This episode chronicles the painting and weathering of Tamiya's vintage M5A1 kit. From base coating to pigment powders, the entire finishing process is detailed in a clear and step-by-step sequence. Although the kit is a product of seventies engineering we apply our painting skills to lift our little Stuart to a level that'll pass inspection.

This’s the best old Tamiya M5A1 tank completed model kit I’ve ever seen. I like how you put the videos together. They’re easy to understand and concise. Not only one of the best modelers, but also a great teacher. 🎉❤

Thanks Jon. It was a bit of a slog with those damn grab handles but I think the model final gave up when I brought out the putty. Happy New Year!

Wonderfully done. A simple Tamiya build That allows a builder to ether cut their teeth when there 1st starting out Or show off there skills they've learned during their lifetime

Or like in my case grind their teeth down to the roots. It was fun anyway but I'll never forgive Tamiya for the tracks and handles. Stay well!

That looks excellent Tomas. Really subtle weathering have elevated this old girl with all its obvious faults to a high level (particularly liking those tools and the wood effects you have achieved) Well done and happy new year to you

Another great video you see alot of these now with on off switch holes on the bottoms on these old kit yet I've never seen one that was RC ?

Hey SB, thanks for the comment. Use to be that the RC servos were too big to fit in these 1/35 scale models. But nowadays with how small electronics are getting you'd think so. I think I've seen someone shoe horn their own RC control into a kit but that was a custom job. Stay well.

Do you know what the pointed bulldozer spikes are on the front are called?

It's been called a few different names, generally known as a hedgerow cutter. Sometimes the vehicles with the cutter attached were called Rhino Tanks. A certain style of the attachment was called a Culin-style cutter after the guy who came up with the idea. It helped Allied tankers fight in the Bocage areas of France during WW2.
