Tamiya Blitzer Beetle Build and Beach Run

I took the Blitzer Beetle on vacation to the beach with us recently, I had planned this since the end of last year! Other than a paint issue and a small problem with leaving one key item at home it was a great time and well worth the wait. I loved driving it on the beach but I know for next year to take a built one down with me so I can go out and play right away and not wait until the car I’m building is complete!!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

It was so windy out all you could hear was wind noise and muffled sounds. I do have a wind block for the camera mic now but sadly no beach trip this year..

I wish I was able to leave the sound up higher but the surf was very loud. It made cool sounds when it slid on the sand sometimes. Almost like tires squealing on hard braking! Went with the beach music instead of the constant roar of the aurf

Sorry, but I really had to smile at your video. The story sounds exactly like what would happen if I tried to take a kit with me on vacation. Of course I've thought about it a few times. In addition, we do not spend our holidays in my home country and it would be almost impossible to quickly order things via Amazon. In any case, things turned out well for you. The car wasn't perfect but it turned out very well and the pictures from the beach are really great. I hope you were still able to enjoy your vacation.

It all worked out and the beach run was worth it all. Next year I will triple check that I have everything, take a running car down with me and also make sure the painting is all done well before I leave!!! It was a wonderful relaxing week down at the beach and I really want to be back!!! Glad you enjoyed it and could laugh along with me, I had to!!

Goodness, I enjoyed you rambling about your 35 layers of paint, the lost remote, the whole thing! You're a cool guy, except you don't go out in the sun much, but I guess it has to do with colour of your beard, ha ha! But as you showed, fun on the beach can be other stuff than tanning. That was great footage of a great looking buggy, lovely tunes with it, good times! I'm happy it all panned out for you, lovely little beach vacation, with RC car!

LoL, yeah us red heads do not do well in the sun very well at all!!! It was a blast out driving on the beach and it got rid of all the hiccups and frustrations from the paint and my dumb self leaving the controller at home! It was great fun watching it sling sand all over the beach and we all had a great time laughing and watching it! I am glad you enjoyed it and could laugh along with me for mistakes made!

Dude, you don't know how annoyed I was with myself about forgetting to pack the controller!! I am sure it has happened to many but I had to laugh it off and after some very nice ladies at the local post office saved it from getting sent back for me we were in business! It was such a blast out slinging sand, it was just as I imagined it was going to be!! So next trip, bring the radio and triple check all required items are loaded and pre-paint everything well ahead of leaving!!! Lessons learned!!!🤣🤣🤣

Thanks, the sprue goo is an old modeler trick I learned from someone else years ago. Just let it dry for a couple days as the glue needs to fully cure out of the plastic. It is a fun buggy and I am looking forward to more fun on the track with it!

Believe me, I know the feeling all too well!!! There are at least 4 days a week I see something I really want to get but really don't need to get and know it, still doesn't make it any less desirable!!! The beach run was super fun and next to the sand scorcher I think this is one of the most appropriate for a beach drive!!! One day I'll have the scorcher too. It is still at the top of my overall list of ones to get! Sorry/not sorry to add the extra buying pressure on you! We all do it to each other!!!

Thanks!! It was a great, relaxing trip! We are back to the real world now. I wish we lived closer to the beach to be able to runs like this more often! I did learn one good lesson, well two really.... Triple check all the stuff before driving 5 hours from home and take a built one with me next time. Waiting most of the week to drive on the beach was too long!!!

Believe me, it was a really long wait!!! When I got it I had to stick it out of sight to keep from opening it!! It was a fun build and one heck of a great time running it on the beach!! It is a really cool car.and I already want another to customize!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you! It turned out great and the drip stickers really saved me from the fractured paint!! Lessons learned for sure! I need to let the sprue goo dry for a few.more days before painting, I need to triple check all my gear before driving 5 hours from home without a radio and I need to take a built on down with me next time to drive while building the other!!! The beach drive was all worth it and we all had fun watching it sling sand all over the place!!

