I’ve spent most of my adult life at sea and I think that Tally Ho is one of the most meticulously built vessels I’ve ever seen. Part of me think it should be in a museum to show future generations how to build the perfect boat but In my heart I know she has to go to sea.

Dear @alanhenderson9092 👍👌👏 Almost exactly what I almost always think and also already commented. Tally Ho should be in a museum to show people how it can be done if excellent craftsmen do it. I'm shocked how much wear and damage for instance Arabella already took and I simply don't want it to happen to Tally Ho. On the other hand: Of course I want Leo to be happy. And without sailing Tally Ho, he will not be happy. At least I guess so. Best regards, luck and health in particular.

The modifications have created a few problems, notably the tight tolerances at the heel of the bowsprit created by adding a second Sampson Post. Since the original capstan is going to be reinstalled the run of anchor cable and lines might make an interesting five minutes.

"Bob, you're about to be all of our uncles".... "You know what they say... Third Time unlucky... Fourth time the charm"... All joking aside, that bowsprit turned out to be a beautiful hunk of historic timber. The fact that it has a story as old as Tally Ho just adds to the story.

As A Fan of your project , I have really enjoyed Learning along with those like me , what it takes to be A Boat Builder !!! I would have never realized how difficult and detailed it is to build a boat like Tally Ho from The Ground Up !!! Every time i watch a new video I learn More and More , and CAN NOT WAIT for Tally Ho to Finally Sail !!! Don`t ever stop being who you are , you have brought The Craft of Boat Building to A Lot of people , and somewhere there are people who will want to do what you and the people who have helped build Tally Ho , have done !! You undoubtedly have Inspired Younger People to Start A Venture like you have !!! Keep It Up Leo !!!! Your The Best !!!!!

I think this series of videos is of significant historical importance. I think copies of the entire series, when completed, should be put on quality hard drives and lodged with sailing museums around the world. You can basically build a traditional sailing bot by watching these videos...!!! It only takes Elon Musk to buy RU-vid and destroy it to upset the woke libs and its lost... The half life of digital information on the internet is 4 years.

Hey Bob! That's how it's done! Good job! As a 40+ year carpenter, I have always held to the concept that you can always take a bit more off, but you can't put it back on! Here in Australia and New Zealand, it was customary to use Oregon Pine (Douglas Fir) beams around 15” by 5” as the mounting for sheep-shearing shed shaft-drives. Every old shearing shed in Australia and New Zealand has these beams in them - thousands of them. They would mostly be over 100 years old now. Beautifully seasoned and of the highest quality. Shaft-drive systems are no longer made for sheep-shearing, so the beams are becoming obsolete as the systems wear out. Hundreds of shearing sheds are abandoned now, complete with shaft-drives and beams.

Well Done Maties!!!!!! You can't beat Douglas Fir. Our house is 75 yrs old. All of the framing is Doug Fir. It was a "kit" house and assembled by an established contractor who built it for his own family. An interesting thing I've found is ever piece of wood I've had chance to look at is stamped with a "part no. and name". The most incredible fact: The ceiling joist (2x8's) are one piece. That makes them 28' long. Yep, 28' long. The house frame is 28 X 56.
@afewdeer6627

Thumbs up to Bob. It's a lot harder to put wood back than it is to remove it. "Sneaking uo" on something with a precise fit is something that is often needed in a number of crafts. The entire boat is like a giant piece of fine furniture and the practice is not unheard of in that trade either. Great job!

Watching how the team builds around Leo, gains confidence, some of the members learning new skills and all of them growing to become a real tightly knit little boatbuilding team, is the best thing about this Tally Ho project, besides the obvious 'Have wood - want boat' thing, where we can enjoy how beautifully pieces of wood come together to become this wonderful craft. If you're interested in some wood-related science, I recently was studying the subject. Ring size is a useful medium for historians, generally enlarging with temperature. Warmer years mean faster growth. The age of sail is entirely within a period called the "Little Ice Age." Temperatures were around 4℃ lower than today. If global temperatures to continue rising, and we continue current deforestation rates, we can expect such nice, tight-grained woods to become quite scarce and valued indeed.

I surmise that many and probably most here don't know just how hard it is to achieve such a remarkable degree of perfection in the varnish finish on the bowsprit. As with so many of the other steps in Tally Ho's rebuild there are many opportunities to get it wrong. Leo and the guys get it right. I'm shaking my head in awe and admiration.

In the PNW in the 1800's to early 1900's, some of the trucks had one tree on them instead of many. The Douglas Fir back then was old and had dense wood grain, nice and straight. So cool you have a history in the Bow Sprit. Only fitting for her. Nice work!!!. Those guys working on the finish looked like they were working on their own Bow Sprit, attention to detail, very good.

And look at her now: birght and shiney, with all the bells and whistles but built rather traditional- what a ride it was to get here. And the cake for the most awsome guy goes to (drumroll plz): The sawyer who provided the white oak, he even had a poem to go with. If You would have chosen not to document this journey I would have never, ever seen such originals. In Germany we say: "Alles Gute und immer eine handbreit Wasser unter dem Kiel!".

Been watching this project from the start, I have to say I have been mostly impressed by the team you have assembled, their work is second to none, and this high quality has been maintained throughout. The cherry on the top of course is yourself Leo, who has managed, and run this project impeccably. 👍👍👍👍😀

Well done Saltheart! We have a saying on our Texas ranch: “Don’t stop till you smell $@:+ and hear breaking glass”. Y’all managed the bowsprit without either!

You can really appreciate TallyHo's size when her bowsprit looks like other boat's main masts.

Simply brilliant using F.M. Song as you are brilliant re-building enhancing a wooden jacht.

A really suspenseful episode building up to appropriate comic relief! Thanks to everyone involved! I had to laugh out loud several times. And, of course, in the shaping, painting and mounting of the bowsprit we get to witness the admirable workmanship that regulars to this channel have come to expect.

Finally Tally Ho’s work is feeling like boat work. I mean taking like four times the time you first estimate. 😂

@Samps-onBoat_Co Bloody brilliant actually. What you have achieved is truly unexpected and extraordinary in all repects, I imagine you feel this too. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this, your channel has become an important and intrinsic part of my life. I look forward to every episode knowing that it's going to be fun, inventive, interesting and informative. You ARE a sailor and a boat builder but I think your future may lie in video/ film presentation. Up to you of course, but I think, unlikely as it sounds, your best may be yet to come and I for one, look forward to it. Your inate quality of leadership will take care of that my friend, if I may presume the term. Love from an old man in Portugal, also a boat owner, occasional sailor, bike rider, former hang glider designer/manufacturer and studied reprobate.

I'll be 91 in April, and have been watching since you started thin thread. Not sure if it will ever float. Most of the other sail boats have already been lanched . I thing the sault and tar is the best one so far, but most have done well so far. As for the quality of construction this thake the cake as a musem quality project which hasd got out of hand. The cost must be in the millions. I do wish you well, after all I have alote of time ivested. Gramps
