I watched your video and was certain that these can't be healthy from all I've read about in my biochemistry and physiology classes in college. Turns out what they used to teach in college was based on a study that can't be considered of much use any longer and the general stance about sat fats is they're not bad for you. So thank you! I guess I need a refresher in this subject.
My understanding is that Tallow and Lard were not actually used in the cartridges issued to the Sepoys. It was simply a pervasive rumor which nonetheless enraged many men who were already disgruntled with British rule.
I can corroborate the statement about horses. At the ranches I've known, a call to the local tallow company was made whenever one passed away. It was the easiest and most practical way to deal with a body that weighed over half a ton; they'd come with a truck and take care of everything.
I have horrible news for you. Actually they sent your horse to a rendering plant in which is was de-boned, ground and mixed with the ground remains of other slaughterhouse rejects, euthanized household pets such as dogs or cats, and dead animal livestock. Sorry
Just the other day I was watching someone else making pemmeccan, and they mentioned tallow. I was like, wtf is tallow? Lo and behold, very next day, lord of the random wants to teach me aaaaaall about tallow!
Where from the we are mostly of German Decent and we use a similar thing called Rattentalg. Or a cheaper Kanalrattentalg. But if you got the money you can get the the premium stuff like Streifenhornchen talg.
