Soul, you really hit the nail in the head with Dragonflight being the first expansion where they didn't have to really fix an issue that was present the whole expansion (Legion Legendaries & Corruptions finally being put on a vendor, things made account-wide that should always have been that way, etc. ) I've always felt that the end of the expansion has been the best time to play WoW for this reason. Simimlarly, I've always hated the first patch of a new expansion since that is when you feel the weakest since they take away all the borrowed power that you have been used to.
Dude, you nailed the tanking issue! As a fellow "career tank," I refuse to tank in an environment where I'm expected to pull "wall to wall." Other people leaning into the tanks' overpowered state has created a toxic environment for everyone else. That "take a hit" joke was so bad it was great!
That sounds horrible. As a high m+ healer if tanks don't pull a lot the dungeon takes forever. Nobody wants a dungeon to take 40+ minutes because the tank can't pull more than 2 packs or he dies.
@omedon666 I never said I wanted them that short. I don't mind dungeons taking up to around 25 or 30 minutes. But if we are only able to pull a couple packs at a time then M+ is going to take much longer than that.
I finally called it on MoP Remix. Last night was my 6th level 70 alt. I had been working a 7th and said enough and did a delete. On top of that I've 23 other alts on DF alone and it will take awhile just to get everyone that is important to me to level 80. I'm casual and I'm tired.
"with my raid team, folks enjoyed themselves" Yeah, as one of many paladins in your raid team, I did indeed enjoy the raids, except Amirdrassil. The grind for that lego, and still not seeing it drop soured me on that damned raid.
I'm fine with 5/6 of the tanks needing significantly more external healing. Blood Death Knight, however, has always been the de-facto self sustain tank, where their healthbars are built to yo-yo. The defensive layer they increased was not high enough to prevent the excess yo-yo feel, but they did significantly reduce their ability to keep themselves in a stable state. Now healers won't want to work with BDK because they won't know if they're in a state where they can death strike to full, or if their death strikes will only get them partway there.
I already didn't want to do M+ with BDK's because they are the worst tanks out there, bar none. They vastly overpull because they can keep themselves alive, until they can't, and rely solely on the healer to deal with their actions of overpulling. And no, BDK's shouldn't be the only tank that shouldn't need help, that would defeat the purpose of nerfing every other tank and unless you make it so BDK's do half the dps of every other tank everyone would just play BDK.
My only complaint with Dragonflight (I'm easy) is that they seemingly gave up on it after Amirdrasil dropped. The last major tuning pass was in January, and, that was it. While I enjoyed Plunderstorm, haven't played Remix, I would have greatly preferred some more love for retail. I really feel that Blizzard needs to see an expansion ALL the way through, and not throw it to the side half way through.
The tank "drama" is so funny to me as I watched dorki test it out on beta immediately after it was announced. WoW community: omg why does blizzard hate fun!!1 Literally one of the best m+ tanks in the world: this isn't even a slap on the wrist lol.
I loved DF. The quests behind renown wasn't the best, but at least it shouldn't be as big a deal anymore. Shared reps should help out once the new expansion hits.
As a healer for over 10 years, I don’t need tanks to be slabs of meat that I have to spam flash heal on… On top of that, if tanks don’t have powerful DRs and self-heals to allow me to focus on myself and the 3 dps on top of mechanics/cc, what do tanks have, threat? Cool. Might aswell use a taunting dummy
You missed how intentional my wording was: DPS deals the team's damage. Tanks prevent the team from taking extra damage. Healers prevent the team from dying. Not a dev or a healer, but I imagine that it'd feel good if at any given time, the healer has to split their attention evenly across the whole team. As in the team will always take a certain amount of unavoidable damage that the healer is responsible for but outside of that, good play on the dps and self heals/mitigation from the tank means equal attention from the healer.
@@SoulSoBreezy Oh, I don’t mind if I have to save the tank’s ass if they mess up, every once in a while. But from what I’ve seen/read after the nerfs, healers are having a very hard time. The vast majority of them, not the streamers and 1%ers that are pros and players with premades. And nobody asked for the nerfs tbh, this is Blizz trying to appear as if they care and listen, funny enough.
