This one wasn't really on my radar until I got older. As a kid I always wanted fast and flashy! I love the truck and it is fun to drive but it does take a good bit of painting and detailing so I don't drive this one too hard and keep it in the grass. I'm fine with some scuffs and scratches I just don't wanna beat it up on the track and gravel as they are much less forgiving!!! I appreciate the kind words and appreciate you stopping by and checking it out!!! Not trying to be a bad influence but you should get one😂😂

@@AddamsPlayground Hey Adam. My awesome wife got me one for my b-day back in August. I been working on ii little by little. Actually started with the body but recently got impatient and built the chassis. I've cheated and been "test driving" it no body. I love this truck! Stole the Torque Tuned from my Blackfoot for a minute, nice! I use lipo 7.4v so probably not as crazy as with nihm batteries. I tried 3s in my neo frog(fighter), too much for me. Happy holidays!

Addams, you are one of my Top five Favorite shows. AI get So Much from your videos. When it came time to paint the N O bottle in my Wild Willy I didn't have the particular shad of Blue so I used the blue paint I had. I Love my Willy regardless but glad to see your waiting for the right shade of blue. You definitely pay attention to the little details. I guess that's one of the reasons I Love your channel So Much. Keep it up Brother.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate hearing that and I am glad you are enjoying the videos! It is an odd shade of blue for the NOS tank but thankfully my LHS had a bottle of it in stock. I tend to lean towards doing the bodies as they have them described in the manuals and stick with the box art but occasionally I go in a completely different direction. The Wil Willy just looks great as designed and I had a great time building and painting it all. Than you again for the very kind words!

If you're worried about scratching up the shell just buy another for knocking around and use the other for show. the shells are dirt cheap anyway. Don't go to all that effort painting it up to look nice to scratch it all up on your first run

I had looked into when I built the kit and at the time I think to get a full body, driver, roll bar and other parts was going to well over $100. At that point I would just invest that money into another car for the collection. I completely understand not wanting to let it sit on a shelf, I felt that way for most of my life. At this point I am both enjoying building and finishing them as I am collecting the kits I really wanted growing up and could not afford. It may be a the classic old guy move I guess, but I do take almost all of them out on occasion and drive them. I think I am around 45-50 cars and trucks now so some have a more relaxed shelf life than others! Thanks for watching and for checking in!

Wow. Thanks for telling me about that steering servo. I wouldn't have thought of this.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Год назад
It is kind of buried in there once you get everything together! I test all my servos new and old before installing. I stick a round servo horn on them and hold onto it to put some load on it and turn it back and forth. I usually have it lighting clamped to the edge of the bench. Then a couple dozen full left and right cycles. I am checking for odd noises and to make sure there is not stuttering or or twitching from them. Also with the round horn on there I can make a reference mark to make sure it is returning to center all the time. It is easier and quicker to find a problem there then 5 minutes into your first run and it starts acting up. It can still happen but it is a minute of time to check it out and feel good about it!

I had an original Wild Willy a long time ago, I don’t know what happened to it. When building it, I made a major mistake. I used a glue or thread-lock (I don’t remember which) that was not compatible with the plastic. When I was nearly done with the model the plastic started to crack an disintegrate. I broke out some epoxy and slathered it on every part that was affected. To my surprise, it actually worked. On the down side, I would never be able to take it apart for maintenance. I thought I kept it, but when I went through some of my old boxes a few months ago, it was no where to be found. I guess it is just as well.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 года назад
More than likely thread lock. It was notorious for eating plastic but that seems awfully fast. The plastics they used back then were nowhere near as good as they are now so maybe. At least you were able to salvage it. Not to be a bad influence but you should totally get a new one and build it. They are a ton of fun to drive!! Thanks for the story, I love hearing about everyone's RC past! Thanks as well for stopping by and checking in!!!

This & the black VW monster bug is what got me to subscribe! Your work is a great inspiration for me to get into the hobby. Would love to hear your thoughts on swapping/upgrading parts (plastic to metal or upgrading servos) to help make your builds last/better performance. Thanks for all that you do for us!
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Год назад
Well Thank you very much, I appreciate that and glad you are enjoying the content and have gotten into the hobby! Personally I don't do too many hop up and upgrade parts. I have gone down that road too many times in the past and spent a ton of money and ended up with cars that were marginally better! For me personally unless it breaks or is causing a problem then it is just perfect. I do often put in sport tuned and GT tuned motors in by build for a bit more speed and torque over the stock ones and replace the friction shocks with oil filled ones but that is usually the most I go. It really boil down to a couple things really. How hard you drive them, how much performance are you expecting and your budget for parts vs kits! If you drive them hard and rough then investing in a stuff like aluminum C-hubs and spindles are a good as it adds toughness. I don't usually do things like suspension arms in metal, I would rather it break then the chassis! Shock towers are another good thing to get tougher ones of but again those may cause damage in some kits to chassis parts instead of flexing. For performance things like turnbuckles or parts to take out slop in steering are god places to look at but unless you are track running and working on trimming times and being super consistent, I would worry too much about that. they are nice to haves but not required to have fun. For budget, I personally would rather invest $100+ into another kit instead of putting all that into one I have already. But for me it is more about the building and the collecting than the driving anymore. So that one is very personal to your goals and budget. I prefer variety over razor edge performance as that it lost on my mediocre driving skills! LOL!!! Personally start with the simple and effective things... bearings, motor, shocks and upgrades to known weak points. Other than that if you are not racing then just have fun and enjoy the hobby as you see fit for you, it is the best policy to live by!

