Talks for Thought is a web-based talk-series, through which we aim to bring stories, ideas and opinions from around the country to our students and the people of the region. Education is a collaborative process and engaging people of all ages and backgrounds is essential to this process. We hope to achieve such engagement through these talks.

Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan IAS
Currently serving as the Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission, he has previously served as District Collector of Tirupur District; Director of Tamil Nadu Institute of Urban Affairs and Commissioner of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation among others, all within the first ten years of joining the Indian Civil Service. He has written over 8 books in both Tamil and English including "Oru Kallil 13 Mangai" and "Once upon an IAS exam". His insight into the subject and wisdom is sure to enlighten any listener.

The crux of the quote can be interpreted to emphasize the very essential human need for purpose, to undertake any pursuit. So, before we teach anything to students, it may be essential that they know why they are taught anything at all in the first place. “Go to school” in the title can be meant broadly as learning or educating oneself, as today schools are expected to be and have largely even become the most important centres for the holistic development of children and young people. This wisdom can enlighten parents and adults in general too, as education and schooling has today, fortunately so, become an everyday affair in the lives of all people. By exploring this topic we hope to clarify the many misconceptions of education that plague many people, causing them to have false expectations and unwarranted discontent.