@@LuuLBVon beta it hasn’t really changed much. I still am throwing heals on tanks anyway because you never know if your tank sucks or not. For coordinated groups it might’ve slightly a nerf, but I don’t think pugs are going to notice a difference.
This may shock you, but while the majority of M+ is pugged, Blizzard has consistently designed it to not be all that pug friendly. The experience between pugs and pals is like night and day.
As long as I'm not so squishy that I can't use rocket shoes and pull an entire Quest worth of mobs at once while leveling and top myself off between pulls, I'm okay with the changes.
Remember, this is my opinion....and like rear ends, everyone has one. Now, on to my rant. I now understand why there was not enough story to keep me engaged...not enough rep...but I didn't grind enough rep...because, no story. I like the stories, long or short. Never did catch on to the dragon riding. Many of you were very helpful with many suggestions. Maybe I like druid flying better and that is why dragon riding never took. Soul, did I hear you correctly, that the massive point spending panels will be going away, or was that my overtied brain trying to give me some hope? How big is the coffee cup, or are you doing different sizes? Many questions, but it is nap time. I am grateful to Soul and everyone that puts themselves out there to grab that extended hand that is looking for help/ideas/assistance. This is a great channel. Have a great day.
I appreciate that you comment on like everything =). 1. If by point spending panels you're talking about profession specs, they're still there but they're much less confusing. 2. So far I have a normal sized cup but I can opt for larger sizes if people are interested.
@@SoulSoBreezy I am happy to comment on as much as possible, helps the algorithm and all that. Coffee cups.....if what you have are the most beneficial to you, stick with it...I am always just curious if anyone carries a cup that hold about 30 ounces or so....yes, it takes that much to wake me up. When people ask, I only have one cup of coffee a day.😁
In the next expac the Druid flying form will have dragon riding abilities. I can’t believe there are people out there that like the story and rep grinding! lol
The fact that tanks are complaining about not being able to solo high end content is insane. They were never supposed to, they're losing their god status but Blizz is nerfing the one shot damage so its a far trade IMO.
did i like df? yes, yes i did. admittedly i'm not too concerned with story, tho i do wish df's was better. but gameplay/systems-wise, df was a great improvement, and i did enjoy it.
DF could have been a 9 or even a 10 expansion if the story/theme had been better. Now it was in 7/8 range only because of all the good gameplay systems etc. So all in all a great experience with room to improve. That's why I hope TWW will continue the trend and take the good things in DF and make it better. Warband already is such a huge W for TWW ! I just hope it won't be the only W. We shall see 😎
I didn't play much of dragonflight as far as dungeons and raids. I was still going all in on Classic. I feel like I missed a pretty damn good xpac. What I did do was make a little cash and level blacksmith at the beginning of DF and I really liked the direction it was going. All in all, what I did see was promising for the future of wow, and I am looking forward to doing stuff with many of my classic buddies as we return to retail.
So maybe I've missed comments related to this, but does Blizzard not have concerns that these tank related changes could cause there to be even less tanks available for groups than there already is?
@@omedon666 What are you talking about dude...comparing actual M+ and Raiding to Follower Dungeons and Delves has to be a joke right. M+ and Raiding are the only end game content WoW has. So yes, M+ and Raid tuning is 100% THEIR responsibility. You are talking about less than 5% of the Wow players that doesn't do some form of M+, Raiding or PVP. And their tuning (nerfs) to Tanks is making Tanks need to rely a whole hell of a lot more on "random players." How you came to the delusional conclusion you did shows how dumb casual players are.
@@curtharakaly4620 Thank you for proving my point about unfriendly the WoW community can be! Thankfully there's a whole lane of the game now that lets me not have to worry about grouping with people that treat each others badly. Have a nice day!
the goal is to smooth out tank damage. we haven't seen the required decreased mob damage yet (aside from the fortified nerf) that needs to accompany the tank changes in order to make this happen. a secondary goal is giving healers something else to do (throwing a few more heals on tanks) so that there doesn't have to be big damage on the DPS to challenge the healers. Ideally, it seems the goal is to have more consistent, predictable, less-spiky damage that healers have to deal with. if this lets healers heal and not be second class DPSers, this should be a big W.
unfortunately, if tuned improperly like season 1 of SL, we will enter a kite meta for tanks that saw a big decrease in tank population. Not all tanks want to be invincible like Soul was eluding to, but we want to be able to be strong within our role while being able to actually tank packs, not kite around like a paper doll while everyone does dps and CC. It could turn out ok and be fine in the end. We will have to see, but I do not want to tank in a kite meta for M+.