Thanks!!! The secret to the great paint scheme is the decals!!! 😂 Basically paint it all black, then paint the chrome around the windows and then the rest of the body is all stickers that come with it. They make us all look like expert painters!! I appreciate you watching and commenting and please don't take me seriously, 1000% just being silly. The decals/stickers really do make it look amazing!! A few are kind of tricky to apply but totally worth it!!!

Great video Adam. I love this. The first sound tract made me think you might be going "somewhere" that is copyrighted. Thanks for showing off the blitzer beetle. You know you started something, when you go on vacation this year you will need a kit to build, and preferably a transmitter as well.

Thanks Shawn!! I tried to find beachy sounding tracks for it! They do sound a bit similar to each other at times, thankfully this came from the RU-vid music center so no worries there! I am trying to figure out what kit to take with me on vacation this year.i want something that is going to be fun in the sand but also easy to build and paint as well. I may have to pre-paint the body and just focus on the build and having some fun driving it at the beach!! Yes, the transmitter and all other gear will be triple checked before departing this time!! 😂

The Blitzer Beetle is made for the beach! Drives beautifully on soft sands with those wide wheels. Kudos to you for going the extra mile with the body work. It turned out great. I really like the lava lamp decals on this RC. It’s one of the funkiest box arts from Tamiya.👍😊 Thanks for sharing RC content even while you were away on holiday! Hope you had a good one.🍻

Thank you, it is one I have wanted for a while and when I did I knew it had to be the beach build! I had a great time building it on and off throughout the week and the drive on the beach was perfect! We were all out there laughing and enjoying watching it so its thing! I agree it is the perfect environment for the buggy. I just wish I lived closer to the beach to do it more often!!

Thanks, the stickers did help hide the paint fractures on the sides of the sunroof. I'll take it and call it a win!! I was running that car on the beach if I had to tie a string to it like an old control line car!! Thankfully Amazon and a couple very nice ladies at the local post office and I was able to drive it properly!! It was a blast and I had been looking forward to it since I ordered it at Christmas time!!

Thanks Andy! I had to pair some beach themed music to the run, it felt wrong otherwise! It was a great vacation and running it on the beach was as much fun as I knew it would be! The clean up was also as messy as I expected too! I forgot to put the after pics in the video but it was covered in sand all over!!!

Been thinking of doing one, I am almost finished with my lunchbox black edition. If I did a blitzer beetle I would go with a brushless set up and 2S Lipo. 😂😂. Nice running video here Adam. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

It would be a ripper one a brushless set up!! It is a really nice buggy and a fun one to build. The chassis was straight forward and did not take too long. The body took forever but that was me being dumb and trying to rush things! You are gonna love driving the lunch box around. It is instant smiles and it's bouncy, bobbly nature just makes it enjoyable to watching driving around!

Wow, she looks great man!! Love it!! I recently took my Beetle out an made a video too though it wasn't as cool as yours. I still need to paint and install my driver. I also decided to leave the flames off mine and keep mine gloss black. I also added LED lights to the top and added a cheap brushless kit. I really like the Beetle's speed on a 4300kv 2s setup.

They really can fly on brushless power! I had bought this probably 4 or 5 months prior to going to the beach to make it the build I did down there and it was the perfect car for the sand! Only thing that would have been better would have been paddle tires so maybe next year is the Sand Scorcher... I haven't figured it out yet! I have seen many custom paint jobs on these and they always look great and I am sure the all gloss black looks great as well! O thought about adding a set of lights to it but got totally distracted by other things as usual! Thanks for checking it out and I will have to get over and take a look at your running around!

@@AddamsPlayground if you take a look at my video you can see how my lights are installed. I pulled some lights off of a RC jeep I reviewed a few years prior. I also added a sound kit which is my favorite mod so far. I absolutely love the engine sound on the Beetle. I have a cheap HBX truck I'm going to review soon that comes with paddle tires but I have no area near me that has enough sand to test them out :(

Most importantly, I am glad you all had a good time. You did a great job on the body with all the detail, including the driver. No one will notice any imperfections. When it comes to forgetting your radio, many of us have done that. As someone else said it's a great car to run on the beach. It looked great on the beach. As I was watching all I could think of was a bunch of old Beach Boys songs. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.

