I'm at level 26 (hurray daily missions for fast XP) but fell behind on trader rep/mission unlocks so I am pushing to get a reliable ammo supply for the P90 so I can start running it, loved it last wipe. Need that Peacekeeper lvl 2 which I am very close to. Otherwise AP-20 so I can use it in budget runs and missions with the shotgun.
im at level 19 there's really not much i can use atm, i had been using simple mp5 with pst gzh and AP.336, sometimes M80 as well. I dont like missions, in the past all I do was get to level 10 and buy ammo and other things from fle then start killing players to get loots. this wipe totally changed the way i uesd to play
Vector unloads so quickly it can be a disadvantage. Imagine if it had infinity rpm - yes you'd one tap people, but you'd only get one go at it. It turns into something like the mk18. Interesting thought experiment - but the low fire rate makes the ump more controllable too, especially horizontal, plus its mega cheap in comparison
7.62 M62 is only available from Peacekeeper Level 3 after doing Spa Tour Part 6 5.45 BT is only available from Prapor Level 3 after finishing Punisher Part 4 Not trying to give you a hard time or be overly pedantic (too late), just that I'm level 27 and slowly moving through quests, so neither of these are available to me at this moment.
5.45 BT is available from Prapor level 2. 2 x BT ammo box 30 (4 x tushenkas/~40 000 rubles) and 2 x BT 30 ammo box (2 x Dry fuel/~56 000 rubles). Or just buy on flea
This is my 3rd wipe hitting over lvl 30, and nothing has been more reliable to me than .366 AP rounds and flachette. Lvl 5/6 armor chads don’t stand a chance, and it’s always a significant return on money.
Ran a ton of factory trying to get my vitality skill up for the hideout upgrades with Gigabeef's shotgun build using flachette and was shocked how well it worked. Assuming I could aim well (which I usually don't) and the enemy wasn't across the map or in the rafters it would smash them.
@@SikConVicTioN 5.45 BT/BS is in the rotation for me as well. But honestly, I’ve just not liked full automatics this wipe. I firmly believe semi autos with heavy hitting rounds are winning this wipe
Ty for the video i just started the game and i was overwhelmed with all that variety, this game is the "dark souls" of shooter's having the right gear is essential 😎
I think BSG tweaked the global limits a little bit as I have been able to buy m855a1 from skier right before trader rest multiple times. Also noticed this for other bargain deals like the Raven barter for Sig SRD suppressor. This is a good change in my opinion as trader limit alone is sufficient to limit circulation of such items and players dont have to camp traders just to buy that limited quantity.
If you're a noob like me (just reached Prappor, Therapist, Mechanic, and Ragman LL2, low 20 level), one good way to look for 7.62x39 BP is to kill scavs at this point of the wipe. Scavs with Vepr KM at the moment often spawns with BP ammo on them, and you can take that KM back to convert into a brand new AKM as a bonus
One thing I think would be a good video to make for people is a build I used until I hit lv15. For those new players, they can take a VPO 209 from Jaeger, get the suppressor and bastion from skier, and buy EKO ammo for what is essentially the only easily accessible suppressed weapon at Lv1. EKO got buffed to be basically a higher damage 7.62 PS, so it came in handy. You can even buy the ak-100 handguard from prapor and toss a grip and laser on it. Worth considering.
@@Gigabeef I couldn't remember if you brought up the EKO ammo or the LV1 trader build for the newbies though. I just remember the focus on AP-M as the god tier round is.

