I love all the armour changes in combination with moving around what kinds of rounds are available to people on traders and on the Flea. Plus the Recoil changes, This has been my favourite wipe since I started playing in 2021. Maybe I only feel that way because I've learned the game over the last few years and now that its approaching a "playable" state I can take full advantage of my knowledge. I bet some of the new guys still feel like it's an absolute meatgrinder for masochists.

The 6b23-2 (mountain flora) can actually take Western and eastern plates

Just to note. Thor armor has tier 3 aramid inserts instead of tier 2. For a cheap armor, its really good at stoping tier 4 penetrators that hit your plate and get soaked up by the inserts. Amazing early-mid wipe armor.

Funny how airwingmarine and gigabeef (the two dudes doing the most for in game armor research) are complete opposites. Ones a burly marine from the US, and the other is a cute little twink from the Netherlands.

Blunt damage is not determined by whether the armor is "soft" or "hard"; it's whether or not it has two layers of armor (i.e. plate + soft armor) covering the same area. If you have a plate + soft armor, and the plate stops the round, you receive no blunt damage. If the plate is penetrated but the soft armor behind it is not, you receive blunt damage. If you have a rig that is just a plate with no soft armor, you always take blunt damage. The behavior of this feature likely means it is a bug, and should be treated as such until BSG give an official confirmation. The visual coverage of the armor does not matter. Armor does not have a separate hitbox from the player-model, the player-model was just given more hitboxes. Soft/integrated armor covers hitboxes like "thorax", "stomach", "upper & lower back", "left & right side", "throat", "neck", "groin", and "buttocks". These areas are covered the same across all armors with those hitboxes labeled in their coverage area. Note: there is not a single armor in game that protects the armpits; these hitboxes will always be unarmored. The only differences in coverage are between eastern(Granit) and western(SAPI) style plates. Again, these do not have their own physical hitboxes, but have a defined hitbox shape on the player-model. You can see which form-factor a plate covers as some display "FR. Plate" or "BCK. Plate" and some display "F. Plate" or "B. Plate"; I cannot recall which is for SAPI and which is for Granit. There are only these two form-factor hitboxes, despite there being a handful of unique plates like those found in the Korund and 6B23. This also means that certain rigs with poor models are not affected by their visuals. For example, the AVS rig hangs extremely low on the player model, leaving a large portion of the area around the collar-bone exposed visually. This does not affect its actual protection, and will protect the same areas as more accurately modeled rigs.

Since the armour update, most armour is easier to get with plates veing harder to get. Most PMCS look like PMCS now because you can run armoured rigs for budget. Its making the game look better too, less ww2 helmets, rigs and civ bags everywhere. Its crazy

Honestly I've been having a great experience just cramming a level 4 into the front of anything and it works great. On the note of the Tagilla rig, people pay absurd amounts of money for them on flea without any plates :|

If I am not mistaken, the size on the hole on the sides doesn't matter. If the armour says it covers the "left side" and "right side" than that whole hitbox has armour. They haven't coded exact hitboxes into each armour just added more hitboxes on the PMC.

6B13 is the most OP sleeper armor this patch. You get this from scavs frequently, for free, it is class 4, it repairs insanely well (that's the most OP thing in my opinion), cheaply, and it is common, heavy and bulky, so noone takes it from your body. Also you can easily buy class 5 plates for it, and they are heavy and bulky as well, so even taking them out of your armor is usually a nuisance for person looting you. Most of my insured 6B13s return to me, even with class 5 plates, and I have to spend 10k max to repair it, and I'm ready to go. And it covers you pretty good, has neck and groin protection, it is ultimate versus scavs, and ok versus players. In meta where you usually get sprayed into face anyway there is no point in taking more expensive and rare armor, especially spending like 200k on them. Point about side holes - let's be serious, almost all armor (even those with side pockets and class 6 plates there) does a lousy job at protecting you from the side, unless it is some Zabralo or Thor, which also cover your arms

Found a level 4 UHWPE plate early on, and threw it into a kirasa because it fit and I might as well. Gotten it back in insurance 2-3 times so far because nobody bothers picking it up.