Thanks, the paint job just annoys me as it is rules #1 to not rush painting... The stickers did a lot to hide the flaws. Gloss black paint is one of the most unforgiving ones to deal with anyway! The beach run made all the problems fade away!! We all had a great time watching it slide around and sling sand everywhere!!! I tried finding some beachy theme music but yes, totally Beach Boys worthy!!! I just had to laugh at myself for forgetting the controller at home. I was going to do a control line run if I had to!!!

@@AddamsPlayground One time I drove one and half hours to an indoor dirt race and opened the hatch on van. I said a few choice words as I saw something was missing and remembered the transmitters were in a bag in the basement. I am trying to resist the temptation of buying one as someone mentioned.

@@michaeldorich4485 yeah that would be a Bad day! So did you stay and watch the races or did you just pack it up and head back home disappointed? I am not sure which one I would do personally... Probably stay and at least watch and hang out I guess! I think we all deal with the "I want that syndrome" here! I know at least 4 times a week I see something I want, go hunt it down online and then do the add to cart, remove from cart decision making! most of the time I defeat my demons and don't buy anything but odds are I will break 1 out of 10 times!!!

@@AddamsPlayground I watched some of the races for a while and talk to some racers I knew. I have a question. When you built your Blitzer Beetle did you any issues with the esc? I read one review from a buyer that said his Blitzer Beetle came with the Hobbywing esc and the wires were too short to reach the motor wires. What was your experience? Thanks.

@@michaeldorich4485 I got an older kit that still had the tble02 ESC. But yes, that is a problem with the 1060 switch, the wires are shorter and it does not screw mount. It is designed to either clip to the side of the ESC or you have to double stick tape it down close to the ESC . It does cause some issues in some kits.

That's a nice build! The blitzer beetle is a true beauty of a bug!! I simply put tamiya clear on my body and it worked like a charm! Take the front steering spindles off and put the right one on the left side and vise versa so the ball ends are facing down it will eliminate most of it's bad bump steer as you compress the front suspension.

Thanks! This body had some swirls in the color so it really needed a coat of paint to cover it. I should have just left the glue to fully cure for a couple days before trying to paint. Was just trying to force it before it was ready. Thanks for the tip on the steering. I still have to do a thorough cleaning on it and I can flip them when doing that.

LoL those radio lights are like lasers!!! That green one can probably be seen from space!! The beach drive was so much fun and lessons were learned! Make sure I triple check that I have absolutely everything I need before driving 5 hours from home, let the sprue goo dry for a few days before trying to paint and take a running car to the beach so I don't have to.wait all week to go out and play!!!

It is a fun build, you will enjoy it. The orange fender decals are kind of a pain but otherwise everything goes together well. I'd say start painting the driver and body while you build it. I know doing all that at the end drove me bonkers, I just wanted to go out and play with it!! Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!

@@AddamsPlayground Thanks for the tip! I have just started building it and I intend to fit the Ampro upper and lower braces to strengthen the front. Have you noticed any flexing or stress cracking near where the servo mounts up front?

Blitzer Beetle 👍😁 They are such a blast to drive! 😎 I'm glad you were able to get it all sorted in the end. I had similar issues trying to cover up the panel gaps and mounting holes on my Blitzer, so I feel your pain. I didn't even bother trying to do the same thing on my recent Sand Scorcher build! Great video, thanks for sharing!

The storms had just passed through so the wind was still up and the surf was rough. It was a great trip and the run on the beach was totally worth all the paint headaches and last minute scramble to get a transmitter!!! I still can't believe I packed the receivers and stuff but totally blanked on picking up the controller!! It all worked out and it was a great trip!!

I really like it! With 3s brushless power you may want to look at getting a lexan body shell for it! The hard body is tough but it isn't going to fair too well with a few high speed tumbles. Also go ahead and jest leave the mirrors off as they do break off pretty easily. It should be fun with all that power and speed though, it is fun with just a better motor than stock.

