I heard this is a great Tamiya Rwd buggy and I definitely agree, it's a cool one, check it out!
As I tend to do it, the video is made up of 3 parts, first we get to look at the buggy quite close to get familiar with it, then I take it for a spin and we see how it does, and finally I try to pretend I know a lot about it that might be worth telling.
About the car:
Tamiya kit 58587 (probably cheapest kit available)
Converted to DT-02 using parts TA-51518, TA-10440105, TA-19005987, TA-19465651 and some random stuff I had laying around.
Motor: Tamiya Torque Tuned 540
ESC: Tamiya TBLE-02
Servo: JX Servo PDI-HV5911MG
Radio system: Flysky, the one that everyone uses...
Wheels and tyres: Whatever I had around that was black.
"Upgrades": Bearings, Aluminium hex adapters, brace for front shock tower, increased cooling for motor.
The story behind this:
So I got a Tamiya DT-03 Neo Fighter in 2020 when coming back to the hobby and I sort of figured it all out again. In 2021 I got a DT-01. So one might say it was about time I got the DT-02, now in 2022. It's hard to say, but I do understand why this is so highly praised, a cheap buggy that drives so well. It's a cool buggy, and it sounds good, too!
The idea is to keep this one as close to stock as possible, just to sort of "learn" the chassis, and then I can later upgrade it or build a "better" version. So far this is great, just using standard electronics.
Music in the video:
The Expanse by BlaudisS
Cool electronic music with the added element of a wailing saxophone, perfect for slow motion clips, I think. Check them out:

Hi Mads! Well I must say I really like your DT02 Sand Viper clone! It looks sweet with that custom paint job and sure runs blooming well! You are right, it even sounds cool. That bump in the tarmac provided some nice little jumps, the one with the wheelie landing was awesome. Seems like you are getting more relaxed with the talkie bit, always my favourite part. And on that note, a big thank you for the shout-out, much appreciated my friend. I must say that your reinforcing bracket is a lot better looking than mine, you did a superb job with the aluminium! All the best, Mads, catch you later! :O)

Hi Mark! Yeah, that jump that ended in the wheelie, I'm also annoyed I didn't catch it better but still happy I got it! Thanks for the nice comment and your support, it means a lot to me! So when I get a tip from you it's only fair to mention where it comes from. It took a lot of filing to get it to fit, I'm now hoping it's still strong enough. Strangely this buggy has not yet been on its roof. It just drives like a dream!

Great video edit 👍🏼 what a buggy. This is my sort of buggy. I love the DT-02 and you have done a top job on this and what a great presentation. I like it when you cut the music as the buggy drops. I like the format with the chat at the end. Fantastic all round 👍🏼

Hi Damian, big thanks for the lovely comment and your support! I'm happy you like this because those are the bits I'm really happy about myself. I already love this little buggy, I'm looking forward to next time I get to run it.

Thanks D! Yeah, I remember we're pretty much in similar situation, just messing around trying to learn this game. Sometimes the editing is a damned hassle, but also sometimes I have a lot of fun with it, like on this one.

Very cool conversion!! It looks fantastic!!! I appreciate the run down at the end as I was not sure what it take to go from the DT03 to the DT02 so that was helpful! We all make mistakes painting and that is why the invented the decal sheets, especially the big logos and sponsor stickers! I have a few with some well place sponsor sticker hiding oopsies!!!

Thanks Addam for stopping by and hanging out for a little bit! Yeah, I had two DT-03's laying around for my FAV project, but then I reduced that project and had a spare, and since I gave up on getting the TD4, I decided to try build a Sand Viper, I'm happy I did. If you're interested, there is in the description box a list of the parts I used for the conversion, but it's just the plastic trees, all the hardware is a bit different two, but it just took a dive into the spares box to sort that out. Yeah, if you notice my Top Force, it's full of black vinyl stickers, ha ha!

Great video mate! I love the seagulls, way better than the Magpies I have hanging around my place. The buggy looks mint, goes great. Top notch watch 😊

Ha ha, thanks Shayne! Don't even get me started on the damned magpies! We just got 4 hens here and the magpies have been bullying them like crazy, we needed to keep adding nets and stuff. I started yelling at them and now the neighbour's boy who is like 4 has started yelling at them too. They're not welcome in our neighbourhood, ha ha! Happy you liked the video, it's a cool buggy, you'll definitely be seeing more of this one!

