As a movie fan and a lover of all things classic Hollywood, I absolutely love and admire Judy Holliday. What a lovely and talented human being with a talent for showing innocence and vulnerability. I love her

Groucho and Tallulah and Judy, oh my! Such a harmonic convergence of talent, style, and class will, unfortunately, never be duplicated by today's sadly lacking personalities.

This is INDEED a treasure! The way our MovieStars( I call them stars cause indeed that's what they all were in their own right) they spoke with such elegance. But what gave me chills was Tallulah's Intro for the one and only Ms Ethel Barrymore. For Judy to break her charater tells you she was INDEED ONE OF THE GREATS. Such a shame this is was the GOLDEN AGE of Movies and we dont have that in todays time.

Just when I thought I'd heard everything, along comes this fantabulous clip. The beefing about who should have won the prize that year will go on, but this is a great, good natured ribbing of the Oscar race. Bankhead was a natural to pop the balloon of pomposity that often accompanies the Academy Awards. True, Davis and Swanson were at their apex in the Channing and Desmond roles, but it's a mistake to overlook the comparatively quiet, brilliant metamorphosis that Holliday brought to Billie Dawn. It's not easy for a real-life near-genius to be convincing as a tart. She earned that Oscar, man.

That was great! Thank you so much for having it here. Wish all 3 could have won that year, all for their inimitable talents. Favor Davis because I've sen the film 10 times more often than the other two, both of which I've seen only once. Holliday was always a delight in the 10 or so movies she made, whereas Davis sparkled in maybe half a dozen, 2 of which were by Wyler. In the end, the Academy Awards have been given to too many people who were not worthy, thereby just about making null and void the honor intended - (Charlton Heston, the support players in West Side Story; and never a win for Stanwyck or Grant??!! Not to mention never even a nomination for Edward G. Robinson or Myrna Loy or someone as steadfast and consistent as Joseph Cotten. Okay, enough belly-aching from me.) Holliday was a classic. Thanks again, dahling.

Enjoyed that. Judy had a genius IQ and felt that the dumb character held her back. So funny and sweet.

That was a tough year Bette Davis, Gloria Swanson and Judy Holliday were all fantastic it would have been great had there been a three way tie!
@poetcomic1

Bette or Gloria WOULD have either won if Anne Baxter did not insist on entering herself in the starring awards rather than supporting. She said the movi'e's title 'All About Eve' made it clear she was a star in the movie. Since she had NO chance to win it is a shame she spoiled a come-back Oscar for either Bette or Gloria. I have never thought it is fair for that an actor got an Academy Award for a role they performed 1,000 times on Broadway and had a chance to fine tune every nuance with a live audience. Another example is Anne Bancroft who did countless performances of The Miracle Worker with her movie co-star Patty Duke. They win a Tony for the stage performance and an Academy Awsrd for the movie

@@poetcomic1 Anne Baxter was more lead than Davis in AAE… Also, just because the character is old/new and practiced 100 times before, it doesn’t make it less deserving… The award should be given on the merit of the performances and Judy’s fabulous performance deserved the win…

@@gauravw6947 agree. The movie was not titled, " All About Margo." Anyway, I was more intrigued with Ann Baxter's role as Eve. Her character was fascinating. Bette was all camp, but watching Eve slowly shedding her skin like a snake to reveal her true self was a treat to watch. Baxter indeed deserved to be in the Best Actress category.

@joycedgeworth On the set of "Lifeboat", the actors had to climb a ladder up to the water tank for the sea scenes. Tallulah was constantly reprimanded by Hitch for not wearing any underwear and distracting his crew. God Bless Miss Bankhead.

Not so true... "Born Yesterday" is a part of many film and literature classes. Unlike the other 2 films, this is about self-respect and love - rather uplifting at the time that the House Un-American Activities Committee was beginning to create such a stir.... There's often irrational anger pointed at Holliday because she beat out Swanson and Davis. As the director George Cukor pointed out, the comedic subtleties of Judy Holliday are pure genius - and you have to watch carefully to catch them.

Tallulah is jealous that she wasn't even considered for the part of margo,who she says Bette imitated her. BS! Other than Lifeboat,what else did she do? Bea Arthur had an encounter with Tallulah some years back. Two words Bea said,You B***h!

Like many actresses of that era, you were either a star on stage or in films. Bankhead had many hits on Broadway and in the West End. And her radio show was very popular. She did both comedy sketches and scenes from dramatic plays on the air.

Ms. Bankhead wasn’t wrong though, Ms. Davis’ performance seemed to be an imitation of Bankhead’s image…