Hi Addam, great paint job. I know mishaps on paintjobs pr stickers are more worse for the builder than for the later viewers. So don't be to hard on yourself. The car might get dirty and running scars. So these moshaps turn to the backround.😉 It's annoying to forget the radio but better to forget the wife when going on vacation😁 Great beach run👍

Yeah, I was just annoyed with myself for breaking the #1 rule of don't rush the paint job!! The stickers do a great job at covering up the cracks. The transmitter thing was just sad but funny! I was going to rig it up on a control line if I had to get it out on the beach!! Sadly there are no hobby shops anywhere near where we were so thankfully I was able to get one quickly through Amazon and nice ladies at the local post office!! There is no way I could forget the wife and if I did there is certainly no way I can come back home!!!

My wife would kick my butt if I brought an RC car kit to build on vacation lol. She is however looking forward to camping and taking some of the trucks trailing.. turned out awesome my friend. I’m on the search for one of these on the cheap to build for my daughter, so if ya hear of them going on sale anywhere lmk. Maybe I’ll find one at horizon fest in a couple weeks. 😁

Our kids are grown and our trips are now to just unwind and relax. No more running all over to do all the things, we just do whatever and don't stress at all, that is the big rule, no stress!! It was a great trip and the car was super fun to drive on the sand!! We were all laughing and enjoying watching it sling sand everywhere!! Tower Hobbies is probably your best bet as they tend to have the best coupon codes. This one I have yet to see on sale but you may get lucky at Horizon fest!!!

Sand is always a ton of fun to drive in. It is terrible for the car parts but way too much fun to not do it!! I know for next year to both bring the controller and to bring another built car to enjoy driving while building the one at the beach house!!

Is this same plastic body like Monster Beetle ?? beach vid is superb played at half-speed ! ( Cant see the point of 200mph speeds , wheelies or climbing over rocks as big as a house ! Maybe it's just me ??) but the beach sand .....just wonderful ! Best wishes from Wales .😍😍

Yes it is the same hard body as the Monster Beetle. I don't run it with this one any longer to avoid tearing it up and I actually have a lexan one on there painted up like Herbie. I took that to the beach again this year. Sadly I was playing chicken with the waves and it got drowned in salt water and fried the ESC! It was still a good time and got some decent footage of it. I also built the Neo Scorcher buggy this year down at the beach and ran that too. Both of those videos are available too if you would like some more sand slinging action! It really is made for the sand and sun!! The only thing better would have been the sand scorcher but it was not in stock back when I bought this one. It was a ton of fun and made for a funny story about mistakes made!!!

Wow! That BB looks right at home on the beach! Too bad about the remote and primer issues. What do you think was going on with that? Primer reacting with the cement? Very strange... Awesome build as always! I totally need a BB in my life...

Thanks it was exactly what I had planned for minus the hiccups! The sprue goo took way longer to cure fully. I am pretty sure the glue was still trying to cure and when painting over it it was causing the fractures. Was not a paint issue as I have used this combo in the past with our any issues and was only around the sunroof. I just know now to give it like a week to fully cure before trying to paint stuff like that. The stickers hid the goof so not a big loss. The bug runs great and I am looking forward to a run around here soon once I get all caught up on chores around here!!

I was going to run this buggy at the beach if I had to tie a string to it and hardwire the battery to the motor and run it like a 50s control line car!!! I got lucky enough to get Amazon and a couple nice ladies at the local post office to get me a controller to be able to run it properly. I am sure I will be able to find a use for the radio system in another kit. It is now bound to my Spektrum radio as intended and it is all a fun story now! it was a great week down at the beach and I am already looking forward to next time! I will make sure I have the transmitter next time though!!!

