-Learn to make soap using cow's milk and tallow. A simple cold-process soap recipe and tutorial. Milk and Tallow both add wonderful moisturizing and nourishing properties to your soap. The milk amount is 10.23 oz and the sodium hydroxide amount is 4.58oz. You could also substitute water in for the milk.

Thanks Jenn for the great recipe! Just a thought, you can put your jar of frozen milk cubes in an ice bath while dissolving the lye. This lowers the "burning" of your milk and it will be whiter. It's just an aesthetic thing

I get beef suet from the grocery store and render it myself; after rendering twice it is almost odorless. When my soap is done there's no scent unless I add it. It really makes nice soap, and body butter 😉

Thank you for sharing your recipe. Did you use milk from your farm? How much milk and lye did you use? We have a small herd of grass fed cows that I will be rendering tallow from. Headed over to watch your video on rendering tallow.

Yes, I used milk from our cow! I would recommend straining some of the cream off the milk and using as that seems to want to burn in the sodium hydroxide. If I were to add honey to the recipe, maybe around 1oz, would that affect the hardness of the soap at all? Looking to follow a recipe similar to this with a honey lemon scent

There are a few things to consider when adding honey. One is that the extra sugar along with the milk could make the batch very hot. Here is a great article on adding honey to soap. You would need to run that change through a lye calculator to make sure the lye amount doesn't change before you substitute it.

What is a good substitute for the coconut oil? I have a life threatening allergy.

From what I've read coconut oil is pretty unique. The closest substitute would be babassu. I don't know anything about that oil as I haven't used it. You would need to redo the recipe and change it out in a lye calculator to see how you need to adjust the lye amount.

Babassu is a very skin nutrient oil but expensive. I've used it and loved it. Can't afford it often!

Hi!!! I have a friend that asked me if I could make soap using her breast milk. Do you think I could replace cow’s milk in your recipe for human’s milk? 🤣

I have a book on soapmaking with milk and she states that yes you can use human milk to make soap. It is higher in fat than cow's or goat's milk. It also contains a lot of sugar, and vitamins A,C, D and E. Follow the basic instructions as you would for any other milk soap. Freeze the milk first and keep the superfat below 10%