I Really like the monster truck tires tye Wild Willy cones with, but I saw this set of aluminum wheels with somekindof mud tires so I got them and put them on Wild Willy. He still does wheelies and performs as Great as the Original, but when you step on the brakes the keep makes a screeching sound and chirping like a Real car would if you stomp on the brakes. I been thinking of getting another Wild Willy so I can have one with the stock monster tires. 🤪 Guess I'm a Real r/c Nut.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Год назад
Nothing wrong with mixing things about and bit and making it your own! That is part of the fun of building them yourself is you have full control of what happens! The screeching tires does sound like it would be very funny to have happen and I could see me doing that a lot! I have thought about getting another and doing the camo theme paint job on it but I have such a list of other cars and trucks I want to get and build it is one of the back-burner ideas that will have to wait for the right time to happen. Welcome to the RC nut-house, there is plenty of room here to stay and lots of company!!! LOL!

I have looked at them several times but for the money I have always gone with other kits instead. I may do one in the future but no plans of one any time soon unfortunately. At the moment I am tapped of fun money and my real truck just blew a fuel line so I am not sure what that is going to cost to fix. I will try and get one on the channel eventually. I will look later to see if I can find another channel that may have a decent build series on one.

Thanks for the video. I just ordered one. The dash, do you recommend gluing the dash first to the body then painting the body and dash together. I plan on painting the body with TS-28 Olive Green.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 года назад
I would glue it first as the glue works best when it is pure plastic to plastic. You can glue the dash to the rear hood cowl area and paint it before the final assembly of it. Then just mask off the gauges and stuff when you finish painting the whole thing. You can get in there and paint the gauges and stuff after assembly but it just is a little easier when it is separate. It is a build where most of your time will be in painting and detailing it but they look so cool once done it is all worth it!!!

@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 года назад
@@MaxxPainII No problem at all! Biggest tip I have for you is just don't get too excited and try and rush through the body. That is where most of your time will be spent and if you take your time and do it all to the best of your abilities it will turn out so much better and you'll be so much happier with it in the end. I know it is hard since one the truck is built you wanna go out and drive but the body set is the biggest thing with these trucks so just be patient, I struggle with it all the time!!!

Thanks for checking it out and yes there was an original Wild Willy. the original one came out in 1982 and was on it own unique chassis and looked a lot like this one but had paddle tires and not quite as monster truck looking. When they re-released it 1999 they had put the body on a different chassis and that is the one you can get today still. Has a more monster truck stance to it and does wheelies very easily, the original did wheelies but not quite as easily.

What's the difference between the wild Willy 1 and the wild Willy 2
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 5 месяцев назад
The body is fairly similar and some of the body and driver are compatible. The WW2 chassis is completely different then the original (short or long wheelbase). The original I have not seen in person but the WW2 chassis is pretty tough, the body is the weaker part as it takes the brunt of the damage from rollover and wrecks!

@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 3 года назад
You will need a radio system, servo, batteries and a charger. Paints as weel but they are optional but really make it look it's best. You can use craft paints but I really think the Tamiya paints work the best. For a radio this is a good, cheap entry level one. - smile.amazon.com/Flysky-FS-GT2E-2-4ghz-Transmitter-Receiver/dp/B00VE3QC7C/ref=sr_1_27?crid=2PKP55O3L5OSK&dchild=1&keywords=rc+transmitter+and+receiver&qid=1630155565&sprefix=rc+tran%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-27 If you plan on getting more kits then look for the FlySky GT5, it is a little more expensive and a little more difficult to set up but has multi-model memory meaning you can use it for more than one car and only have to buy the new receivers for them in the future. For the servo, these are what I use and have never had an issue with them, super cheap but work great - amazon.com/gp/product/B07NQJ1VZ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For batteries these are the ones I run and they work well and are cheap, fit perfectly and are not Lipo so they are very safe to use for a beginner. I would stick with the NiMh ones until you get more experience and learn more about the safe use of them. A lot of Lipos do not fit into Tamiya trucks and cars as well so you have to find very specific ones for them. - amazon.com/gp/product/B07VLKP6RJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 For a charger I have a dual charger and it will charge multiple types of batteries but look for something like this as it has kind of all the things you need now and in the future as well - amazon.com/EBL-Balance-Charger-Discharger-Connectors/dp/B092LCYDQW/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=nimh+rc+battery+charger&qid=1630156592&sr=8-10. I have not used this one myself but it has good reviews and will do everything you will need and has the ability to charge multiple types and with multiple battery leads which you may get into if you venture out the Tamyias! I hope it helps and enjoy building and driving that truck! Welcome to the hobby!!!!
