Aw thanks Jamie, yes the heritage here is definitely being cherished now. It’s hard to believe that the Odeon was originally built over! Thanks for watching. Tomorrow’s video is going to be about one of my favourite places in my hometown 🥰
@@edwardacton3242 oh fab! If you’re doing a daytrip, Catania is great. I made a video about that. So many lovely places in Sicily. We’re probably going to go back for a couple of weeks in October. New favourite place!
Aww, how long did you go for the first time? My only regret is not visiting Isola Bella as the grottoes look enchanting, but it’s so difficult to see every part of a place when visiting for the first time ☺️
Yes August wouldn’t be for everyone as it’d be too hot. I personally would prefer to visit during the cooler months and would not visit during August myself. Taormina was spotless and we didn’t encounter a problem with garbage in other places. It’s fair to say that some of the buildings are in great need of some TLC and unfortunately there is a lot of tagging in some areas. Taormina didn’t have this problem though.
It’s a very beautiful place and felt very safe. The only real downside was what I covered in the video and that it was not possible to relax near Isola Bella due to being constantly asked for a Thai massage, but we did not encounter this problem anywhere else. Hospitality was friendly enough, but the prices varied a lot - try to eat on the outskirts as much as possible. Every footstep seemed to make a difference to the price! It’s very geared up for tourists as that’s how they make most of their money in Taormina. That’s why we liked the cafe I mentioned as locals used it. It was homemade, cheaper and felt more authentic as they were earning a living by serving the local community, opposed to predominantly tourists. If I had to work there for a while, I’d be happy about it.
Catania is fab. Mussomeli is about 90 miles away so it’s probably possible to get a coach but you might have to change. We didn’t go there so I’m afraid I don’t know. It was easy to travel to Taormina and Syracuse by bus for a day trip.
Have you visited? Yes it’s very beautiful but I know what you mean…it only seems to be geared up for tourism/hospitality so definitely lacks character because of that. I much preferred Catania because people are going about their daily lives and the city doesn’t predominately revolve around tourism.
