Tamiya Lunch Box and Kyosho Mad Van Shenanigans

In this video we run the Tamiya Lunch Box and the Kyosho Mad Van for a bit of fun. The Mad Van has the standard G14L motor, the Lunch Box has a GT Tuned motor, both are running 2s LiPo. Enjoy!

Yes finally a video showing these two together, the mad van is much more capable but the lunch box just puts a child like smile on your face.

For me the lunchbox never fails to bring me hours of enjoyment.. I put oil shocks on mine with a dirt tuned motor and its a different vehicle, handles so much better and a lot faster.. The kyosho mad van to me looks like a truggy with a van body but I'd still like one :) That was a cool video to watch 👍

I think the Mad Van looks pretty cool, I do like the 70's-80's street van look. I'm thinking maybe Kyosho were going for more of a truggy, without really looking like one. Agreed, the Lunch Box does look like a monster truck! Thanks Jacen. 👍

They run great and handled quite well. They do roll over quite easily, but you can steer out of it when you see it going over. The brushless version is coming very soon. I'd wait for that one, it should be a beast! Agreed, it didn't have great traction on the beach, big paddles would fix that though... and would be great for roosts. 😁👍

I hear ya, they are totally different animals! I hope this video doesn't look like any kind of comparison. I merely took the Mad Van out and my mate only had a Lunch Box to bring. There was a drag race or two, but when there's two cars who doesn't drag race? 🤣 Was fun running them. 🙂👍

Tamiya said this is how to do a Monster Van , Kyosho simply replied " Hold my beer " 😊. I have a soft spot for the Lunchbox but the Mad Van is bloody awesome 👌

Hey great van related fun Mick. I do like the Mad Van but the Lunchbox is still the classic and has that realistic monster truck stance. The loops in the pipe were cool. Great video mate :-)

So good to see these two obvious comparison cars side by side (you’re lucky to have both). In many ways the Mad Van looks like the vehicle TAMIYA should have built in the ops to upgrade on the classic. Go one tell us which in your opinion is more fun?

I find the Lunch Box is fun only for a short time really. The wheelies are fun, but I get bored with that pretty quick. The Mad Van handles much better and is faster in stock form. The Mad Van doesn't do wheelies, but the brushless version will change that. 👍

Even though they're two different platform designs they both look and run great. However, I always wanted to see how the lunchbox would perform if it was four wheel drive? Hmmm..... Has anyone tried putting the Lunchbox body, wheels, tires on the Mad Van platform yet?

Consider how long ago the LB was released and the new Kyosho just came out this year.. Of course the brushless will be faster but I love the classics.

This was in no way intended to be a comparison video. Just two mates driving their vans, but of course we're gonna race! It's all part of the "shenanigans" lol. The Lunch Box was running a GT Tuned motor and LiPo battery so we thought we'd try it against the stock Mad Van for fun. This is the first Mad Van, came out in 2019 and runs a brushed motor. Nothing wrong with the classics mate, I love em too! 👍

Swap the wheels and body sets over so the Tamiya has the kyosho mad van onto it and vis versa 😁

That mad van loves to land on its feet. Quite impressive! Is the lunch box running stock motor and shocks? Mine doesn't have that much pickup and tends to flip more easily (although probably my driving skills- or lack of).

Yeah, it's almost like a cat landing on it's feet. The lower center of gravity works well for it. The Lunch Box is completely stock (shocks and all) apart from bearings and a GT Tuned motor. It was running a 2s LiPo. Maybe just the slippery gravel helped this Lunch box not tip over so much, it tended to slide instead. 👍

No major mods. Only ball bearings, the Tamiya GT Tuned motor, Hobbywing 1060 and 2s LiPo. 👍