Osprey has been my favorite rig for a while now, it’s just a really solid choice for both protection and storage space

Top left shoulder is exactly where an artery sits, on top of that a shot to anywhere around the shoulder region has a good chance to penetrate straight to the shoulder blade and shatter it. Pretty dangerous if you ask me

9:19 -- The area you're pointing out here is where the subclavian arteries and veins hang out. They are very big blood vessels and damage to them is not QUITE as catastrophic as damage to the center of the chest, but not by much. It's still extraordinarily bad news.

FYI where you pointed when discussing eastern plates...would be a chest shot. That's still part of the chest cavity and you're touching the upper left part of your lung. Those plates make sense in an IRL perspective becasue that cut out allows greater mobility of the shoulders forward and feel much better to where than standard square plates which in turn have to be somewhat smaller to compensate. I'm g lad to see you ranked the press armor so high. At tier 3 prapor and peacekeeper you can load it with T4 and T5 front/side plates, it has decent protection, and lots of players wont take the time to actually look at the plates to see if it isnt a throwaway armor. Further, that armor is the cheapest you can get as well which is a major issue since the majority of the armors you mentioned are 300k+ on the flea with NO armor plates.

I like the press armor more than the blue armor you put in S. With the press you can put t5 protection on the sides and you get t4 plates from traders pretty early

Plates are very good but limiting. The 6B5-15 is lvl 4 no plates. This means shoulders are also Class 4 protection. In something that uses plates that protection softarmor on the shoulders would only be class 3 even if you put class 6 plates int. So the 6B5-15 is limited to class 4 protections but at least protects everything it coveres with class 4

The other downside with the killa armor that I think Airwing made mention of is that the class 5 back plates that come in that armor are loot only. So if the back plate gets worn out, the only way to replace it with something equal or better is to find one in a crate or go kill killa again.

Tiger rig is a really nice plate source you get tier 6 plates and it sells back to ragman for 70k without the plates in

woaw I didn't know they changed how armor works so much... I was running with the slick for a few raid on spt(I don't and won't play live anymore) so I guess I need to research this a little lol

Generally how i feel for the most part except a few you can get the red paca for 30-35k and take it to factory. same with untar, horrible for being stealthy but great protection to price ratio 6B5-15 ( the lv4 green camo armor rig ) and to a lesser extent but still decent the 6B3TM-01M ( lv4 puke yellow rig ) the 6B5-15 is fully lv 4 front and its not a plate and class 4 handles blunt damage pretty well. with far greater durability then last wipe, survived a crazy amount of shots in a few raids so i took it into co op raid and had a friend mag dump me with pst 9mm ( 20 pen ) 30 rounder ( he spread out the shots a bit on the armor ) and i survived lamo, 30 hits and lived And id rate the 6b2 higher ( the lv 2 20k body armor ) its only front and back but its only 20k, its the minimum armor you should wear even for rat runs. people love to say armors worthless till a nub or scav with .336 fmj one taps them dead center of chest because they didn't wear any armor And lastly armors like troopers, so ive killed quite a few people with troopers while memeing on Ground zero. the suppressed kedr/ppsh with most ammo is a 2 tap when you torso hit where the armor doesn't cover and its not unrealistic to quick drop someone with a 900-1000 rpm 30-35 rounders on the trooper, when i make it back to hideout i just rip out the plates and sell the rig for 30?k

The press you can get essentially for free at ll1 + lav1. 3 halfmask = paca Paca = yellow cloth 3 scav vests = grey cloth 1 pomm juice = 6b13 plate Those 2 cloths + a plate = press You can absolutely pump these things out by just picking up slickers (barter for scav), half masks, and juice. Seriously you can get the mats for like 4 of these in one scav run.

