truth about the actual "house" when the insurance company canceled my homeowner's policy because they did not insure "mobile homes". Moreover, I was supposed to have bought 12.8 acres, yet, when they had their guy survey the property for my title they apparently changed the property line and cut out two acres without disclosing it to me. I ended up with a property worth about $25,000 less than what I owed on it. My property also happened to be in a flood zone and upon returning from my deployment I found all the land, except the house under a foot of water following a particularly bad El Nino that spring. Lessons learned. You both are truly beautiful souls. Good luck with your lawsuit and God bless you two.

Holly crap, sounds like a former friend of mine who had a serious mental breakdown after a severe case of postpartum. She tailspinned out of control essentially becoming a grifter floating between Florida & Myrtle Beach, SC. She eventually fled to Missouri oddly enough... As far as anyone who knew her she had no ties to Missouri. Not sure where she is now. She's originally from Philly/South Jersey & in her early 40s, has twin daughters in their 20s one of which followed her down this awful path, the other has been trying to stay clear of it but sometimes gets caught up in her mother & sister's crazy life.

So I've been watching your reactions for a while now, and I came away with the impression that while Lex might be more spontaneous and in the moment and perhaps lead with her heart, Brad was more analytical, calculating, trying to understand what's going on, and all the other 'after' characteristics in the song 'Logical'. So I'm surprised to hear that he wasn't more skeptical and didn't put the brakes on what this scammer was doing to you. I mean there's naive, but jeez guys, that was eyes wide shut.
