A Masterpiece .....How lucky we are that Max Steiner created this masterpiece so that humanity can enjoy it 80 yrs hence....and presumably will still be listening to it in the 22nd century .
Max Steiner was a very talented composer to develop the entire music score to this extraordinary motion picture, starting with Tara's theme & individual themes for the main characters as well as background music to set the mood for each them. Kudos to Mr. Steiner!
LazlosPlane you’re talking above my knowledge level. I just like the way they sound. Musicians may have more intimate knowledge of the ins and outs of the French horn.
LazlosPlane I don’t. I’m not much of an orchestra guy other than listening to film scores. I’ll definitely take your word for it and listen closer. When they pull it off they sound good. But maybe I just am not musically adept enough to notice. Lol.
Que delicia escuchar estos chicos tocar tan maravillosa música !!!! The perfect music for the perfect film. I love to see these youngsters playing so beautifully. I love GWTW, Thank you for this sublime video!!!
Great job. How wonderful to see so many young, talented musicians playing this classic motion picture music, as powerful today as it was in 1939. The only surprise is that this arrangement does not place more emphasis on the high note at the 1:28 mark as was case with the original version, complete with cymbal crash. Maximillian Steiner was a genius when you consider the entire body and scope of his work, from King King to GWTW. I will always remember seeing a re-release of GWTW in the early 1970's at a large, packed NYC theater, when the audience applauded when the title traveled across the screen while the MGM Orchestra played Tara's Theme. Thanks so much for posting this video.
trapezemusic Thank you for your comment. It triggered memory. I was 17 when I saw it for the first time on the big screen. It was re-released in '74 for its 35th anniversary. Was already obsessed with the book, so my first impression of the film was that it was too short! Took a film score elective my senior year of college and did my term paper on the score of GWTW. If I call correctly, Selznick told Mr. Steiner he wanted plenty of "schmaltz." Think it was also Mr. Steiner who popularized having themes for characters and couples and even plantations!
- Professor Girafales! - Dona Florinda! - Que milagre o Senhor por aqui! - Vim te trazer esse humilde presente.. - Oh, mas o senhor não gostaria de entrar pra tomar uma xícara de café.? - Não seria muito incomodo? - Claro que não, entre! - Depois da senhora..
I watch this recordinf for the first time, but I'm very familiar with the Steiner's score in its various recordings. Good orchestra, good direction, unfortunately the sound recording is poor and betray the musicians performance. In spite of this I appreciate the performance, arrangement melting the main title song with the music underscoring the end of the movie part one "I"ll never be hungry again" , quite smart piece of music. Max was a genius I love his music !