My god thank you for this video gigabeef! It’s my 4th wipe but I’ve only gotten as high as lvl 25 before this wipe, and this wipe I’m trying to make a run for kappa and have been wondering when you start unlocking good ammo types!
Going to be rocking my 7.62x39 PS ammo for the entire wipe. Thank you BSG for taking a round with poor real world performance and making it top tier. Realistically using 7.62x39 for most of the early game because the guns are cheap and mods are available with lvl 1 or 2 traders. The UMP is the next gun to use when doing maps where I will be in doors more and then from there it really comes down to what I end up getting a hold of and what guns and ammo still work and feel good if they make more changes. 762x39 is just too strong, you can grab a full auto rifle or go for some mid range snipes with an op sks and a scope it not only does great damage wise but it has a wide variety of guns available for different playstyles too. With the changes to armour availability the biggest issue is getting loadouts that don't suck, you have no options at lvl 1 besides a class 2 armour and you may as well not wear anything and save the 27k. Finding a nice progression path for the other gear is going to be interesting.
This wipe will be hell for players who join later on. Gear matter so much in EFT, with ammo and armor being a nessecity to compete at the later stages of the wipe. Imagine not having access to decent armor or ammo what so ever until level 20-25 at the earliest. This wipe has been good, but the 'new player', or 'late wipe joiner' experience really needs to be looked at further.
Mid-wipe enjoyer here. Started playing about a week and a half ago, and I haven't had very many issues with this. Most of the level 1 ammo sucks, but there are some real gems in there, like the .45 acp Mach FMJ from PK, or the level 1 workbench magnum buckshot craft pre-flea, which I just unlocked today. Killing raiders as PMC or Scav also gets me more mid-high tier ammo than I can currently use for a variety of weapons. I'm new, so I have a low SR and often die in fights, not because all my rounds bounce off, but because of poor accuracy or I just get caught in a bad place from my lack of game knowledge. Even with a 36% SR, I'm still progressing through my quests, and have plenty of cash flow thanks to scav runs. Had around 5-7m worth of assets before I hit flea, and even more now. If anything this wipe limiting high class armor on the flea has made it 10x easier for me to compete with the people who've been playing since day one. Even against a level 40+ PMC I can win fights (and I have won a couple) since they're not all running altyn+slick with one tap ammo. Now that I'm level 15, I've unlocked some good mid tier ammo from level 2 traders, and can buy attachments to make a decent gun off the flea/traders. I'm loving the wipe, and don't feel like I'm running against the clock at all here.
2:41 Well, no surprise it's underrated: BSG nerfed it into oblivion! It should have just about enough penetration to go through class 4 at shorter distances. 4:17 This is outright crazy, since .45 ACP is a pistol round and should in no way be compatible with a full-power rifle round. 7:25 Which is also overbuffed. And the recoil increase was the most stupid way to balance it.
45 acp works on multiple platforms to say it’s just a pistol round is questionable. I’d say they need to change the effective distance if anything, m80 should be more effective at range and 45 acp close quarters. But like In real life 45 and 9mm are becoming better day by day with both high pen and damage to flesh. Just cuz they have the same pen and damage doesn’t mean that it’s just as effective at distance and that may change those stats depending on how far the target is
@@JustJulianMusic By any classification .45 ACP is a pistol round, and it was designed that way to begin with. That it it used by SMGs doesn't change anything, since it's class of weapons literally designed around pistol cartridges to begin with. And there's no way any degree of improvement would bring it to the level of full-power rifle rounds. That's just blind and mindless 'user data'-centric balancing approach of BSG's undermining their claims of realism for the millionth time.
@@F1ghteR41 your correct that it isn't the same, but at 20m and in the 45 actually has an advantage due to not having an over penetration issue which hinders 308 ability to do damage greatly. If BSG turned to a truly realistic state armor or no armor time to kill would be a single shot in 95% of cases.

I think you missed L191 for P90: in my opinion it is one of the best budget ammo in 50 Mags. I used to run this ammo in the last wipes aswell and the only problem were chads with lvl6 armor or quality lvl5 armor with more than 70 Durability. With flea changes this ammo is one of the strongest. Its really cheap, has 33 Pen, does more Damage than SS190/SB193, decent armor damage and the fastest bullet of all 5.7x28. P90 with an extendet barrel and L191 is the best SMG to one tap ppl from 100 meters away, if they have

