Tarot FY680 Upgrade - Foxtech Retracts - eRC

This is first upgrade for Tarot FY680 Hexacopter (Build series: • Tarot FY680 Build - el... )
This time we will install retractable landing gear on Tarot FY680. Why? Two reasons. First, it looks insanely cool when you lift them up after take off. There something about this that makes it addictive. Second and more important, if you are planing to use a 3-axis 360 degree gimbal with second camera operator this allows you to have unobstructed 360 view. Even if you don't have second camera operator view straight down won't have those ugly landing skids in your shoot.
One of the best retractable landing gear kits on the market is Foxtech Pivot Auto Landing Gear series. It's quite pricey, but worth every penny. In this video I will show you how to install Foxtech Retracts on Tarot FY680 Hexacopter.
You need:

Hi I purchased this set and fit them on my DJI F450 Flamewheel Quad and got everything working fine using chn 8 on my tx. Not thinking there was anything wrong, I decided to make a test flight to try out the retracts in the air. Well here is the clincher,,,I took off just fine and flew around for just a few minutes and decided to hit the switch for the retracts. I was flying at about 15' and hit the switch and as soon as the gear reached full up position, the motors shut down and the copter fell to the ground. Broke one arm, snapped the GPS mast, knocked the camera gimbal off of the rubber bushings and broke one prop. Starring in disbelief wondering what the heck happened, I picked up the pieces and went back to the drawing board. Wondering what in the world had happened, I figured I would try it on the bench after I got everything repaired. Lo and behold, as soon as I hit the switch the motors shut down as soon as the retracts reached max travel no matter what direction they were heading. I checked the Battery, end stops, wiring, apm configuration, mixer settings, and anything I thought that could have caused this. My question,,,what do you think it could be.

Great update mate! nice clean and will help you with video shoots immensely! I`ll be ordering soon the original landing gear for my Tarot 650 X4 soon. Thanks for sharing and also it looks great when you put up the landing gear! lol Ed

These are awesome, but too bulky for FY680 in my opinion. I believe for 650 as well. I will do short review video on them once weather allows me to fly.

Very nice, like all of your instructions. I'd like to upgrade to retracts as well. One very minor point, and sincerely not meant to tarnish your build or video quality, but I recommend editing your text at around 3:32...should be 'assign' vs 'assing'. Thank you for sharing your talent.

Hi I purchased a set similar to these from tarot and they work the same way However, when I flip them up or down with my motors running, they will cause the motors to shut down at the end of travel up or down. I tried these while flying and my quad fell out of the sky. I'm using APM 2.6 with power module, AT10 RadioLink Tx and Rx. Does the same even when i connect it to a totally different Quad with the same setup What would cause them to shut down my motors?

Marshal Palmer Interesting. I've heard this from one other person. It's quite unbelievable to me because they don't have nothing to do with motors. Or at least shouldn't. Are you using the same BEC for powering retracts and Rx. Retracts pull max current at the end of the travel when they lock themselves up. Then overcorrect protection turns them off. If the BEC is not powerful enough it could turn off or something and cause Rx to loose power. Try powering them from different BEC. I don't know what else could cause that.