The press print stuff gets really warm in the spot that it's pressed on. Like, the fabric doesn't breathe there anymore, and then I end up sweating in just that one spot when being active or out on a hot day lol. Either way, good show!
I absolutely love that you’re looking at the healing meters as a tank. When season2 first came out, I had 99 and 100 damage parses on Normal Aberrus for resto druid on the first week. Healing wasn’t too garbage either
I agree with everything you said about Dragonflight, except for what you said about Researchers Under Fire - You didn't deride it anywhere near enough :P
Dragonflight was a systems nightmare and devs made players despise crafting. Even dragon riding was forced into making players maneuver using a jerky, glorified gliding system.. I am not a fan of turning flight into a series of awkward parabolas. The renown not being account wide made playing alts a setback to progression especially with the whiplash from constant class tuning.. Devs need new leadership.
finally someone not simping with this overblown crafting system. making it necessary to spam trade chat and get lucky not to have one's pants taken down + wtf was that circumcising of fine-defining open orders to be able to make progression happening for lower skilled crafters. unfinished. the flight system revived the game for most tho. the balancing really ruined endgame for many, esp. with those overly dominant metas without much alternatives.
Regarding the most important segment of the show, i think the white of the font will stand out from the color of the shirt, and you don’t need the black border. Personally think I’d prefer the shirt image to be more hand drawn looking, and not a just a shirt template image. Good idea though!
Really annoys me about tank change is blood dk them changing how death strike works. To me dk are self healing tanks dam near unkillable but at cost at least my experience vs other tank i play. Doing least amount of damage for a tank. Now understand nerfing self healing little. But mostly fact changing death strike annoys me. Other tanks don't play often just alts play for fun so can't say how nerfs. But otherwise kinda agree we need neefed little but fear damage high still
DF was a very transformative expansion and introduced a bunch of huge wins for gameplay and gearing. Dragon riding is cannot be undersold for just how much it’s made just playing your character so much move fun and engaging. It relit the fire for me after thinking I may never come back after shadowlands season 1. Aside from the story being a bit weak and the lack of epic stakes, this was definitely one of the very best xpacs imo
Legion was my favorite expansion. There was bad and good there, but I recall loving it so much. This one wasn't great, it was a little meh. I didn't care for the changes in crafting, but did enjoy taking a hunter into dungeons and nearly being to keep up with the mounts on foot.
All I see it’s the HP bar just like a dk and that’s one reason I just didn’t want to play dk , they nerfed DH and then one more mass nerf to all tanks , the hardest part was to actually take a break and no Ty , idk how many times the healer dies and Dps dies and the tank survived it and killed the boss and that feeling just can’t be replicated again
The response for all this yoyo Hp bar will be kite a lot more like season one , and also don’t push any keys with an augmentation ….yes nerf the healing done to others but not the absorbs and self healing , I still see people getting one shot on a +3 , I refuse to pay for the this kiting garbage. I don’t have time to play anything else then m+ and I pug a lot , can’t really rely on others that much that all this nerfs I rather stay away .ty
I mean at the end of the day tanking and healing is a thankless job enjoyed by a minority, so unless wow rethinks those roles and gets some inspirations by other games, you better get used to hour-long queues. It's all well and fine that Soul enjoyes tanking, but wow would be a better for it, if healers and tanks get some changes other than to defences or damage.
Great Copium cup, pass on the T-shirt! Similar views about TWW and DF, except I loved Researchers under fire 😂. DF as casual got me to play regularly, warmed by continuing improvements. So much so that I will be returning to dungeons and lfr after 6 years of ignoring them (group events, follower dungeons, remix to thank for). Crafting was problematic but ready for TWW changes. I was concerned WoW would continue to exist. Now I am confident it's rebirthing itself into a version adapted to its present audience rather than trying to dictate players how to play. Ty for your prof and updates, love your chill no hype style.
Balance in wow still feels like too many chefs in the kitchen. I can see what they want to do with the tank changes, but 10% nerfs are not nearly enough to move to a place where healers need to heal. by season 2 tanks will be right back to where they are now since gear is exponential and secondary stats are logarithmic.
