Targeting Snakeheads & Bowfin In New Jersey!! (Fishing The Swamps)

In this video I took an hour drive into New Jersey just across from the Delaware River in hopes of catching my first Northern Snakehead and my first Eyeball Bowfin. After trying on a topwater frog upon arriving to my first spot it did not take me long to have my first Snakehead on!!! The Bowfin would prove to be more of a challenge as the Snapping Turtles seemed to be more active than Bowfin at this point in the year.... Be sure to tune into the video for all the action!!

I used to fish that first spot, the cops kick you out now. Caught tons of snakehead and bowfin there. You can use shrimp for bowfin, last couple times I was there caught snakeheads and bowfin on swimjigs. I miss that spot.😢

That’s sad to hear. I caught my lifer Snakehead on my first cast there and had thought about returning next spring to try for more, but I’d rather not deal with any Law Enforcement when I don’t need too. I’ve never heard of Shrimp being used for Bowfin! That’s pretty cool

Dont listen to the ppl saying you are spot burning. Only ppl who have been there or are familiar with the spots you showed will pick up ok where you are. (Like me lol both are good spots and thats definitely a nice spot for bowfin watch out for the turtles i saw them everywhere last time i went there lol) but anyways keep up the video and you arent spot burning unless your saying exactly where you are. Keep catching fish

@TheVilleOutdoors
@TheVilleOutdoors 23 дня назад
I have heard that they are good eating! Despite what I said about “disposing” of the snakehead in the video. I released this fish back to the water after quick photographs. I typically don’t eat fish that I catch unless I know it will not survive upon release

Recommend that you trim the frog's legs, so that they'll strike closer to the body of the lure for better hook up ratio.
@TheVilleOutdoors
@TheVilleOutdoors Год назад
Thanks for the advice. I do that with most of my frogs but have a solid hook up ratio using the frog in the video the way it is. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it hahah

Due to spot burning, I will not give the precise location of this spot. What I will say is that both Norrhern Snakehead and Eyetail Bowfin exist in marshes that stem from the Delaware River. A little work on Google maps and you should be able to find plenty of public access points that will give you a good shot at both species

@@TheVilleOutdoors 👍🏼summer is a good time over here on the beach with fluke or rays big and small. Spring and fall is Striped Bass and Bluefish is my favorite on any of the local beaches. Most of my friends are freshwater fishermen in the Manalapan/ freehold area we’ll hit the res and big ponds or lakes around there like Assumpink . Not sure were any bowfins and snakeheads are near us but they are fun to catch. I caught a 11.5 had pounder in a canal in Florida . Had my Berkeley digital scale with me. Tight lines be safe.

Despite what I said in the video I did release this Snakehead. I’m a catch and release angler by heart and when targeting this species I was torn between what side of the argument to be on. I figured it would be better to say the fish was disposed of, rather than released. But this fish was indeed released

This spot sees alot of pressure as it is try not filming the road next time please. That is privately owned i already cleaned that spot up once due to people trashing it its exrtemly easy to get spots shut down by doing things like this. Thank you.
@TheVilleOutdoors
@TheVilleOutdoors Год назад
I appreciate your concern and I understand the issue of spot burning and keeping the environment clean, but as I mentioned in a previous comment, I do not mention the name of the road or the nearest town in the video. The small handful of fishermen that see this video and are familiar enough with the area to pick out the exact location which is only featured in the first 5 minutes of the video probably already know the spot. Once again I appreciate the concern as I understand the issue but my channel is not near big enough to actually make an impact like that.
