Hi and welcome to Part 4 of my build series for the re-released version of the Tamiya Hotshot.
This chassis goes together very differently to most modern Tamiya kits and there are some important things to look out for. This video focusses on the fitting of the electronics, building and fitting the roll cage and fitting the wheels - covering build manual steps 26 to 39 and the completion of the chassis. I hope you enjoy the build and the odd tip thrown in here and there - Cheers!
About the Tamiya Hotshot
The Hotshot, released in 1985, is a milestone as the first Tamiya 4 Wheel Drive chassis and the forefather of many similar chassis to come. The front and rear suspension both have single shocks and double wishbone system. The rear damper connects to the wishbones through a relatively complex lever system. The Hotshot chassis evolved during production, and was re-released in 2007 where the chassis has received a lot of smaller changes compared to the vintage ones.

Looking great Mark. Something about that rear monoshock that's just so wonderfully 80's Tamiya. What a thing of beauty! Great video as always, my friend. 👍🏻👊🏼

Starting to look like a car now mate! What a quirky buggy, it goes together really differently from anything I have ever built! They certainly enjoyed the use of zip tie's on this one. Loving how the electrics are safely concealed in a covered box, and I also love the roll cage with the netting..... she's a thing of beauty, and obviously a very enjoyable build. That's one stiff (not so) wibbly wobbly on there..... same as on the 959..... they create some pretty impressive flips when you roll it, and end up a little bent in no time! Very enjoyable matey. 😊 👍 👍 👍
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 месяца назад
I know mate, you will see the final result in the latest video I'm sure! It certainly is quirky but one of the most rewarding builds I've done! I hate the zip ties though! 😅 The component tray for the electrics is good but fiddly to get at to do any changes, so it's good and bad... I thought for a few seconds about fitting that wibbly wobbly, but though a nice stiffy would be good for a change! 😂 Cheers my friend! 🍻😎👊👍

Great video my brother..... I did the same swap with the on/off switch with my Wild One and I recommend doing the swap if you have an old burned out or not working Tamiya esc, it does make things much easier to use/work. Again, great video man!!!!! ATB to You, Lou & the kids!!!

Hello mate, how many times have l built a Hotshot! But that counts for nothing as l love watching you build this its a special buggy and you go about building it in such a calming manner! Looking great mate and tyre lettering too! Very nice! I imagine this has been done a while but looking forward to seeing what you do with the bodyshell?? I love my Hotshot and it had to be boxart but this buggy does look amazing in other colours! I always think its a shame to put the wing on a cover up that interesting mono set up on the back but this buggy needs its wing! Great stuff, l have been outside with an RC today a quick blast around the garden as the weather is fantastic it was great fun and put a smile on my face for sure its been ages since l last drive an RC and l am going to put that right more often! Cheers buddy have a great second half on Sunday Cheers James

Hello James! Well this is the first one I've built but I wouldn't mind doing another one! Such a special buggy to get into! Glad you enjoyed watching even though you've done it many times. The tyre lettering looks good from a distance mate, don't look too closely! It'll probably last 2 minutes on the first run! 😂 Good to hear you got some RC-time in today - it's called "therapy" my friend! Definitely need to do it as often as you can. Always makes me smile, too. Wishing you a great week ahead! 😎👊👍

Lovely build guide as always, Mark! If I were to build this kit, I would find it helpful to have watched your videos beforehand. All this weird engineering in this buggy, mostly cool and fun, but also some things that annoy me, all those damned cable ties, and wires hanging out the sides, flapping about, and what about that battery tray cover, why not have made it so it can protect the motor also? He he, I'm all into TD4-mode again, aren't I? My favourite part coming up next, the bodywork, looking forward to watch that one! Have a good one there, my friend!
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 месяца назад
Thanks very much, Mads! I hope you do get one of these kits, I reckon you'd love it! Haha, you did go on a bit of a TD4-mode rant there! 😅 Yeah those wires did bug me, but I manages to route them out of the way on the next video and it doesn't look so bad! The bodywork came out well, I hope you like the colour! Cheers mate! 🍻😎👍

Hiya mate. I'm really liking the look of this one. Looks like a great build and it's very solid looking. I do like the way that the old buggies had a big solid bumper because they are bound to be driven into trees fairly often. One thing I always thought looked a bit naff on these is the roof being attached with cable ties. Surely they could have made some little brackets. Anyway apart from that it looks great. Are you going with box art red for this one? Hope you are having a good Sunday. Decent Weather for a change. Best wishes mate 😁
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 3 месяца назад
Hiya Pete! Yeah this is a very cool buggy, the more I got into the build, the more I liked it! Very well specified and very solid indeed. Haha you know I will crash this thing into a tree at some point! 😅 I don't like the zip ties for the roof or the window netting either, I did use twine instead of all the ties though. This one is going to be green, I had a little agreement with Paul Coughlin, I chose the colour for his (pearl white) and he chose green for mine! Anyway, Sunday is going well thanks, and I know you are enjoying a well deserved beer as I just read your reply on your video! Cheers my mate! 🍻😎👍

Hiya Mal! Yeah it's a great ESC but I agree, the switch is a pain in an old Tamiya! Hehe, 😅how could i not go with a 27mHz with it's massive aerial on this classic Tamiya! 😎😬👊👍
