Tanabata, the Star Festival, is one of five seasonal festivals that has been celebrated in Japan since the 8th century. Each summer in Japan, people prepare for the festival by writing their wishes on narrow strips of paper called tanzaku and hanging them with other origami paper ornaments on bamboo branches displayed at the entrance to their homes and public places.
It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar.

Tanabata brings fun and cheer to the coming drier heat of Japan’s summer dry season. Still kind of humid, but much less than the rainy season.

Tanabata is like the summer version of Valentine's Day, but with more wishes and less chocolate! lol

You could save up the emoji club charity money until its $1000 and then donate it, that way they would put Tokyo Drew on the wall.

That's what they call it in China? Cool 👍

@@Tokyodrew Actually, we call it July Festival, which young people refer to as Chinese Valentine's Day because it occurs on the 7th day of the 7th month in the Chinese lunar calendar. During the Meiji era, Japan adopted the Gregorian calendar in imitation of the West, which is why its observances take place tomorrow. However, to explain it more conveniently to a Canadian guy , I think "Chinese Valentine's Day" is more suitable. LOL