Idk mang, if I play my tank how I'm supposed to, and then end up dying cus the healer can't keep up or doesn't know how to heal, I'ma log off for like a week.
Hope someone can help answer this , are you still able to get io points for mythic plus after pre patch I’m currently at 3399 and would love to hit my goal of 3500
@@SoulSoBreezy thanks for answering! so just to clarify, we can still collect io points even if we are way past KSH/KSM. would love to push for 3500 before war within starts.
with Dungeons being reduced in difficulty and less about spiky damage, it's no surprise that Tanks are next on the Chopping Block. i have all 6 Tank specs in my compendium of characters, i saw this coming a mile away. btw Soul, when are you doing some TWW outro songs with Bob?
Tanks and health pools needed changes, but it is important to note that a big reason healing, and lack of healers in some high end content, is because dps have way too many defensives with defensive creep ramping up each season with one shot mechanics requiring an insane amount of CC coordination and defensive usage. I agree tanks, especially with the new health changes, needed to be tuned down, but for everyone to miss that dps defensives and mechanics issues are far more troublesome is worrying. I would love to see defensive creep addressed next, but Hero talents added even more defensives into the game... we will see.
Healing parses that no one focuses on prot pala are 99th percentile but your damage is greys and greens, unless your team is severely lacking in heals (which it is) a prot paladin has way more damage throughput than healing, i get you wanted to show your meme healing parses off but presenting them as a data set to prove a point "you can play however you want and still preform!" is so beyond weekend warrior week 15 AOTC
I know it's not a popular opinion, however I'll always have a soft spot for Shadowlands (despite it's flaws) as it keep me from going crazy those early years of COVID lockdowns.
Most tank content creators' reaction was overly emotional, reactive, not holistic and they caused undue panic. I credit you, Soul, for not falling into that trap. 👍 The issue that has been facing WoW for a long while now is due to the bloat of defensives and thus the bloat of incoming encounter mechanics and thus the bloat of stops / kicks and THUS an overwhelmingly unfun experience for everyone. Folks need to chill and let Blizzard cook for a while. They finally recognize the core issue and are STARTING to do something about it. It started with a reduction in DPS defensives, it's now at the tank defensives stage and next is the required encounter tuning stage which they specifically said they would do, and have already started doing. Let them cook, and maybe the community will stop panicking because almost every tank content creator / influencer went raging to post whines on their respective channels. Sheesh. We are all on the same team here and panic serves no one. Thanks for being a steady force, Soul.
Well starting off by nerfing tanks and nothing else is ass backwards. And if you don't main tank at high levels you honestly shouldn't even be talking about it at all.
I'm skittish whenever I do specific coverage like that because my pov (KSM/Heroic) isn't what viewers are interested in. Not to mention just how I tank lol. It's on my mind, but you won't see anything like that until shortly before the season starts when the takes actually mean something.
@@SoulSoBreezy totally man. You’ve just mained prot for so long you opinion has more weight to me than most. Like how I enjoyed, “can’t these people take a hit?” 🤣
I really enjoyed DF almost all the way through, I didn’t like the renown locked content. Loved going to forbidden reach and amirdrassil for the first time. Both those zones were super fun for me. Like you, I really enjoyed just flying around and looking for neat stuff. I feel like DF really accomplished that well. Never much downtime because of all the events as well. Though I didn’t love the grind and slow building of professions, I think it was the first time where I wanted to try out every profession! I thought there were enough interesting little subplots in every trade path that I was compelled to keep all my alts busy. Just wish it hadn’t been so tedious to max them out. I’m an altoholic so I wasn’t able to max every trade but I feel like the penultimate rewards for doing so were pretty good? They could have been huger. I’m not saying every trade should end with some sort of mount or mount equivalent, but it helps. Maybe the overreaching story arc of DF wasn’t as amazing as previous expansions, but I really enjoyed getting a lot more depth out of the landscape and its denizens. Still sad we don’t have playable tuskarr or gnolls though. I’m an anomaly as I really liked both Legion AND Warlords, but I feel like maybe DF surpasses. I don’t know that I’m so much excited about TWW as I am all the QOL changes that make the game better. Not just alt friendly, but player friendly. It’s been 20 years, they might as well get started in that.
