----------------------
The differences between these two XB (RTR) entry-level models are of course mainly visual. Both are based on the same chassis with the same suspension and damping (or rather, lack of damping), same standard 27T brushed 540 motor, same RWD transmission and 18T pinion. The only difference I found, apart from body and wheels, was the non-identical front body mounts.
In an aesthetic and historical perspective the visual difference is of course striking. The Tamiya Blackfoot III is the embodiment of the "return to the golden age". A very classic 1980s Monster Truck with a high raised Super Blackfoot (Ford) Body.
I really like the visual appearance of them both, but I must admit, having lived through the majority of the 1970s and 1980s, it is a special feeling to watch the Tamiya Blackfoot III, a classic 1980s majestic looking Monster Truck, on a run. On the other hand, the Mighty Bull body is a perfect wheel base match for the WT-01 and the low mounted lexan body provides a lot more opportunities for tarmac runs, speed upgrades and jumps (without the fear of wrecking an expensive and fragile hard body)
In another historical perspective it is also interesting, to notice the differences between the electronics supplied in an XB model from 2006 and another from 2012.
"XB" is the Tamiya terminology for an "eXpert Built" model, a factory built ready to run model. Pre-assembled and with original Tamiya electronics installed. While the Tamiya Blackfoot 3 XB, model 57825, is an XB version of the Tamiya Blackfoot 3 Assembly Kit, model 58498, from 2011, the Tamiya Mighty Bull XB, model 57727, is a stand alone XB model, with no kit version available.
The Tamiya Mighty Bull came with an ESC with a power supply and without BEC and with a 27 MHZ radio system with BEC. The Tamiya Blackfoot 3 came with an ESC with BEC and a 2.4 GHz radio system. Here is a complete comparison of the two systems:
Tamiya MIGHTY BULL XB 2006
- TEU-101BK ESC
- TSU-01 Servo
- TRU-01 Receiver
- 27T 540 Brushed Motor
- Expec TTU-03 27 MHz Transmitter
Tamiya BLACKFOOT III XB 2012
- TEU-105BK ESC
- TSU-03 Servo
- TRU-08 Receiver
- 27T 540 Brushed Motor
- Finespec TTU-08 2.4 GHz Transmitter
Both ESC's are rated at 60A and the specs of the servos are more or less the same. The real difference is the switch to the 2.4G radio system.
Well, hope you enjoyed the run and comparison. If you wish to see these two models "in raw" (no slow-motion, no editing, no music), 4K videos from the same day is coming up next week. These two short runs will give a more realistic impression of the the two models capabilities and speed.
You can find the Tamiya Blackfoot III's maiden run here:
• Tamiya WT-01 Blackfoot...
You can also find some more slow-motion footage of the Tamiya Mighty Bull here:
• Tamiya WT-01 Mighty Bu...
If you wish to see the grandfather of all the WT-01s and WR-01s check out this latest video with the Tamiya WR-01 Wild Dagger from 1999 here:
• Tamiya WR-01 Wild Dagg...
In the Description Box of the Tamiya Wild Dagger Video you will also find much more written information about the Tamiya WT-01 and the Tamiya WR-01 chassis.
Plenty of other videos with the WT-01 chassis and models (and loads of other radio-controlled Tamiya models) in my channel too!

I've never really considered any of the newer Blacfoots but I like how this one looks in the video.

Yeah, well, apart from the fact that the wheelbase of the body and chassis is a better match on the earlier Blackfoots … it’s still a cool looking Blackfoot.

Great video. Prefer the BF body, but both trucks look great. I like the part where the Mighty bull is shot from behind, and you just see Tamiya all over the rear of the truck, driving in slowmo towards the water, looks amazing.

Jesper Klausen Thanks, Jesper! Yeah, that Ford body mounted on a monster truck chassis is really pleasing to the eyes. It bugs me a little though, that the wheelbase isn't a perfect match. Fits better on the original ORV which is shorter. The Mighty Bull has a perfect match. Thanks, Yeah, I like that shot. Must try to do more of these kinda shots. Both the Mighty Bull and Blackfoot III have this decal on the rear. It looks great!

