Not a bad video for a guy with only one hand. LOL. Love that profile machine. Basically eliminating oil canning completely. For me to get one of those in Canada definitely going to have to order it. I'm new in the aluminum bending game but seems like everyone who's doing it is from the 60s. LOL now I know where I'm over exaggerating but I have found in this industry people just do not like change. However they learn how to do it 30 years ago as how they're still teaching people how to do it. There are so many new tools available for bending aluminum but yet people still want to whip out their exacto blade to cut the aluminum. If you're only bending aluminum occasionally I understand using your knife. But if you're doing it on a daily basis and you're using a knife you're just crushing your budget

Greetings from Glassboro NJ Len. I happened upon you video as I am making fascia for my 1950's garage. I have an old Tapco brake that my brother and I bought used and this is the first time I am actually using it. I watched a few videos of other on how to make a hem and I am disappointed that the brake I have does not enable me to make the first bend enough to follow up with the hem. the 10 foot piece just slips out of the brake and thus I can't hem. So frustrated as I tool vacation time to get this done and now I am in a jam. BTW, I like that ribbing tool. I started off as a tool designer about 35 plus years ago and really appreciate anything having to do with metal and metal working.

Eplum, thank you for watching and commenting, the "pro 3" was designed to make a hem. I have a ton of videos I made with a Sony camcorder, but I don't know how to get them on to you tube, I sure you could get something out of them, I show step by step, how I work the brake/Tapco pro 3 If you bend a piece as far as your brake will bend it, release the brake, slide the material out a ½" or so, lock the brake again, take a block of wood and gently slide it over the bend you made, putting pressure to close the metal together, when you get it flat, then unlock the brake, take the material out,, relock the brake empty and put the hem you made in the anvil section and close the material flat

Have been in trades for 30+ yrs and have never used it but have always wondered how that profile would affect how the gutter would lay flat against the fascia? I always bend my fascia 1/2"×1"×6-1/2", usually 8" stock on 5-1/2" fascia, this profile recreates the 1/2" reveal on normal wood fascia and soffit

@lendavidhart9710 2 года назад
Hi Kevin, that profile bump isn't much, it seems like gutters never really sit that flat anyway, thanks Len

Its always nice to put three nails in the top one in each end and one in the center. I've had trim to fall off years later this will stop that. When you reroof the house material won't fall behind the trim thats such a pain. Or at that point the trim can fall off if its not nailed at top. Roofing is not delicate work. Just ask a roofer.

Dave, thanks for your comment, i have been around roofing to a degree, and have worked with roofers on siding jobs etc. Each job is different, best wishes for your work ahead of you! Thanks Len

I agree Dave with your suggestion. But when it comes to oil canning the drip edge should be able to hold the top of it no problem. if your drip edge doesn't completely grab enough of it then you might have to use a few Nails in the top of it. In Ontario this aluminum is expanding and Contracting way too much. The less Nails in the face is always best for this climate. Southern Ontario. You guys all have great ideas and I enjoy reading and watching

@@danmarion145 for me anyways, i would simply double bend my soffit tab over on itself, and that action alone forces the face of the facia to stay rigid and strong.

If I ever get a chance to build my own house and going to flash every damn thing in the house. I'm talking Windows Doors. Roof edges as well as Peaks and valleys, $5,000 in aluminum. If this job is done correctly imagine how much money you would save yourself if you planned on staying there forever. I'm sure other people have suggestions on where we could use aluminum to make every single tradesperson job easier when it comes to Future maintenance and repairs in a building

I see your right handed. Try pushing from from right of brake to left with tool in right hand. With left on center out side of tool pushing in. Tell me if this makes a difference.

Brooks, i have an old Tapco, that was my dad's the original "Windy" special, the throat is only 10", and the anvil part was made of aluminum, and wore out! From the knife cutting into it after the years of use, later Tapco came out with the stainless steel forming edge, Thanks Len.
