I'm trying to go from fly sky to X7 also. And I am completely overwhelmed. I wish they would quit using the word intuitive, this is like the last thing on the planet that is intuitive
If you are getting this transmitter and plan on running a different battery, when you have the case apart and are disabling the spring, push the AA battery tray out from the inside. Really easy. Keep up the good work FliteTest and TJ.
Just bought mine! Have to say that build quality is not better than my Devo 7 for Walkera F210, but the features on the Taranis are awsome! Thank you for accessible knowledge. All the best
This is a great tutorial. I'm new to the hobby and I'm trying to piece together everything I want. I wasn't sure if I wanted the RTF kits but one of the quads I was looking at didn't come with a favorable controller and receiver I wanted. Its probably okay just to get started, but I was looking for a bit more but having trouble understanding what I needed to add onto a ARF model. Eventually I want to build my own but to get started, I wanted to get familiar with one and move along as I go. The most trouble I had was understanding setting this all up but this greatly helps.
Guys thank you so much this is a brilliant Video! I ordered my Black Qx7 a month ago, simply waiting on its arrival, then i can get started. Upgraded from Spektrum Dx6 to this, for the telemetry and Frsky range.. Feel a little more confident now having to learn a new Radio. Great job, thx always :)
A good tip for managing screws is to have a bit of foam nearby that you can wedge them into after they've been unscrewed. That way they're less likely to grow legs and jump off your workbench. Line them up in the order you took them out, and then when it comes time to reassemble, work backwards through the line.
I don't think you guys mentioned openTx companion. Still learning more about my taranis but I discovered that program the other day and you can plug in your TX into a computer and make models or change settings a bit faster. You can also save models and settings or restore models and to the TX. Very very useful!
Stephen hathaway OK thanks. I usually just check the channels before flying and move them about to the correct locations. I think the multi protocol module that I got on banggood uses that channel order or something so most models are OK? I can't remember because most of my models need a bit of adjustments and reversing before I can fly. It's quick and easy when you get the hang of it and you never need to do it again. This is the module: www.banggood.com/2_4G-CC2500-A7105-Flysky-Frsky-Devo-DSM2-Multiprotocol-TX-Module-With-Antenna-p-1048377.html?p=AX272015214820130323
CDC444RC maybe I'm just a bit slow but I've just not 'bonded' with the taranis... I find it a real chore using its haphazard menu system, the spektrum was a piece of piss to work out
Stephen hathaway It definitely is very different. I guess for me I feel like Spektrum is saying "for $50 we will give you another switch" Meanwhile, Frsky is packing in all the features into a very well designed radio for an amazing price. That being said, I have never used a high end Spektrum but for the lower price range they are very limited in features compared to the taranis. I started on a dx6i and I do not think I would have been able to deal with a taranis as my first radio because it would have been very difficult to understand if you are a Noob with rc. After learning rc with my dx6i the taranis is an amazing 2nd radio and I don't feel restricted anymore as I did with my dx6i. I think the old taranis had a few issues with small design flaws and the menu would be a pain with push button navigation. The new taranis takes some time to figure out but once you spend the time to learn and setup your models it is very very nice. It is also sold at a very reasonable price. I guess some of the higher up Spektrum radios could have similar features and have a better user interface but the taranis is more focused on allowing the user to do anything with the radio and it is more diy. It would be pretty hard to pack all that into something really easy to use. I guess it's similar to the Apple vs Android argument. Although maybe I should not bring that up :)
A tip for new buyers. Set up your models with the Futaba channel allocation order of AETR rather than the JR/Spectrum TAER because the new stabilised receivers S6R and S8R use the Futaba standard
Many places I have read say you should do dual rates and expo on the Inputs page, not Mixes. For a simple plane like this, it does not matter but for complex planes, having the dual rates and expo on the inputs make it available to all mixes using the input instead of copying for each mix. Also, always leave your last item on dual rates and expo with no switch so it will default to it if none of the above are active. With the way you set it up, if SA is in the middle position, you have no control (the input will be center no matter what you do with the sticks). Better to have a default so you cannot accidentally get into the dangerous position of no control.
This is a big thing i noticed, id have left the default alone, created a new line and put medium and low rate on the middle and low position of the switch, that means if your switch fails or you select the wrong mode, you still have control. OpenTx is so powerful and I still have an original 9x transmitter!!! Most people would never need to grow beyond this, short of frsky receiver support, which can be solved with an add on module. Flite Test definately need to revisit this subject and show the power and the pitfalls of this software!
I find it interesting that the sticker with the FCC id is on the top. I always figured that they put it on the cover of 9XD plus so that if you took it off to use a module, you'd nullify the FCC certification from using a different antenna.
BTW, 12:20 when taking that battery tray out, you can do that when fixing the sticks it will push out easier then grabbing with tweezers. Take the back off, unplug it and push it out. Easy Peasy!!
Global variables are located under the flight modes. For example, look under FM0 on the flight modes screen to assign global variables (which can apply to all flight modes).
Here's what I'm looking forward to - sitting in my livingroom with my HD 3D VR Goggles on enjoying a 360 Degree view of Josh Bixler flying his PPG. And the way things are developing, it won't be long...
