Features
The Reveal 802 from Tannoy is an 8" powered 2-way reference speaker that is designed for mixing and monitoring at home or in the studio. It features an active crossover filter that aims to improve timing for a wider sweet spot, plus an accurately-tuned, front-firing bass port to help ensure optimal low-frequency performance.
Equipped with a bi-amped, 140W amplifier that powers an 8" woofer and a 1" soft-dome tweeter, the Reveal 802 is designed to ensure maximum power, tonal clarity, and low-frequency response. It also features adjustable volume and EQ settings to customize the tuning of the speaker to compensate for acoustical deficiencies that may be present in your monitoring environment.
Included in the box of each monitor, is a 5-meter 1/8" (3.5mm) jack cable. Combined with the AUX Link feature, this allows you to plug into your laptop or portable music player's headphone output and link two Reveal 802 monitors for an instant stereo setup with no need for external interfaces. This is convenient for mixing on-the-go or for times when you just want to listen to some of your favorite music from your mobile device.

The 802 are good enough ,and great monitor great speakers for the price but the gold 8 have better mids, highs, Bass more accurate ,and more powerful, and have better quality amplifier

I notice the freq. range specs on the Gold 8 are much narrower than with the reveal. Can anyone explain what this means in practice and theory. If you're saying the Gold 8 goes lower, I guess it means the physical materials part is producing a good bass signal, but technically don't the specs show a limitation? Gold 8 shows Bass reflex system Frequency range: 54 - 20,000 Hz. Reveal shows bass reflex opening, Frequency range: 42 Hz - 43 kHz (so 12 hz lower, and 23 khz higher!!!)

Specifications say... How the speakers are tuned, that is where the bi-amp crossover is set may make the difference....

Do the Gold monitors exhibit the same internally generated hiss as the Reveal? This constant hiss when idle drives me insane. I'm considering moving from Reveal 502 to Gold 8 but only if the issue of audible hiss when listening at near-field distances is also addressed.

I don't think the hiss is from the speakers, probably the pre amp source is the problem, from the tannoy 601a I didn't have this noice

@@boseandfriends9284 The Reveals exhibit this tweeter hiss with nothing connected and volume control on minimum (volume does not affect hiss level). Tannoy claim this hiss is 'within spec' - but it's annoying when sat ~1m from the speakers. I'm curious if the Gold Monitors have the same issue.

@@SteveNetting A commenter in another review said that the Gold 5s have the hiss while the reviewer said it wasn't noticeable in contrast to his previous speakers. Wish that issue was addressed more seriously.

Reveals are goot for working with music. If you need a general acoustic for every day - try non-special PC speakers. I can recommend you something like Edifier R1700T3.

Turn up the volume and sit back.... Perhaps adjust so the speakers are not angled inward. Hope that helps. I'd skip mid-field and go big field. Cheers from Seattle! As for HiFi, absolutely! You may want to EQ as these are designed for a flat response for pro audio recording production, thus will sound different from typical home speakers.
