Tapping The Oil Pan For The On3 Turbo Return Line Fitting Fox Body Budget Build.
Back out in the shop to install the return line fitting in the oil pan hope this will help you guys out if you ever have to tap your oil pan. 3/8 18 NPT tap is what you need to do this and just take your time as i did.I couldn't find the oil pan punch online so i made my own it has to have a 5/8 base if you make one or have a machine shop make you one. Hope to get the trans in soon then we can get back on the motor. So keep a eye out for that and as always thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing the specifics of this, I don't have a turbo kit yet but have my engine torn apart and will be installing a port in this location for future use as the return line so it will be there when I do get to that point.

Good move I should have done mine when I had the pan off but wasn’t planning on doing a turbo build at the time.

Good video. I drilled my block first time around. It was a real pain. Adding another turbo to my sons car. Im going to tackle the oil pan. Looks way easier.

GearHead704 yeah that’s a good price compared to the DEI that stuff is expensive just not looking forward to that project going to be time consuming.

just curious , do you have to have the oil pan punch with a 5/8s base or can you just use a 5/8s punch without a base

Yeah I made mine. As long as it’s a 5/8 punch you should be fine just make sure it’s not bigger.

I machined the punch you can’t buy them anymore more and you can search for a spiral fluted tap but you can use a straight fluted tap as well this one just helps to clear the chips.

j c I like it this is my first turbo. I’m still working on it you know how it is you got to have the money in order to buy parts but I’m almost there. If you know of any machine shops in your area you might be able to get them to make you one if you can’t get one made let me know and I’ll send you mine.👍

Maybe a dumb question but why if the fitting is 3/8 is your punch 5/8???? I just ordered my turbo kit & am going to need to do this in the near future & don't want to get anything wrong

It’s for the NPT thread it’s a tapering thread. It sounds crazy but that’s the size it has to be for the thread. I’m a CNC guy so it will work no problems. BTW they don’t make the punches anymore I had to make this one.