Terrific looking (and running!) Blitzer Beetle Addam! Looks so at home on the beach, and I was surprised how quick it was in stock configuration. Glad you were able to get a little R&R and still found time to make a great vid! 👊🏻👊🏻 (On a side note, I totally feel ya on the fair skinned + sun thing. Us redhead beards are quite flammable! 🤣🤣🤣)

It does have the Torque tuned motor in it but otherwise is all stock. I had intended to put the GT Tuned in it but accidentally grabbed the wrong blue and white box and ended up with the TT motor! It was still a blast and plenty fast. It will be faster in the dirt as more tractions so we will have to see what it can do around the track soon!

Love this buggy dude! I have never really taken much notice of it but…. I don’t think you can really tell on the video the sunroof bud. Think it looks great and what a great thing to do on holiday 👍🏻🙌🏻

Thanks!! Luckily the drip stickers covered what was left of the cracking. It was just a case of should have left it to dry for a few more days before painting but was trying to force it and it won! In the end it was just minor spidering of the paint but in shiny black everything stands out as a flaw!! A lesson learned for sure, next time I know it needs to sit for a few.morw days to fully cure the glue. It was a fun drive on the beach and all of us were laughing and having fun watching it sling sand. So totally worth it!!!

I tried staying out of the salt water but the tide was just going out so the whole beach was wet and had little pools of water all over. It got a little wet but not bad. I rinse it all off with fresh water when we got back to the house.

The Blitzer Beetle is one of the Tamiya kits on my list.... do you think it's a good kit when finished? Will it hold up to spirited driving amd.maybe something like a 17-19t brushed setup, on 2S lipo? With the new kits coming with a Hobbywing ESC, I can't help but think they'd be lots of fun with a bit of extra pep... Neo Fighter was sold out when I went to order it, still wanting that one, and also the Blitzer Beetle...

Thanks!! I think it would be fine on a lower turn motor and lipo. I know a lot of folks have run brushless in them with no issues. They are pretty tough gearboxes and it comes with oil shocks so the ride is good also. I think you would have fun with it.

Thank you! This run was just after high tide so not too many people out and about. I usually go out to run them when the beach is quiet so I have plenty of free space to run around. I'd hate to hit a kid out there! Everyone that does pass by really love them and are surprised on how quick they are usually. It still surprises me how many people have never seen a hobby grade RC before!!

Classic tamiya chassis like this one doesn't have slipper clutch, whats your opinion? do you find any issue because of this?

I think unless you are running crazy power through them or really driving the pants off it all the tie would it be an issue. On a super high traction track and racing it a lot would be where it may eat a spur gear. I honestly have a tendency to overtighten my slipper clutches anyways so they probably do me little good LOL! On a loose track like mine I think you would wear stuff out more than worry about stripping gears. The gears in these are all very beefy and I know folks have been running their s for years with brushless systems in them without chewing up anything. ON a regular brushed motor you will be fine.

Chrome windows look great. What paint did you use for that? Chrome can be difficult to lacquer, dulls it down.

They are Liquid Chrome paint pens I got off of Amazon. I think I showed them and linked them in the radio shack frame buggy video. They work great, take a moment of practice to get the hang of them but they work really well. It is the closest thing to real chrome I have used. I have not shot clear over it yet so I can't say what that would do to it. It is shiny enough to put over the clear though!!

Thank you! It was a blast out there slinging sand all over the place! I just ordered a lexan body for it so I can drive it around more often without worrying about messing up the hard body on it! So it will be making more appearances on the channel soon I hope!!

I do not remember, I cannot remember if it is red because the car is not on and bound to it or if it is always on and once the batteries get low the green light goes out to let you to replace them. I do not remember off the top of my head but it is one of the two of those. I am pretty sure once the receiver is connected to it the the red light goes out.

@@AddamsPlayground i tried mine with the esc and motor servo etc it bound to reciever instantly didn't need binding plug atl but red and green light stayed on im assuming green light will go off when transmitter battery is low? Who knows

Yes, it is like most Tamiya kits with the 3 bevel gear diff in the gearbox. It is a contained diff so you could put thicker or thinner grease in there to help tune the diff action for tighter or looser feel. It is not a sealed diff but it is a contained one.
