Our part 2 episode completes our AVGP Grizzly with paint and weathering. The video covers the entire process from preparing the parts, to paint selection, to priming and overcoating, glossing, decals, pin washing, streaking, adding highlights and shadows with oil paints and mud and splattering. Tools, materials and techniques are covered step-by-step. A gallery at show's end features high-resolution photographs of the finished model.

Beautiful rendition. For pigment fixer I use mix of 90% thinner to 10% Testors Dullcote (in the rectangle bottle). Once dry those pigments are fixed for life. Give it a try if you are so inclined. Your builds are a pleasure to watch.

Thanks for writing FM! I use to use Testors paints all the time - enamels mostly - but they're becoming harder to find in my neck of the woods. I assume you're using an enamel thinner, maybe mineral spirits? I like the alcohol, it's super thin and aids the flooding technique I like to use; but it's not as permanent as your solution.

Just the cheap paint thinner from your DIY store. Model Master is being discontinued as you may know.

I was getting a bit panicky since I thought that enamel paints were going to be banned altogether (like too many things we like these days). But the Tamiya enamels are available thankfully. Too bad about Model Master - I liked many of their colours and their acrylic dull coat worked well for me. I'll keep your fixer recipe in mind though. All the best Frank!

Hey Hetzkin, thanks for the note! Always nice to meet a fellow Grizzly-builder. Easy kit to build but the detail fit issues are a bit annoying. Best of luck on your project!

Very nicely done being Canadian I'll definitely be looking into this kit and will try to replicate your procedures 🙄 or at least try. Thanks again ✌🇨🇦✌

Hi James. Always nice to meet a fellow Canuk on the channel. I'm sure you'll have no problems with your own work - if I can pull off these techniques then anyone can given my general state of ineptitude. Thank you for watching and for the nice comment! And good luck with your own projects.

Nice to hear from you too Mike and thanks for the encouraging words. I had a little spitting when applying the undercoat but thankfully the green went on nice. As always, oils to the rescue. All the best to you.

Hi PM. Glad you could drop by. Your comment is probably the greatest compliment for a model builder. Creating realism is what most modelers strive for.

Try liquid chrome for the mirrors. They are markers. Or the inside of security tabs found inside expensive tools. Awesome model.
@stevieRay3211
@stevieRay3211 2 года назад
Good suggestions there Hetzkin. The markers have been suggested by a few people so I will have to try them although I did notice they are quite expensive when compared to the candy wrapper, and I get a treat with the later. All the best!

@@stevieRay3211 fair enough. My other is on me every time "bought that for a model" eh? Yes, yes I did. It was shiney and I will find a use for it. She's cool with that. As long as I keep cooking supper. Boo ya!

@@006hetzkin5 And they say that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Looks like gals aren't immune from this temptation either! With the amount of stuff I want to buy I'd be looking at preparing a banquet at least once a week! GL with your modelling Hetzkin.

The Grizzly holds a special pace in my heart. I served in 1 PPCLI in the mid to late 80's, before this version came out. Have some good memories and not so good of this vehicle. It is great to see a mainstream company make Canadian armoured vehicles. There are some issues with this kit though. The main one is the turret guns are totally wrong. The 50 cal and the C 6 should not have conical flash hidders on them, they got this wrong on the early version also. Why Trumpeter did this I do not know. Also the guard on top of the first grill on the hull top was only used on the Cougar. This was a feature that was used so the gunner did not depress the main gun down enough to fire into the hull. You did a fantastic job on this kit. I do plan on purchasing the entire AVGP family of vehicles to add to my Canadian AFV collection.

Hi MAF and thank-you for your service. Right you are about the muzzle ends. Trumpeter kits give us good prices but they are "rough around the edges". I build out-of-the-box for the series but there are after market MGs that can address the "Bofors" style muzzle ends. Nice that the vehicle has nostalgia value for you, makes building and collecting the kits all that more meaningful and interesting. Good luck on your own building journey and thanks for the input!

Thank you Tom! I really like the effect of the 'steel' oil paint mix topped off with the graphite. I've used graphite previously but just on its own, not over that very soft blended / drybrushed edge effect you used - and the way you've done it in this video is WAY superior to my old way. I just happen to be at the weathering stage of a build (finally found some time to get some modelling done!) and I'm going to use your method on it. Thanks again!

Hi Graham, thanks for watching and for your comment. We work with so many drab tones that a splash of colour like the red and white stands out. I guess it's our armour version of nose-art. 🤣
