This the best video i have seen on power tapping holes. I have also been watching over the weeks your other vids on bridgeport milling. I bought a bridgeport last month and have learned soo much from you! Your vids clear short and informative. Please keep producing these sir and thank you very much.
I use a Grizzly Mill/Drill that is set up for power tapping and I find the spiral flute taps to be excellent. They also work well in a cordless drill on the lowest speed setting. I've tapped lots of holes in aluminum and mild steel and have yet to break a tap.
I just found your channel and watched several videos. You give very good detailed information and it is all very clearly explained. Thank you. Keep up the good work. Subscribed!
Your part also needs to be TIGHTLY held in the vise or the tap will pull it out, or partially pull the part up, jam and break the tap. The vise needs to be secured to the table to prevent the vise from being lifted from the table by the tap. These are all things I have witnessed in working with students. If I am tapping holes on the Bridgeport I limit the size to 1/2” or less because larger sizes are really pushing it on a light duty machine such as a knee mill with a drill chuck. For larger sizes I use a tapping head.
