Before there was a Madonna or Cher, who say & use shock value techniques for publicity or artistic purposes, we had the original & authentic Tanya. I think the industry used it against her. Had Tanya been a man, she would've gotten the recognition & accolades she so richly deserves.
She had a mature voice for 13, sounds like she smoked a pack a day. Is that technique some type of vibrato? Love how a lot of country singers use it. Keith Sweat always uses his.
...I was gonna leave it, but...**"DELTA DAWN" TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...this one's a bit tricky.... _ "Delta Dawn" was a tune written by a Country singer who recorded it for his 1972 Album...OK, follow me, now......It was going to be done by Helen Reddy, FIRST....Then, the songwriter produced another version, & wanted to give it to a new Singer at the time, named...BETTE MIDLER, after he saw her on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson", while she was working on her debut Album.... ....Bette recorded HER version, WITHOUT knowing the Songwriter was going to give it to her, and she released it, with the B-Side, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"....Since Bette already recorded it, The songwriter decided to give HIS version, to 13 year Old Tanya Tucker, meaning both versions came out the SAME TIME.... ...Tanya's version started making headway FAST (mostly on the Country charts), so Bette's label STOPPED promotion on HER version, and started promoting the B-SIDE, "BWBB", which became her FIRST Top Ten Pop hit!! ..Then, Helen was offered the tune (with a different arrangement) for her "Long Hard Climb" Album, in 1973, and rush-released it, to 'beat' Bette's version, and HELEN'S version, hit #1 on the Pop charts!! ...WHEW!! ..Delta was a POPULAR B-tch!! ...ha-HAAA!! ...AH, f--- it, here's the Top Ten when HELEN'S version, hit the top spot, Sept., 1973.... 10. A "Castle in the sky" (or in this case "mansion") used to be what you called a day dream. "Delta Dawn" is about a woman who fell in love with a liar who promised her everything to seduce her and then left without her, breaking her heart and driving her a little crazy. He promised to meet her and take her away, so now she goes downtown looking for him every day, waiting for him to come back for her.
Girl, you have the best voice ever! I could listen to you talk all day! Anyway, this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Let me listen and watch and say more after. 😊
Catchy! Listening to "Delta Dawn" always takes me back to hearing the song on the radio at my grandmother's house in 1972. These days that bass line leaves me wondering if the studio in Nashville borrowed a player from Memphis or Muscle Shoals the day they recorded this!
I love Tanya Tucker! ❤️. Thanks for reacting to her. Some of my favorites beside Delta Dawn are Blood Red and Goin Down, What's Your Mama's Name, Would You Lay With Me In a Field of Stone-and so many more. 👍
Helen Reddy recorded a cover of Delta Dawn. She’s a great Australian singer who was big in the 70s, and had the hit feminist anthem ‘I Am Woman’ in ‘71. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rptW7zOPX2E.html She had a lot of nice songs like “Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady’ ‘Peaceful’, ‘Somewhere in the Night’, ‘Angie Baby’
