I believe the weighing at the finish is checking you've lost the usual amounts, and not actually gained weight from over hydrating. Always assumed it was a check against hyponatremia

Wasn't my day. I didn't think that my quads would be an issue from not being able to train for a couple of months with a stressy, as I still felt reasonably fit from cross-training. I had to pull myself at 45km with the worst feeling of DOMS ever and the only time I had DOMS in a race. I guess this is just muscle soreness since it started at 20km.
I find longer descents in training have a better training effect on the quads than going for steeper. If you hurt yourself a little in training a few times it becomes less of a problem on race day.