Beautiful Viper, Mads! Looks really great. Some great shots of it too, both on the table and in the dirt. Love it. Well, if it has a Viper body and a DT-02 chassis it’s a full blood Viper I would say. Good talk too and nice Mark Bryan mod! Best wishes to you my bro
@madsrcbuggy
@madsrcbuggy 2 года назад
Thanks a bunch, Mikael, a full blood Viper, that sounds pretty cool, ha ha! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with how this came out. I think it's the best of the DT's, at least for all round usage. I have all 3 now, so hopefully one day (hopefully this year) I can do some sort of comparison video... Have a good one there, buddy!

Thanks OAG! Yeah, I'm really happy about this buggy, I'm looking forward to running it some more, so far it's only been like 1½ time out with it. I'm quite amazed by the power from just that Torque Tuned motor.

Thanks Peter! Yeah, somehow it's more fun than just screwing together a regular kit, which is of course also a nice experience. I have a CW-01 chassis and a lexan Lunchbox body, but apart from that not yet figured what parts are needed to put it together... I have a feeling you'd like that.

Why complain about the mistakes. These are two beautiful cars. The DT-02 runs pretty well, what all of us can see. And the DF-03 certainly too... 👌 Over all, I find the changes on the DT-02 very good and well working.

Hey Yello, that's just the way I am. I can't do perfect paint jobs but in my mind I can and then I get annoyed it don't look like I visualized it. Yeah, they are great buggies, and I hope my videos show how much I like them. I'm having a good time with the hibby and I love sharing it with you all, and especially I love hearing back from people like you, much appreciated!

Well done Mads, looks good liking the colour choices. Don’t worry about it not being a proper dt02. Tamiya Sold XB Sand vipers and they have the plastic top arms like the dt03 Etc, so all is good :) and that Mark Bryan, he’s a good egg isnt he ;)

Thanks a lot Andy! It's your favourite buggy and I now understand why! It is really great! I'm pretty sure I'll build another one next year and it will be more advanced, but for now this is great for learning the chassis. Good egg, never heard that term before! :)

The AW grease should be ok…if you remember you tighten the ball diff down and then back off only about 1/8 turn….so it runs rather tight too. It will wear in over some races
@madsrcbuggy
@madsrcbuggy 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Muddfoot! Yeah, it turned out to be just fine with that grease in the rear diff, the buggy handles nicely. It's a gear diff, so no tightening needed... And I basically only run it outside in the summertime, just a fun RC...

I have a Sand Viper and I love it. It's all original, built it around 2015 I think. Still works great. The thing with buggies is that they almost never flip over and I like that. It has great handling I think. Just disassembling it a little bit now to clean it up and such. One screw to get to the steel drive shafts!!! I have to repeat that: you only have to remove one (1) screw. Now that's simple and ingenious. Say, if I wanted to spice it up with a hotter motor do you (or anyone else) have any recommendations?
@madsrcbuggy
@madsrcbuggy 2 года назад
Hi Magnus, thanks for the nice comment! Yes, I do actually have a hot motor that I recommend! Unfortunately I don't yet have any videos with it, but it's the Holmes Hobbies Retro Sport series, I have the 21 turn and the 19 turn in a couple cars, I like them a lot! They are not easy to get hold of, need to be ordered from America and then comes the import tax and all that. The other thing I could recommend is you try search DT-02 brushless on RU-vid, you'll get a lot of hits, try check videos from Mark Bryan, Pete Wylie and Nordic RC Visions, lots of goodstuff there! Hope this helps!

@@madsrcbuggy many thanks. I saw that eurorc sell the Tamiya torque tune motor so I think I will just go with that!
@madsrcbuggy
@madsrcbuggy 2 года назад
Yeah Magnus! The Torque Tuned motor is great, that is what I have in mine also. If you can, also get a steel pinion, either 17 or 19 tooth, I recommend going for the 19 tooth, mod 0.8. And don't forget EuroRC has a discount code, I used justrc8 last time I shopped there, it's only 5 percent but better than nothing!
