Tara Brach on Self Forgiveness with RAIN [2022-05-18]
Our inability to forgive ourselves blocks healing and freedom. As we explore in this talk, the habit of judging and blaming ourselves traps us in fears, prevents intimacy with our world and veils over the goodness and mystery of who we are. This talk includes several reflections that can support us as we cultivate a wise and forgiving heart.

Thank you for posting. This message was for me and my family. I am waking up from a trance of unworthiness. the area I need to focus on is self-forgiveness the talk supplied me with the language and format I need to stick with the pain, aguinsh, disappointment and shame. This has given me hope that I am on the right path.

Thank you Tara. I have never commented before but this talk spoke directly to my heart. It is one of the most sincere, liberating and deeply. loving talks I have ever heard. I have spent a lifetime blaming myself - even as a young child I blamed myself for my parent’s unhappy marriage - and prayed at night that I would be ‘good’ forever if that would make them happy. Of course I was destined to fail, and continued to blame and deprive myself of many t things, believing that I must be bad. I carried that into other areas of my life, and now at the age of 60, I still find it so difficult to forgive myself for many things. I experienced the possibility of deep healing with your words and practices, and now I carry the aspiration for forgiveness. Heartfelt thanks, and love to to all those struggling with similar issues. Love Julie ❤️

"(17:41) If you were different, if you were better, what would that do for you? What would it give you?" - a powerful question, Tara, thank you! My answer is approval of others.

Beautiful, human Tara...thank you so much for sharing this self forgiveness talk with so much vulnerability. I see the post modern world that we live in as one which has put away the whips, chains, and barbed wire in exchange for the more convenient and efficient way to assault humanity...through shame, blame, trauma and unworthiness. It takes so much awareness and wisdom to cope with this life. I really needed to hear your voice today, and will come back to this talk when the world is "too much with me."

I just fell upon this today and found it’s timing was so perfect…I love the total honesty Tara spoke of with how our deeply held beliefs about forgiveness make it seem as though it is for others and not for oneself. The 2 stories were so heart touching that they gave this hardened heart of mine hope that I too can forgive myself. I know very deeply that this is key to the freedom from all my own sufferings and I look forward to returning to this practice again and again till there is no more hardness in my heart towards myself and towards others…thank you Tara💜🙏💜🙏

Thank you for this, Tara. I needed this today and I’ll be coming back to it often. I’ve heard you many times on Dan Harris’ podcast and like him always thought the “hand on the heart” was schmaltzy. But I tried it this time and it helped me start to release something very painful. Not quite there yet but much closer than I was an hour ago. Thank you. Thank you. 🙏

Would contracting polio at two and a half be considered trauma?
@Poco555

What is wrong with feeling bad or lonely or distant and not a part of if we can address the feelings as feelings and not the truth, to tenderly hold and breathe through the feelings and at the same time drop any story line and know that these feelings are not facts and need our absolute attention and compassion and love because which only we can give ourselves in those times? I was screaming at God some months ago and demanding why I had to love myself for a bit but then move out of myself into the world and I got the answer in a flash, like when there is a storm and lightning strikes so that the whole front yard lights up and you can see things you couldn't see before and something from my soul replied BECAUSE YOU KNOW BETTER At what point do we surrender to choosing life and not getting stuck and indulging in our story because, by now, we know better. I pray what I just said makes sense, because at some point we do know better And we no longer try to be different because we have been being different and now we are the same as before the trauma and shame I may sound like a crazy person and, well, I probably am a bit crazy. I'm just not different anymore. I'm more like the same...the same as perhaps I am meant to be Always Jo

At about 20s on vid, I am confused...you mention that perhaps, letting go, or doing differently, could mean that I am bad? Seems counter intuitive, for me...what am I missing? 😳🙏

The division, the separate-Ness in ourselves. Accepting and forgiving IS the prerequisite to freedom I sense that people may understand the words of self forgiveness, but have a damned time getting what that really means, and are we Willing to be at peace. Can we, are we willing to be in a moment, to be that moment with no judgment. Are we willing, on a cellular level, to literally tolerate the willingness...and I don't mean willing like willing to take out the trash, but willing like the grass is to grow or the branches of the trees to reach for the sun, but willing in our DNA . What would we do for aggravation and I'm not being shallow. Who would we be if we thought we were different or better? We can't because we would never believe it and feel we no longer have control We would have to give up being special because of our badness and our unforgivable selves and give up being special even if we think we have forgiven ourselves. We would have to love being ordinary. We would have to learn to value feeling fine if we did nothing and make mistakes and choices based in shame and fear Can we not feel homecoming and connection if we accept ourselves unconditionally? What a great ride it is...this life Always Jo 34:20