I have loved DF and have played more of it than any other expansion. I still think WotLK is still my favorite but that is mostly lore wise. I am excited for TWW.
At what level was that? +3-5? 12 and up? Alot of tanks are really worried we are moving into another kite meta like in shadowlands and we all remember how anti fun that shit was. And tuning will come sure but no one enjoys playing overtuned content the first few weeks espeically when its avoidable if they listen to the beta testers
@@Eleriol84 10-12. REsearch "One Azeroth" he uses blood, who people were worried about. You'll see while tough, it's about the same really. Only reason people even wipe is due to not knowing mechanics.
They will revert the tank thing a month into season 1. most will just see it as a nerf and not care about blizzards plan. pugs will drop off a cliff as tanks just won't bother.
@@ShadowsOfThePast a lot don’t want to do m+ anymore, this will give more an excuse. The changes will seem bad as tanks were rocking it, that will be all that matters.
@@PatrickF.Fitzsimmons Well M+ felt/feels bad to healers too hence the changes they are trying to make. I for one would love to get back to healing but after reading about the way "healers" are in M+ these days it didn't encourage much. If I go to a dungeon as a healer I wanna mostly be healing and not CC or clearing affixes or DPSing. Ofc sometimes there's some downtime where one can do other stuff too but it shouldn't be the expected norm.
DF has been the most fun I’ve had playing WoW since TBC. Except professions. I just can’t get into how convoluted they now are. Hopefully TWW will remove some of the friction I’m finding with them.
The bones are still there. specs are more straightforward as in you don't have to jump to different spec trees to improve on a craft you like (alchemy is kind of an exception). and the switch from inspiration to concentration takes the guesswork out.
I have really enjoyed Dragonflight and totally looking forward to TWW. On the tank changes, I main a tank and mess around healing mostly to better understand how I can support better. Our guild is casual, going for AotC but generally avoid mythic raid. We get our portals but dont push too high on the key range. I have to say I still am not enjoying the current changes and here is why: in normal and pug content (not pushing keys) I have never been bored as a healer LOL. I appreciate not needing to spam heal the tank so I can pay attention to everything else going on. Now this is when playing with people who do not outgear the content. I do agree that a healer should not be concerned about having to push DPS, they need to focus on heals, negative effects and other stuff that negatively impact the performance of their team. I do not have a single healer in our guild that has ever once said "Man I wish I could heal the tank more I am SO bored". It just does not happen. As for tanks, I can live with the changes but in the content I run it is less fun TBH. I think the real issue is the attempt to combine the same rules to the casual player vs the MDI top %'s. They have made a first step in how they change the affixes which I think is in the right direction. That said, I really think that when they are dealing with World first pushes and top title ratings, these should be taken in a more controlled manner that do not get influenced by the standard gameplay. They have a similar approach to PvP (not that I am saying that would work here, just that it is handled differently). As an example, when dealing with race to world first for a raid, why not handle that like you do a beta. The teams sign up and port their character to a realm where the AH, boss loot and economy are controlled to exactly what Blizz wants to make for a challenging and fun to watch race without impacting those areas for the rest of the casual players in the game during this time period.
if it was separated logically, it would be separated mentally as well. and lose much of it's intriguing character due to people stopping to care as much.
It's wild to me that some people are explicitly saying that they hate the notion of tanks needing healers. Like... in that case wouldn't it bother you even more that DPS need healers?
Yeah, Thrall rewrote history when it came to the mak’gora between him and the One True Warchief… he cheated, and now he’s trying to blame it on Big Daddy Garrosh! 😂
That was mostly S1 right? I didn't notice the strain at the KSM level at least, and with the higher keys focusing on just the dungeon I figure it'll be easier to tune lower/higher keys independently so they don't affect everyone at once.
@@SoulSoBreezy Yeah it was. As someone who has tanked since vanilla i just honestly buckled under the preassure of having to remember different routes for different affixes and doing very specific pulls the same every time while also having to kite the mobs which i just really hated. I'd honestly rather have tanks being a bit too self reliant rather then having to kite. I dont know if there is a sweet spot because as soon as kiting becomes valuable its going to be "mandatory".
