@@medranothelion Floor's voice is better known for being aggressive and powerful, I think she could sing this but, I doubt she can achieve this feeling of purity, naivety and tenderness that Tarja does.
What a gentle song & the powerful lyrics & touching melody written by Tuomas are magnificent! Aw, this song is like a lullaby before going to sleep. Tarja enchants with her velvet beautiful voice!
This song is much better live than in the studio recording. Tarja's voice just seems pretty strained in that one, but here it flows perfectly. Btw. it wasn't until now I realized how big her mouth actually is. I mean look from approx. 1:50 to 1:53.
Yeah, this song came of the US and Platinum edition bonus track off of "Once" album. It's not necessarily a cover seeing how she originally sang the song anyway, lol.
@domiukas1 I'm sorry to say this to you, but Tarja have already said that she would never Team-up with Nightwish again, and also I do not think they would want to cooperate with her. They really did it big by the way they ended the things, make up all those rumors and said those lies about her and her husband... It'd be scamming if they were forcing people to pay for visiting their sote or something. Asking for a donation isn't scamming, it only tells people that they could use some money, but if they don't want to give them any money that's fine. At least that's how I see it, you may have a different point of view on that...
Altough Tarja was very ill that she even had to be taken to the hospital that day, she did an excelent job that night with smile on her face, it was unforgettable!
Wish I had been there. I did notice she was sharp on a few notes and that is so unlike her, her being sick explains that. Otherwise she sounds amazing, though she definitely has a lighter quality to her voice now than she used to it. I love it just as much.

To the ones that think Tarja is only an operatic singer, pay attention to this song, specially the studio version, moreover, she dances because she wants to and the musicians are among the most professional, gifted and even nicer artists i have ever met. Anyway, this is one of their most underappreciated gems. Gorgeous lyrics and love the guitar touch here.
Yeah, quite clear clear angel reference. I am rather amazed she sings this. But, vocalists and poets need to be able to make themselves vulnerable and present rather personal stuff. That's nature of art.
Oh, I'm surprised Tarja sang this after Nightwish. It's a bit personal with the wings reference - but then, art often is. Very nice she did, she sings it more beautiful than ever.
Because like many of his other songs, it’s a pretty obvious love letter to Tarja. It’s awkward that she sang his lyrics for 9 years while knowing what the songs were about. Creepy “nice” guy, Tuomas.

Another reason may be in the lyrics. This is yet another song where lyrics refers to Tarja's angel-pseudonym with: "Love is right here, under my wings." Could be too personal.

(except for that Anette episode) Right now Nightwish is once again amazing with Floor. While the fact they parted ways makes me sad in a way, at the same time I like it because I get to enjoy twice as much awesome music :D

There's a simple explanation for that: when Toumas wrote songs for the old Nightwish he took into account what Tarja could sing and what she couldn't sing. Same thing applies to Annette, he does it the same way. That Annette can't sing the old songs like Tarja could is nobodys fault, it's just because the songs weren't written for her voice. I bet Tarja wouldn't be able to sing songs like Scaretale quite like Annette can...
Great song. I don't understand why they didn't properly include it in an album - except as a Once bonustrack on some editions (but not others). Finally some interesting moves in the vocal lines.

Read Marcelo's answer and learn that there is at least two sides to each story. However, how does her choices affect you? If you don't like it, just don't follow it. Besides, funny you mention Tuomas saying she wanted money. But she wasn't the one selling even wine from her album... Or kicking band members when they get sick...
I also have slight correction, although she did get fired.... she had made plans with the band to leave the year after in 2006, she had also agreed to not release a solo album till after nightwish released there next new one.... I guess all that went out the window when they fired her. ALTHOUGH she still kept her end of the deal and released "My Winter Storm AFTER "Dark Passion Play" was released. I LOVE that she beat them to the punch and the next release though!!!

Every time I want to listen to a Tarja song or a Nightwish song, there is always some dumbass bashing on the other. If you don't have enough decency to let the musicians write and perform their music so others can enjoy it, get a life. Tarja is an amazing singer in her operatic style. She is also a very good song writer. Tuomas is also a very good songwriter and Annette can sing the stuff he writes quite amazingly in my opionion. If you don't like a song, just click another one on the side bar.
You are completely right, all the old songs were made for a singer with an operatic voice. ike I said, Toumas took Tarja's voice into account when writing his songs, which of course leads to songs that are only suited for operactic singers. I'm assuming your second sentence refers to Annette. I don't really care what band she used to sing in and I do agree that her voice is more that of a pop-singer, but as long as Toumas writes the songs even the voice of a pop-singer can sound good in metal ;)
@review1011 You´re absolutely right. Although I really love most of her own songs, I personally appreciate when she sometimes sings one of the NW songs because they are simply beautiful and she is able to sing them perfectly. It´s just so sad and annoying that always ugly agitations against her from some negative people come up. :( Peeps, if you don´t like her to sing this, just don´t listen/look at it! But many still love it... :)
Besides...music is not supposed to be war...especially not symphonic/opera metal! So just let us keep the beautiful memories of the era Holopainen, Nevalainen, Vuorinen, Hietal/(Vänskä), Turunen and enjoy the new ones on BOTH sides. Because it is simply a great gift that they gave and give their music