You are Blackfoot 3 is a masterpiece!!!!I love it I just purchased the bush hog version because you actually can't get the three now
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thanks! It’s an XB so Tamiya build it for me :-) Sadly they didn’t paint it before applying the decals, so it’s not that beautiful up close, with the bare plastic. Yeah, a few WT-01s remain on the market but the BF3 seems to have gone out of production and stock all around the world ... sadly. Still, the Blackfoot/Super Blackfoot body and body parts are still available and so are the BF3 decals. So it still is possible to build a brand new Blackfoot 3.

the blackfoot dose seem to have more ground clearance . and personally I think you were getting more fun with your blackfoot . just bought 2016 re re blackfoot to bulid over Christmas holiday . a present from me to me . lol

@NordicRC 4 года назад
Nice! Would love the re-re one day, but I’ve had a lot of fun with the Monster Beetle re-re. Both models here have the exact same WT-01 chassis and ground clearance so performance is similar. The body sits higher on the BF3 though.

Nice one. Obviously the Blackfoot looks much more impressive but like you say it's good to have one for bashing about on hard surfaces without worrying. I sort of wish I'd got a Blackfoot III when they were selling them off quite cheap but like we discussed before, there isn't space or money for everything ! :-)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 7 лет назад
Thanks, Pete! Yeah, the Tamiya addiction is a difficult one to deal with, now that there are so many models and there's always a dealer somewhere with a good offer, so we must fight it sometimes, unless we want to drown in models :-)
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 7 лет назад
Ha, drowning in RC models is how I want to go !
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 7 лет назад
He he, that would certainly be a good way to go. The only problem is that I don't think my family want to drown in RC models too, lol

Also I'm going to request that my coffin gets transported on top of a fleet of Tamiya trucks. Might take a bit of organisation but what a send off ! :-)

Thanks, Yin Yang. Sometimes when making videos having sand is great for slow motion. But yes, for running only, this particular beach wasn't that much fun with 1/10 2WD trucks :-)
@martinneps9387

The Blackfoot truck seems like you could have more fun with it because you to hire truck so you can no go over different things where the other truck is too low To the ground
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Hi Martin. They have the same ground clearance. The Blackfoot body is just mounted higher (a bit more top heavy too with the hard body).

Nice work man is the chassis the same as the twin dagger but with one motor If so my dagger is getting a Blackfoot shel
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 6 лет назад
Thanks, Scott! Yeah, the WT-01 is based on the WR-01 (like the Wild Dagger, Twin Detonator). Basically, like you say, just a rear wheel drive WR-01 with one motor/gearbox. The Blackfoot body is a bit too short for it, but I guess Tamiya thought it was a minor detail when doing the BF3. Still looks okay in my opinion :-)
@devilicous

the mighty bull front tire are mounted backwards. might perform better if the chevron pattern were running true. other than that love your vids
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 7 лет назад
Nice catch! Oh no you're right! Didn't notice that before now, but now, after you pointed it out, it's obvious. I had all wheels off for the transportation to the beach and I guess I mounted them a bit too quickly. Quite amazing I didn't notice it before now. At least I got the Blackfoot III's wheels right it looks like lol. Yeah, performance wise I don't think it matters much with 10-15 km/h and RWD. Good thing I got the rear wheels right :-) Thanks for the comment and the compliment, devilicous.
@devilicous
@devilicous 7 лет назад
well with my own experience on my lunchbox, it doesn't matter much, but with the tread backwards it would push a little more as the tread couldn't bite quite right. but yeah not as important than on a 4wd.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 7 лет назад
I agree. Just re-watched the video. It certainly looks very weird now that I can see it! :-) Didn't even notice it when I edited. I must be blind sometimes. Just like the axle stay screws in The Hornet Build. Well, if I remember correctly all WT-01s have the same wheels, front and rear. So 12 mm Hex all the way. A leftover from the WR-01 (4WD) that it is based upon.