I’m so happy to read so many comments with the same love/contentment/joy from people playing DF. I love(d) every bit of it. The last time I played on a regular was bfa, last raids were in legion. Picked all back up and never did so much in an ex as in this one. I’ll miss it, TWW has to be really good to top this one. Btw, I’m not talking about the lore or other obvious mishaps, just the player’s experience of a very mediocre player ❤
DF was great for me. It is an RPG so a good mix of story and action goes along way. Was it perfect nope, but it was a solid 9/10 for me. Hope they make a Remix of TBC, LK or Legion someday that'd be cool, Panda was really fun.
DF definitely felt like a breath of fresh air. I think in time it will rank with MoP and Legion. Also this has been the only time I've ever seen my guild steadily increase population throughout the expansion and have to do multiple raids just to get everyone who wants to raid in. I can only hope TWW meets what DF did.
Not having watched the entire vid yet, but i kinda agree, i feel like tanks are a bit op atm. even with half hc/mythic gear from s3 into s4 i didnt really have an issue tanking +8-10 in a guild group where players knew what they were doing. even more so in raids, tanking feels kinda boring because you gear check hc raids super fast and tanks dont have that many mechanics to do in fights, mostly just taunt at the right place or run away with an explosion mechanic. Making me think when i need to use my defensives rather than almost on cd is way more interesting.
DF was pretty good from my point of view, although as I have told you many times before since I skipped the dark ages of borrowed power that modifies my perspective. I have taken a wait and see approach to the tuning approach Blizzard appears to be taking going into TWW. If it is turns out balanced cool, if tank survivability absolutely plummets well, we should all understand when it creates an environment with a significant number of un happy players who voice it and say I told you so. Because if the tank cannot stay alive nobody has fun in group content. It will require a significant shift in multiple roles that players choose to playing the game, and that could cause some issues given how far Blizzard moved away from a model where tank survivability was a significant factor over the course of what I guess is multiple expansions and thus years. The other side of this is healers will absolutely have less globals to burn on some DPS that is oblivious to the mechanic killing them that they could have avoided and the healer no longer has time to cover their ass. I think the big fear is Blizzard's track record with tuning especially at launch is not exactly regarded as being good. I dig the mug, what size of a mug is it? I need to know if it will blend in with the collection. Also is coopium done in lines, rolled, popped? The shirt yes anything that feels close to iron on in a hard no. Are you using the beefy T heavy cotton or light weight cotton which is more popular today? I hope for the later and that the print seamlessly blends in with the feel of the shirt. Otherwise I would be inclined to pass. Hope that makes since and is the feedback you were asking for. I have appreciated your profession guides and look forward to seeing the others. Keep up the great work dude!
Mug can come in different sizes so I'll make sure there're options for people. The shirt itself is soft which I like, and also makes the print feel all the more awkward with 0 breathing on the whole of the print. Hoping the version coming in will feel better.
as a casual (I dont do anything mythic and to 90% only queueable content in pve/pvp), I was SO utterly bored during DF. dont get me wrong the alt-friendliness was awesome, but not having *any* system you could bite your teeth in was a BAD choice imo. no artifact weapon, no class hall/sanctum to upgrade, no mission table, no torghast, etc. give me at least one of these or something similar/new (power doesnt have to be tied to it), so i can grind for it and upgrade it. DF was 99% just staring at timers and idle in valdrakken and sitting in queues. and it looks like TWW will be the same... :/ I am SUPER disappointed.
Professions would have been the closest thing to scratch your itch. I look at patron crafting orders and compare them to a sort of mission table, meanwhile the outdoor activities seem cool but I haven't done enough hands on testing to say if they have any more depth than the barrage of activities DF offered all throughout.
Sure, nerf Tanks survivability somewhat, I'd say 20-30% AT THE VERY MOST. If they nerf it by 50% or even more...good luck pugging ever. Healers don't want to have to babysit the Tank and DPS 24/7, especially when people aren't holding up their end of their role. At least increase Tanks damage so they are doing 50-70% what a dps can do to make up for deficit. Blizzard, and the community as a whole need to stop implementing huge changes based on what the very top players are able to do. I see Tanks die often in pug groups while I'm dpsing or healing. People are acting like every single person that plays a tank are automatically invincible when that isn't the case.
