Always great to see one of Troy's latest 510s. Last time I had mine there at his shop, he was finishing up a beautiful burnt orange Bluebird Coupe with a Rebello L series. Dude does amazing work. Good on ya mates, keep up the good work and keep those 510s coming.
Never too late to get back in, only the prices have been going up for these cars, but patience and persistence can pay off in locating a good solid car to have fun with.
510Finnatic I have been looking in my area. There are a few 720 trucks around but no dimes. Unfortunately I moved to the South from Arizona. Everybody's into 4 wheel drive jacked up trucks out here 90% of the people don't even know what a 510 is in North Georgia. My blood is Tainted with Datsun, I will have another one in the future
I can appreciate all the work that went into this car to make it look so simple. It’s easy to make something look chaotic but this car is seamless 👌🏻. I start my Datsun 620 build soon and I think this made me lean more toward l20b than ka24de.
Talk about kicking yourself. I had a chance to buy a decent 510 several years ago. It was a 4 door and someone had painted it John Deere green. I passed on buying the car. They look like fun project cars.
The houndstooth seats look the business, good styling. Would 4 gauze covers over those carburetor trumpets be a good idea ? Just thinking about little stones and bugs being sucked in them.
the '06W' 2.2 block is a boat anchor compared to the 'U60' L20B block. the L20B block is more rigid with its more robust skirt section. you can take the U60 bores out to 90mm with no problems. why use the Z22 block? also the U60 crankcase breather is right where you want it with the 46mm SU carbs. twin choke carbs not a good idea for a normally-aspirated street motor- no air speed at low rpm. the U60 crankshaft is fine with 10,000 rpm- the bigger cranks bend or even fail at that speed. never had rust problems in my cars and i use floor sound deadening in all my street cars. if you build a motor using a Z24 crank , then use the Z24 block. too bad it won't fit properly in the pl510, but it will work fine in the trucks, 610, 710, S10, or A10 510 (77-81), or 810/910. there's no substitute for cubic inches or long rods! the important thing about building 510s is never forget you are building a severe-duty STREET car- not a race car.
Thanks for watching mate, for us this was the best build Datsun at Sema. We’d be more than happy with a 235hp Rebello boat anchor engine 😉 and Troy certainly knows his Datsun’s!!! But thanks so much for your comment! Cheers Ryan and Pete
Sadly no airbags to S Y A in an accident on the road. A must have when you have been in a face plant or two of a gun powder airbag.. At 68 we see a reality of life. and walking away,
john johnson hey mate! Thanks for watching!! It was custom mix so you may need to contact Troy and team at Datsun parts outlet direct Cheers Ryan and Pete
GrassRoots Garage . Was it based around any colour ? Is it flat grey or metalic or pearl etc . Been looking for a grey for a while and that just pops !?
sipposbft thanks for the comment mate, We totally get your point and I "Ryan" actually have a SR 510 but there is really something about that oldschool sound that can’t be beat!!! In perfect world I’d have my sr 510 and another one built exactly like this! Thanks for watching Ryan and Pete!