As a beginner to fps gaming, and beginner to Tarkov,Once I started to learn and understand about the game I always wonder why there are tons of vids about weapons, but not as much when it comes to ammo, yet everyone says it's the ammo that counts. When it comes to picking a weapon, shouldn't it be decided on the best ammo you have?
Yep I usually start with ammo first when deciding. It's a combo of both though ofc because firerate and recoil + damage and pen overall determines the viability of the whole gun
The videos are most likely about meta builds, so people are assuming that you’re using the top tier ammunition for these builds. If you’re not having good ammunition don’t waste your money on expensive builds.
just noting that he did miss mechanic 4 but there isn't much to talk about, he has 9mm RIP which can be terrifying for leg meta .338 LM TAC-X for leg meta on the MK-18 but its the MK-18, there is way better and cheaper options. Edit: it is .45 RIP for sale not 9mm RIP, my mistake
@Gigabeef You should do not an ammo level unlock but the ammo quest unlock instead. Since levels just happen and quests arent that clear to get to and get through.
They're very similar in my experience, but m62 is technically better. If you have the extra cash, always bring at least a little bit of the best ammo you can!
9x18 sp-7 and 9x39 sp-5/sp-6 are pretty big milestones. VSS/Val ammo is king among assault rifles, cheap and early accessible. Sp-7 makes kedr/klin some of the best legmeta weapons.
@@nednav8585 It is basically an SMG now with how it performs. I've still seen it clean up in CQC locations such as dorms if you have the mags to keep it fed. It is expensive to run though.
I know this is an old video, but in this patch if I find good ammo and load it while in raid the game unloads and discards the ammo in my mags once I extract from the raid. Like wtf, I figured my mag just empty the first time it happened.
I have an ammo related question: In the video fragmentation chance was mentioned, and I've been curious what a 100% fragmentation chance actually means (if anything)? I notice this stat a lot on flesh rounds, but surely it does not actually mean that each bullet is guaranteed to fragment?
Isaac is correct! Lower than about 20 pen rounds don't fragment at all. Not even sure if it's a bug at this stage, ammo is kinda balanced around this fact
I hate SMG meta. I hope they review the recoil soon because writing off AR's so badly really reduces the variety of guns that are viable. I was a big gun of the lightly modded budget 5.45 and 7.62 AK's.

M80 is decent this patch, should do you fine in anything semi auto. M62 isn't enough of an upgrade normally to make it worth buying over m80 unless you're using meta guns
What about the 7.62 US round? Is it worth it at all early game compared to the standard PS round? The recoil buff of US is interesting to me and I’m curious how it holds up against armors.
Velocity is atrocious on it. Really only usable at really short range. Like fighting in building. You have to lead extremely far and hold insanely high at range. If you're fighting on factory, or in the dorms, or in the resort hallways, it's fine. But anywhere open and medium to long range, and you'll really be hurting.
Agree with what the other commentor said on the at range use. It can be usable, but even if you hit the head shots at range most likey they will fail to penetrate any of the typical helmets. The recoil buff is notable at close ranges, and can turn a decked out AK into a laser beam. Unfortunately for the price you've paid to get there - you're better off using BP and getting the job done rather than hoping to land 5-6 chest shots with US or bouncing 1 or 2 off of a nice helmet.
to be honest... my friend usually 1 shots to the thorax... or what not with PS sniper ammo from the svd. and when i was using the SVD... i do not 1 shot... and this has happen multiple times. i dont understand.
The ammo progression is actually gameplay regression. Any ammo that pens more than like L3 armor should be rare FIR only. Maybe some barters for boxes from higher rep and quests but only if the barters we're made to be dynamic and changed every time they were used.
That would be so unfun. Time to kill would be absurdly high for anybody wearing class 5-6 armor. It would basically make only leg-meta flesh rounds a viable strategy for later in the wipe. Imagine trying to reliably pierce ULACHs and MMAC rigs on PMCs or Raiders with PS ammo, what a nightmare Tarkov would be lol.
@@azeon562 It would be 100% better than what exists right now. Especially if they got rid of the stupid fucking collateral damage as well. The armor would actually be useful. High end armor would make you more of a tank, which would be 100% more fun than it is now where you die in 2 shots. People wouldn't be absurdly hard to kill, you would just have to think before every engagement. You'd have to PID targets and compare the risk to your gear and the amount/type of ammo that you have.
@@Psychobob There's a difference between being tanky, and being a bullet sponge. Scarce mid-high tier ammo would be the latter. I've seen enough Tarkov clips of players with bad ammo mag dumping into an altyn for me to even consider this. Having the best armor should up survivability, not turn you into a mobile fortress. Due to high-end ammo shortages you're not getting 1-tapped in high end gear nearly as much anymore, unless you take a high pen round to the head. Wearing class 4-6 armor right now feels okay. It protects you against the majority of players using low-mid tier ammo, and not the occasional PMC or Raiders with the best ammo. I think all they need to do is slightly lower the pen on some mid-tier rounds, and armor would be in a solid spot. I've noticed that players complaining about ttk in Tarkov mention being constantly 1-2 shot, but I'd bet they've survived on a red torso/head way more than that. It's easy to forget all the times you've healed up after a fight, where your class 4-6 armor likely saved your life.

