I believe the weighing at the finish is checking you've lost the usual amounts, and not actually gained weight from over hydrating. Always assumed it was a check against hyponatremia

Wasn't my day. I didn't think that my quads would be an issue from not being able to train for a couple of months with a stressy, as I still felt reasonably fit from cross-training. I had to pull myself at 45km with the worst feeling of DOMS ever and the only time I had DOMS in a race. I guess this is just muscle soreness since it started at 20km.

Great run John. You must have been moving at a good clip in the bits you ran given some of the issues you had along the way (bag, foot, bit of bonk).

Yes the aerobic speed that I’d worked on in training came through on the day, as you’d expect over such a long distance. Thanks

Nice job champ, I was behind you somewhere (LOL) , what do you recommend to make your quads stronger for all the steep descents? Cheers

I find longer descents in training have a better training effect on the quads than going for steeper. If you hurt yourself a little in training a few times it becomes less of a problem on race day.