I love my original Taranis. It doesn't have haptic but I don't think I'd use that anyway, and I do most of my setup through the computer, so menu wheel isn't a big deal either.
try the openTX companion, it has the built in wizard which will set up a model much faster than using the TX controls.. then add your new models to your list
loving your content i only have a mavic and toy drones really considering getting into FPV here is the uk, only held down by price! would love to start and do a youtube series Nothing to Something
I use the taranis x9d plus for my helicopters and i love it. especially the telemetry. but i think I'm passing this one. it looks cool but compared to the x9d plus it looks cheaper (I know it is half the price) but a good way to get a beginner tx that will last you ages.
I have this transmitter and I like it very much. I've managed to set up two planes, one of those with triple rates and expo. I desperately need for someone to show me how to set up flaperons right on the radio, NOT using open TX. I have tried to follow the videos (by others) that show how to do this and other things using Open TX and I simply cannot follow what they are doing. To top that, when I run Open TX on my computer with the Taranis plugged in, it does not look like the examples in the video. Can't someone just show me how to do this on the radio? You guys are great! My FT Simple Scout just arrived and I can't wait to get started on it.
Hi. It looks like coming in May (give or take a month) there will be 4 more color options for this radio...blue, green, orange, and purple. Will Flite Test be stocking those colors once available? Love your videos, as its some of the best content available. Best. Steve
Just purchased this from the Flite Test store in piano black! Can't wait to start flying in a simulator! I've been obsessed with freestyle fpv. What is a good simulator for learning to freestyle with a quad?
What about the use of OpenTX Companion so that all initial programming can done from the comfort of your computer? I use Companion with my 9XR and love it!
Its been about three or so years on mine with the hall effect gimbals and they are going south Time for a new transmitter ,, Sad I did the crossfire mod too so I wont be getting another one of these and doing that mod again for sure
I am waiting for mine to arrive, and when I read "7 channel" on gearbest I got a little worried, since I want to fly it in D16. I already thought: Does this mean I already need to upgrade it in some kind??? But now (after watching your great video) I suppose that they just wrote that because the preset model 1 is set up with only 7 channels. So I calmed down and now I'm really looking forward for it to arrive :-)
I use it with a lipo battery which is somewhat of a pain in terms of keeping the voltage around 7.6v to 7.8v to keep the battery within a safe range for storage. I can't justify buying all those AAs.
Have any idea why receiver will not turn on ? Green light shows up when holding down but will not turn on. Have had this for a year with NO issues. Have you experienced any issues with your receiver ?
This blows me away. I won't tell you what I spent on a DX8 and a DX9. Not to mention, their DX18 is $800 if you find it on sale. Used, it's frequently $500 or more. This radio is 16 channels, pretty much as capable and as many features as and DX8, DX9 or DX18, and MUCH less expensive at less than $110. If you're patient, you can get this radio new, for less than a hundred bucks.
this is a great video however could you do one with the camera zoomed closer to the screen and slow down the commentary, it was going so fast i couldn't keep up so i was trying to back up the video then i would either go to far or not far enough and was frustrating. one person, talking slowly and deliberately in a clear concise voice would be perfect and you'll have my business for life because i feel much more comfortable dealing with a person than a web page. thanks so much.
flite test you are a massive inspiration to me, i would love to come to flite fest but i live in britain. please could you thinck about doing one over here?
Does anyone know where I can get the 6 slot AA battery tray for the qx7? Mine didn't come with one. If anyone knows where I could find one to buy or if anyone has one and doesn't use it I would be happy to buy from you. Thanks.
I'm looking into buying this and some cheaper Eachine goggles (I'm poor and have a baby on the way 🤗) but I'm also looking to get a tiny whoop for around the house practice! Whcih tiny whoop can I buy for this controller? Total noob here 🙋🏻♂️
Hi i love all your videos but this is my first time to ask a question. What is the use of the rate in your profiles or is the effect to the plane or quad .. newbie ro rc world thanks and more power
so did this kinda replace the X9D? I ask because this one is cheaper and i wanted all the cool features of the X9D with voice packs, vibration, and opentx but didnt want throw $200 at another radio. I still have a Turnigy 9X that I have yet to mod with opentx but this new Q X7 looks tempting.
Just opened up the Taranis X7 with the left stick throttle spring deactivated... you guys probably have an extra white battery cover sitting around the shop, because mine didn’t make it back into the box 😂😂😂
Update: less than ten hours, and I’ve got a response, tracking number, and a part on the way. That’s probably the best customer service response I’ve ever seen 👍
Ive been watching you guys use it, then put it up on your store. Thanks for the Review!! Def. will be getting one now....Along with a Pre-Built RR Alien from the "Jack of all trades and master of Drones"> TJ
Couple questions: Does it have all adjustments such as expo, endpoint, mixing, dual rate etc? My hand position is with index finger around back so for thumb comfort I like the thinnest sided box so can the rubber pads be removed or somehow taken off? Finally is there a way to get the left throttle stick to ratchet with a notched spring or is there one that will fit so it will click? I like that to keep from moving throttle while using rudder. Thanks for any help.
Great info video. I have to ask, for mowvember would you guys be up for doing the infinite mustache? The one that goes from the top lip to the jaw line over the ear and follows the hair line round the back of your head over the other ear and round the jaw to meet the start. It's in the name of prostate cancer, I'm sure you guys would raise a butt load of money, and would look quite fetching with a bowler hat. Like if you dare them to.
