In this video, we will be looking at the Waterworks Tapping Bands. This range is designed and manufactured in Australia and are renowned for their high-quality and ease-of-use. Applications include Agricultural, Municipal and Civil, Horticultural, Swimming pools, Irrigation, and Frost protection.
Now, let’s have a look at the specifications.
- There are three distinct groups within this range, and all are colour coded for different pipe types. This removes confusion for the installer and makes product selection quick and easy.
- Firstly, we have the white-coloured tapping bands, which are for series 1 white PVC, available in sizes 40mm - 300mm. Sizes 40mm and 50mm have 20mm and 25mm BSP offtake options, whereas 80mm - 300mm have 20mm through to 50mm offtake options.
- Next, we have the blue tapping bands which are suited to the blue series 2 PVC pipe. These are also suited to ductile iron, or what is known as DI pipe, and Asbestos Cement, known as AC pipe. These are available in 100mm through to 300mm, with BSP offtake options available between 20mm to 50mm.
- We also have black tapping bands, which are suited to Metric OD Polyethylene pipe. Available in sizes 63mm through to 315mm and offtake options of 20mm and 25mm BSP for 63mm tapping bands, and 20mm through to 50mm BSP for the rest of the range.
- They are manufactured from a high-grade engineered, glass reinforced, nylon resin, which gives them superior strength, even stronger than some metals, whilst also eliminating corrosion issues.
- The nuts and bolts are made from 316 Stainless Steel. The nut is coated in a dry molybdenum coating, which is an anti-galling compound. Eliminating binding when installing stainless-steel threads.
- The metal reinforcing ring is also made from 316 Stainless steel.
- All tapping bands come with an elastomeric EPDM rubber seal. This unique E-Lip seal can withstand both pressure and vacuum. The only exception is the white tapping bands in sizes 40mm and 50mm, which have an O-ring type seal.
- There are anti-rotation lugs which are moulded into the band to prevent slipping and turning on the pipe. Other types of rotational movement prevention systems require an insert around the bore which reduces flow and requires you to drill an inlet hole prior to installation, whereas the Waterworks tapping bands don’t restrict the flow and allow you to drill the inlet hole after installation.
- All three tapping bands are pressure rated to PN16 at 20℃, however the pressure rating must be de-rated if used above 20℃.
- They are designed to withstand a temperature range of -40℃ to +70℃.
- The range has been approved by a majority of councils throughout New Zealand for use on council water mains, they are certified by Watermark, they are manufactured to AS/NZS 4793, and have been appraised by WSAA.