You're forgetting that Tarkov isn't a PvP focused game. It's a survival shooter with PvP elements. Players aren't supposed to be seeking out PvP every time they see a person or hear shots.. They're supposed to be surviving. You are 100% getting 1-tapped in high end gear. It's so bad in-fact that running no armor is actually more of an advantage than running armor. You're more mobile and take less damage because you can't be killed by a fragmented round. Armor doesn't protect against shit except scavs and the occasional player with shit ammo. Even then you still die to arm meta if they aren't protected. They need to make High Pen/AP ammo extremely rare. I'm talking a few people per raid are able to have a couple of rounds on top of their mags. Also, when the reworked armor system is in, these changes are likely going to happen because all ammo will be viable regardless of armor class. I just hope that when the armor rework is in the get rid of collateral damage or the game is going to take a big dive.
@@Psychobob And what's to stop the heavy-armor player from engaging you even if you choose not to fight? Roll over and shrug because they had access to better gear than you? Should every lobby be at the mercy of those 1-2 players who have BiS armor on? Currently those in heavy armor DO have to calculate risk vs reward when seeking out PvP, since they know even a mid tier player with decent ammo stands a chance of winning the fight. Tarkov is a PvP game, the "tarkov is a survival game" argument hasn't been valid since launch. The maps are far too small to make PvP an optional mechanic, and before the introduction of voip it was always KoS. Nowadays you have the option to talk things out, which you only do if you're willing to lose the gear you have if you're betrayed. Currently high tier armor DOES increase your survivability, maybe not as much as it should if everybody is running BiS ammo, but that just needs a numbers tweak and we're talking about the minority of players here. Doesn't need a complete re-design of ammo distribution.
you miss a very good deal wich is ASH-12 with PS12B 102 dmg 46 pen 57%armor dmg its cheep . and you can buy 300 in one time. wich is mean you never gone shortage this thing. and ash-12 only need 2 vodka to trade. this is a seriously underestimated gun and ammo in EFT。 i been use it lot and i been 1 tap many PMC wear5class armor .

My thoughts exactly, m856a1, 366apm and flecette ammo is technically available at level 20 after mechanic 2 and you can upgrade your workbench to lvl2 and at level 30 workbench 3 unlocks ap 20, BP gzh craft, igolnik, and m995 craft the later of which is arguably better than m885a1 because it has higher pen and no recoil modifier at the cost of flesh dmg
I have quit tarkov because i am forced to grind my life away to get better ammo. No thanks. I play casual and im not shooting crap ammo at hardcore players with too gear/ammo. Good job tarkov you done it! Made your game unplayable for casuals 👏
Quite, except M80 is on PK3 so that takes out the larger calibers until later in the progression now, and the buffs to ammo have made 5.56 and 5.45 more important in the midgame imo

@@Gigabeef didn't realize the quest progression. Didn't do friend from the west as I've been mainly passive trying to level up with quests. So I'm lvl 24 and don't have the trader rep for PK🤦♂️
The pen stat in this game makes no sense. There is not a single IRL .45 ACP load that can defeat *any* armor that even ball 5.56 won't. .45 ACP is a horrible round for armor penetration.
I love .45 acp but yes you’re totally right. Also it would not take much effort at all to integrate subsonic/supersonic sound mechanics for suppressed arms, otherwise .45 is just ‘muh, bigger bullet’ than 9mm and 9x39mm or .300 blackout have no purpose beyond being interesting rounds.
@@Gigabeef I get what you mean, but even later last wipes when 5-6 armor were the norm, I often preferred 55a1 over 995 since 995 does so little flesh and both take almost dozen rounds to kill lv6 thorax but the extra flesh from 55a1 could be shorter time to kill. Then again 5.56 guns were laser beams and now theyre perky even at
M62 is near pointless. 3x the price of m80 for just 3 more pen. Both go through class 4 and both get stopped by class 5+. Yeah it has the -5 recoil and barely makes a difference. People see streamers using it and just hop on the bandwagon.
first wipe playing and level 30 now and have all traders at level 1 or 2 i think i will quit the game do i seriously have to do these boring ass quests just to play the game with better ammo what is this bullshit?
There are some good ammo choices at L2 traders such as M80, but yes you have to do some of the quests at least to progress. It gets easier after the first wipe