I feel a few of the armours you didn't consider the same way as I would. Some of them I like for reasons of they are cheep and you can stick good plates in.... the press vest,6b23 and a few other body armours are amazing not because of protection but because you can comfortably stick level 5 armour in them and get it back if you die allowing for a competent armour against lower caliber rounds for those closer quarters maps

I have to disagree with one thing. I would put the rat rig in c. It's only ~85k and you get class 4 protection on your whole front, both the chest and stomach, which is the only amour in the game that does that, some other amours might give you some stomach protection but not class 4 on the whole thing. And it repairs pretty well to boot.

Hey new player here ty for the cool video on armor very helpful ! Also I found the Gen 4 hmk high mobility armor in a ground cache today I had no clue it was the best ! Also found some comtac 4’s in a ground cache so very hype

One time i was doing factory run for prapor's quest, and i was in kirasa (that blue non-press armor) with 4 class, and it stopped a two mosin rats with its plates, when i just didnt got any damage i just spareyed them with pp-19 (My reaction was ambatukam basicly, all of the time i was destroyed with good ammo, and i tanked good rounds for first time in 4 wipes, lul)

Can't wait for the new gun tier list and for it to be completely different from the old one.

9:30 what you don't know is that there are vital blood vessels going through your armpit and getting shot in there is often as fatal as getting shot in the lung.

9:48 you have several very large important veins and arteries that go through that part of your chest as well as the apex of the lungs a little lower

the press armor is simply the best armor that you can craft/buy before lvl 15. it's also quite light for the protection, especially its standard tier 3 back plate is incredibly light. i prefer a press armor with 6b13 front plate (tier 4) over the 6b13.

FORT Redut-T5 might actually be really good. more coverage then the zabralo, slightly less durability, and less weight

press vest is best vest, throwing lvl 5 plate in the front and lvl 4 in the back is actually insanely good, also korund has its own sideplates so they are super cheap because they only go in the korund (i think)

I know this might sound odd.. but keep in mind I'm new to Tarkov have only been playing it for about a month or so. Would love to see a video like this for bags/backpacks from you seeing as you like to use mobility, been trying to work out what bag I should run, but it's hard to find something light that also offers reasonably good storage space... been using the mbss recently but I'm not too sure. Also been toying around with no bag and just an absolutely enormous tactical rig haha. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I’ve heard gigabeef say the visual representation of armor coverage actually dosent matter. like something dosent cover some of your armpit because that’s how the armor looks. If it covers a hitbox it covers it it dosent matter the physical / visual coverage. Anyone know if this is true

Class five plates in a kirasa have been fantastic, and no one usually takes the kirasa because they think its class 3.

I'm pretty sure that soft armors all cover the same hitbox, so all neckguards cover the same thing etc. The plates tho, all have a unique shape

I kind of feel like the argument you use for "plate sources" could surely be used for your "B" tier (light and fast). Even more so due to the plates they come with. The idea for them is that you're not expecting close contact so you just cover the most likely hit area for long range, your chest. In addition, as far as I know any armor that doesn't take plates allows blunt damage pass through. So that would apply to the UNTAR and the two russian integrated rigs. They run on the old armor system essentially, sans the gaps and hitboxes. Any plate that blocks a round will just tank it completely and you will not get any blunt damage. Just some blur and a little aimpunch.

The Goons Crye Precision rig has front back and side plate slots, plus integrated front back and sides- not too bad.

Flora 4 armor should go to B, or not in C however. Better protection than the others, plus more protected areas. Plus, it's often found on scavs.

The barg is so good especially on reserve and lighthouse.

Honestly i use kirasa on almost every single one of my setups. It's just so good for 40.000₽ and i usually have some armored rig or a worse plate carrier laying around from my scav runs that i can just butcher to beef up my kirasa

personally id take the defender 2 with GAC 3s15m over the korund since it has level 3 aramid and the sideplates arent an issue for me personally i just combat that with good positioning. and over the gen4 hmk cus its much lighter and holding W is priority for me but great list.

Putting the Rat Rig in D tier is almost criminal. Even if back is level two, face your back towards walls more often and check your corners, for a cheap level 4 rig its definitely not THAT bad.

I often forget just how many armors are actually in this game. I only use about 4-5 different ones and have forgotten about most of the others.
